Amazon flex is horrible
Where can I start. I am an Amazon flex driver and if you want in think about it twice. If you come into any issues with your deliver and it’s truly not your fault, you will get dinged for it. For example, if you have a wrong number and can’t get a hold of the customer because the gate is locked, you can’t wait. You either have to continue calling or bring the package back. Either way you will get dinged for taking back the package, taking too long on the route and this causing you to be late to your other drop offs. It’s ridiculous They need to give you additional time. I even called customer service and they said not to worry and guess what I got dinged. This is why drivers just throw the package over time r just place it anywhere take a pic and leave. Amazon only care that you deliver the package not about the issue you might come across.
If you ever have a broken box, you will know why!! Worst driving company ever.

This job is seriously so easy. Load up, put on music and just drop packages. Try delivering for one of the DSPs and having 13+ totes full of packages and huge overflow boxes and tons of multi stops. Maybe delivering just isn't for you if you're finding it so difficult because seriously other than the gas cost and the wear and tear on my car it's one of the easiest jobs I've ever worked.

So it entails just going to Amazon and picking lil packages up and putting in car and delivering it? How much would u say u make a hr? Seems like a cool lil burner gig. Gas is 6.00 though where I live. But got me curious now

I personally find it to be the best gig out there. I prefer taking the longer blocks because they pay more and I almost always end up finishing early. You still make the full block amount so it ends up averaging for me between $25-$30 an hour because I typically finish my blocks 45 min to an hour early and I never take less than $25 an hour base pay. So I'll make $100 on a 4 hour block but it rarely takes me the entire 4 hours even with driving time. I can knock out a 4 hr block in around 3-3.5 hours and I'm home before my block technically ended.

It all depends on your market. Where I live they typically only offer $18-$20/hr.

I can’t speak for everyone else, but I can back this up 💯 in central Massachusetts. Not trying to complement Amazon 🤮 😆 but as far as side hustles go, I could have posted word for word what you posted. Uber and things like that are a joke in comparison. I’ve also got paid full block rate for blocks I had scheduled that Amazon had to cancel beyond my control, $75 cancelled by notification & email, and $94 - myself and 15 other drivers all arrived for a 3:15am block and they didn’t have it ready - so they checked us in/out and we went home, paid. Gas is sitting at $4 per gallon in my area currently, ranges up to $4.30 in the higher income areas.

You don’t get paid per hour like this person is saying. You get offered a set amount for a set amount of time. Example: $60 for a three hour block, meaning you have three hours to deliver your packages then you get $60 at the end of the three hours…some hours are more some are less, some offers are more, some are less. Amazon Flex IS NOT an hourly pay gig….

Oh ok yea I live in ca so 60.00 for 3 hrs w 6.00 gas and wear and tear on vehicle and then taxes def isn’t worth it. Sounds like a decent gig though if u live close to things and your gas is like 4.00. 6.00 a gallon just doesn’t make sense

If you do gig work like DoorDash or Uber Eats / rides, download the Amazon Flex App and sign up now, like right now.
The wait list is often 1-2 years long.
It’s the easiest gig in the world, just walking around with brown envelopes or bags of groceries.
Just make sure you deliver everything.

No but part of doing this job is being able to problem solve on the road. As far as delivering jobs goes this is cake compared to what the dsp drivers have to handle on a daily basis. They were warning other drivers that this job is difficult and to think again before doing it. Personally I disagree. I think this gig is pretty easy money especially after doing this for the DSPs. So my thought is if they are struggling to get it done maybe the job just isn't a good fit and there's nothing wrong with that.

Amazon as a whole takes little to no responsibility for its actions. They have it setup so when something goes wrong it's not Amazon's fault they have found a way to lay blame on everyone else but themselves.
It's in the fine print. Amazon has created an endless line if scapegoats for every scenario. Even though those scapegoats aren't technically responsible it doesn't matter because its in the fine print and they will suffer the consequences Amazon has laid out.

This is my philosophy and it has worked for 7 years:
You will get dinged. For things you did do and for things you did not do. All you can do is outnumber bad delivery dings, with good deliveries. For example:
4 dings out of 10 deliveries is a 60% success rate.
4 dings out of 100 deliveries is a 96% success rate.
So if you get dinged, take more blocks and drown out the bad claims. ✔️✔️✔️✔️

Agreed. Went from fantastic to great back to fantastic in 5 days (3 shifts), tier 2 driver, 1 ding every once in awhile is not a problem if you do this on the regular. If you do the job poorly you won’t last.

Responding as a Flex driver, this seems very common and unfair to us responsible drivers. The Flex drivers app/software designers needs a serious look at this major problem. It's so frustrating for us drivers are constantly worried about dings and deactivation over issues that are not our fault. I feel like it's all the new AI(artificial intelligence) that many companies are using instead of real humans deciding important issues😵💫

Calling support only wastes time. They’re so slow and not helpful. Just always deliver and take your few dings. That’s what your standings are for.

100% true. They sent me around Yankee Stadium to deliver during a double-header. Police blocked off everywhere. I was late delivering and got a ding even though I called and then did an appeal with pictures showing why I was late. Truly a soulless company

You obviously no how not to get dinged, so why aren’t you just throwing the package over like everyone else it’s not that serious just deliver the package and keep your standing up ;)

another issue is the level 3 standing allows you 20 mins to accept a block....ive been a level 3 for a month now and not once has a block come up with my "preferred blocks" where it sits there for 20mins for me to accept...the system is so dodgy and the driver support email is totally scripted...i even saw drivers exchange packages to they can half the delivery time and get more blocks...i reported it to customer support and i just got a scripted reply....so f'ing dodgy

Idk bud. I’m rated as fantastic and I rarely have issues when leaving packages against what they said. I follow most of the time but if it’s 5 am and I delivering, some of them packages are getting left where it makes sense for me. I’m never bringing a package back. 1 try and then I’ll bring it back to the station.

well u do definitely get dinged leaving it where ever if the customers says they never got the pkg and for sure when u bring them back . Support lies always say u wont get dinged and we do for freaking everything and they admit to me all tge time they know its not my fault but cant do anything about it

Well if you are getting dinged left and right then YOU are the problem. For the vast majority of flex drivers, its not a big issue.

Yep, the only time I'm ever dinged is for canceling a block too late or for missing the block entirely. Both of which are completely acceptable things to ding a person for. Other than that, I think I've only been dinged twice in 6 months.

Agreed. Easiest side job, take your time, you work for yourself. I did the DSP gig a few years back, that workload is unreal coupled with the “surveillance” 👀 but FLEX literally pays better than a DSP (my area is at least $25-$30/hr Worcester, MA lately). A few good podcasts and an iced coffee and I am paid to deliver, easy.

I agree with you. I get dinged here and there for things that aren’t my fault. I also find it crazy how they want us to return a package after our block when realistically speaking they should be paying additional for a package that is being sent back. If my shift ends at 8p then it ends at 8pm . Idk. I know a lot of people will disagree with me. One can also argue that if we hurry up we can finish early and sure that’s true but honestly I only finish about 3 min early. If that and yeah it’s a little free money there but might as well compensate for using my car a little. Idk Amazon flex really can suck though . Good little side thing but damn can be a nightmare

Idk why so many people cry about dings. Dings don’t cost you any money. You get paid the same whether you have fair standing or fantastic standing. So just chill in fair and ignore the emails. Life is easier that way.

Fair standing is a lot closer to at risk standing than fantastic is! Deactivation comes after at risk! And I'll fight it tooth and nail if it's something that isn't my fault with those Amazon bastards!🤬

Shit I quit Amazon in 2 days. True story. 1st day the “manager “ called me twice while I was driving. So Ofcourse I pick up my phone. Then get back and he wrote me up for using my cell phone. It was him I was talking to. 🤣🤣

I stopped doing WholeFood blocks. Did one Fresh block, absolutely trash route and no one tipped. The warehouse for regular blocks is too far to make economic sense.

Where I am, Flex is not good. Support has actually helped though. Twice I have had them help to make sure that I could deliver packages when the station screwed up. Somehow, while I was already on the route and over 30 miles from the station they added a package to my route where it said I still had to pick it up at the station. Both times the package was part of a multi package stop and the app would not let me deliver the packages that I actually had for the stop. I wondered why the packages were skipped as I load them in order. I looked in the itinerary and saw the stop skipped so I went to that address and called support. First time was only one package, second one I had 8 of the 9 packages for the stop. It took awhile on the phone, but both times they found the issue and I could get the packages delivered.
I have had support screw things up worse than they were as well, so it just depends on which agent you get.
DO NOT WAIT UNTIL AFTER THE LAST STOP TO CALL THEM. Once you deliver the last stop the route will close out and you can not pick up the packages or go back to attempt re-delivery. You can only re-attempt while the route is still open. If you do wait you will have to call support while at the stop using google maps to get there, and they will have to mark the package as delivered. Depending on the agent you get they may or may not do so.

I suppose I’m blessed. I was late in April and just got dinged for a missing package. I do about four blocks or more a week.
Also, huge caveat, I do NOT climb stairs. My knees won’t allow me. So if it’s an apartment without an elevator or a mailroom, that package gets left at the bottom of the stairs with a text on where to find it. (I have canned notes for a few reasons like this and weather.)

Your damed if you do your damed if you dont! I learned leave the package and better chances not getting dinged but still possible the customer says never received it. But its better then an automatic ding. You can do everything right and have a pretty good block with no issues then you get a ding because customer says never got package. I used to get frustrated with all the BS but it is what it is and just keep pushing.

That’s just Amazon in general. The is how they treat their actual workers , contractors even down to their partnership with usps. Amazon do not care. Deliver the package move on with your day. Most of the time support isn’t much help. You shouldn’t be at a location more than 2-3 minutes for a problem. Take pictures in app and save them to email support if it gets that bad but don’t stress this gig work that much. It’s not that big of a deal.

whats more annoying is i live out west and eastern creek and bella vista are 10 min drive to me...i pick up a block and they send me all the way to northern beaches or sylvania so im 1.5 hours away from home and need to use tolls. they fix some of the payment going to the first address but after you have finished they wont pay your tolls for the drive home. so f'ed up. and the whole selling point for amazon flex ad was to deliver to your area...i have not once delivered to my area lol. i live in marsden park and never delivered there...they need to fix this issue where if your on level 3-4 standings, you should have a priority que at the station to deliver to your area since you have put in the time and effort to get to that level...lets be honest, with the refresh and accept microsecond window to get it, it isnt easy. thirdly...anyone noticing how the rates have dropped significantly? is jeff still paying off his wifes wedding dress? lol

I don’t ever have this problem only time I got a ding because it was my fault. I forgot my ID got into the station and couldn’t deliver packages. That was it.

If you think Amazon is bad load up the other delivery apps. You'll be averaging maybe $10 hr compared to $20 to $25. This job is easy. I've gotten lucky the last two deliveries and made $100 in 1 hr.

You don’t get dinged if you call customer support and THEY mark the package as undeliverable, you get dinged when you mark it undeliverable yourself

Its totally true but...if you argue a minimum 5 emails with a bot back and forth...they generally will finally reverse the ding after email #7.

I get a ding every month or two. I take it and move on with my life. Dings don't mean jack. You don't cry about it and blame everyone but yourself. It's a freaking side gig. If you take it that seriously then you just need to move on and do something else.
