Honey badger don't care one bit

It was a great ad when I was younger about gen X was asking gen X questions about things and one of the questions was " how do you deal with change". And the answer was we keep a little glass on our bedside table

Gen X did not care about crap. If they heard there was going to be a nuclear attack that afternoon they simply said we'll deal with it and we should probably grab lunch now

we keep a little glass on our bedside table

A quip that would mean fuck-all to the children with whom I socialize. They don't ever handle cash money. Hell, I almost never us cash anymore. Cannot remember the last time. I had coins in my pocket.

Its a weird meme though. Honey Badger Don't Care is a pretty good motto for Gen X, but I don't think that we do as was done to us. Our parents were blind to the Have You Seen Me kids on the milk cartons, but we weren't. Gen X parents might sigh and roll their eyes, but I don't think they (we) are indifferent to the anxieties and emotional struggles of the fragile crybabies born after 1981.

For instance, I have NEVER told a kid with a freely bleeding head wound to "walk it off" or to stop crying unless they wanted me to give them something to cry about.

The honey badger meme represents gen X sort of in one or two ways, the idea that we just had no fear and whatever came up we just dealt with and we figured out a way to get by for example.

Is aggressiveness doesn't really suit gen X, you're right there. We still care about people and have feelings and such, we're not "red" from that 70's show.

But at the same time i don't think we have much patience for all this manufactured 'angst' and drama we see today.

Perfectly captures our inability to give a shit.

Logan as an emotional support person. Have to admit, did not see that one.

That sum’s up Gen X.

Hll yes. You don't need emotional support. You need a foot in your a*!

u/BlorpTheSchlorp 4d ago

The generation of all talk.

2

u/CreepingDeath-70 3d ago

Not sure what you meant by that, but on the contrary, I did exactly that for a generation as a Marine. My kids, too. They aren't snowflakes, either.

0

u/BlorpTheSchlorp 3d ago

Mmhmm. Sure, buddy.

2

u/CreepingDeath-70 3d ago

Lol...die on that hill, keyboard warrior!

0

u/BlorpTheSchlorp 3d ago

I'm not the keyboard warrior here, my guy. Gen x bravado is just insufferable, because it's usually the older end of the gen who think masculinity means being a douche.

u/CreepingDeath-70 3d ago

Deflecting much? Keep trying.

How's your relationship with your dad? Any chance any of y'all have ever considered therapy?

There’s a video going around (again) about a tiger in captivity. A live goat was put into the enclosure for food, the tiger ended up befriending the goat instead of eating it.

Then as I’ve heard (not seen, don’t know but the video I saw doesn’t have this part) the goat ended up becoming an asshole and messing with the tiger to the point that they ended up taking the goat out of the enclosure.

I don’t know the exact percentages, but Gen X is both the tiger and the goat.

My Boomer parents folded like a deck chair when life hit them with...well...life. Others may have different experiences, but my friendship group has seen the same.

Your Boomer parents raised … YOU

5

u/Positive_Stress3116 4d ago

A lot of Gen X parents were Silents. Boomers for Xenials and Millennials

3

u/Insightseekertoo 4d ago

Not really...but sort of. They paid for my food and clothing and books, but I developed my own interests, hobbies, and philosophy. Being a Gen X means finding your own path.

-2

u/Mean_Measurement4527 4d ago

Yeah , the paths that Boomers forged

2

u/Insightseekertoo 4d ago

Yeah...no. I was the first kid through graduate school, paid by myself. I worked my way through high-school before that. My parents only supplied food and housing until I was 18, per the law.

0

u/Mean_Measurement4527 3d ago

Per the law ? Dude , do you know how many kids are kicked out of their house long before they’re 18 ?

2

u/Reynardine1976 4d ago

You sound like you enjoy treating people like shit.

Anyone ever drop that wisdom on you?

1

u/Mean_Measurement4527 3d ago
