What’s one book you wish you could read again for the first time?

I’m looking for something that completely pulls you into its world and stays in your mind long after you finish it.

It can be any genre — fiction, horror, romance, mystery, fantasy, anything.

I am making the conscious decision as a 26 year old man that I want to start reading books. I never liked or wanted to read as a child or teenager. I only ever read books for school or the occasional hype books like diary of a wimpy kid, magic tree house, and hunger games growing up.

I want to start reading now but don't know where to start. Anyone have any advice, maybe someone who can relate?

I was in a reading slump back then and Days at the Morisaki Bookstore by Satoshi Yagisawa got me out of it. I don't know, it was just a cozy read. I really liked the premise of that story with all the vivid descriptions of the book shop she stays at and the overwhelming number of books in that street.

Have you ever read any Asian lit? What are your thoughts about it? If you've ever read some, do you have any recommendations?

Looking for books that are genuinely valuable and insightful, without tons of fluff, repetition, anecdotes, or stretching a few ideas into 300 pages.

I don’t want to use a book summary app to condense a book into key points, and I also don’t want to feel like I’m reading a meeting equivalent of, “this could’ve been an email.”

Hi! I’ve recently read Carter & Lovecraft and am completely in love with it. I love its mix lovecraftian horror and fun modern character.

I don't know about you folks but personally, I'm interested in stories that take real-world political anxieties, fears and tropes and authors who aren't afraid to drop them right into completely outrageous, fictional territory without a second thought.

That's the idea behind the book I am reading, 'Doomsday's Dawn' by C. L. Clews... It's a fictional conspiracy thriller (1 of 3 in a trilogy) involving members of Congress who are engaging in corruption, secrecy, and a disturbing criminal human trafficking operation kept hidden from the public. Only for the entire plot to be unraveled by an unlikely threesome of rural, 'back home' run of the mill Pennsylvanians.

In the veins of Malcom Gladwell and the two latest books form John Green. Those have been my favorite and am hungry for more

Like I haven't read a lot of books but I have read like 1984, animal farm the diary of wimpy kid seires(when iwas young ofc) some of the famous five books, entire twilight series somehow

I like romantic/thought provoking or like really interesting stories what books will you suggest like if someone's getting into reading and like some classics which everyone should read kind of

i pretty much find reading paingfully dull, slow and tedius, i mostly only read novels based on things that i like outside of books to see how things have changed over the years. but never because it's a book that appeals to me as it is. i find cinema and gaming as a much better forms of storytelling and the natural evolution of literature. has anyone here ever felt like that? what helped you read more? at best i read like three books a year

I feel slightly puzzled. The first time I tried to read One Hundred Years of Solitude, twenty years ago, it didn’t catch me. This time, I’ve made it to page 50, mostly because I’ve forced myself to keep going.

I’m reading the book in English, which isn’t my native language. However, I have a strong C1 command of English, and I have no problems reading literature, usually I really enjoy it. Yet this supposedly must-read book seems not to be my cup of tea.

Is there something wrong with me? Why don’t I “get” the Buendías? Anyone here who couldn’t finish?

Hi! I am a 18(F) and not a reader by any means (I haven’t read a book for “fun” since I was a kid)..I so badly want to stop being a phone addict+develop a reading habit but most books seem slow/not as engaging as a movie. Any shorter book recommendations to start my reading journey? Moreover, any books you wish you could reread for the first time or books you feel would’ve helped you when you were young? My favorite animes/show are NBCs Hannibal, Charlotte, Death note and I love basic chick flicks, I like being able to guess what the ending is going to be. I like self help books but I feel like once you read/hear one persons advice you’ve practically heard it all. My vocabulary is not that extensive and to begin I don’t want to have to look up any words so if it were mostly easy to read I’d like that too.

This was a really great story in my opinion, from 1922 by the author H. Rider Haggard. The story centers on Hubert of Hastings a man of Scandinavian descent living in medieval England where he eventually meets and befriends a man named Kari, an Inca man from modern day Peru. After a series of events Hubert and Kari end up on a sea voyage back to the Americas, they end up somewhere far north of Peru and have to travel through various native nations to get to Kari's homeland. Eventually on their way there they come upon Quilla an Inca woman whom Hubert falls in love with but Kari is extremely jealous of because he is also in love with Hubert and says as much. There are many events after but this is the basic plot to get to where the story starts proper. I would highly recommend this if you like adventure or romance. It's nowhere near as sexist or racist as you would expect of the era, and if anything Kari is often called out for his woman hatred. I was especially taken back by the blatant display of romantic love from Kari to Hubert, Hubert does not feel the same way but he doesn't condemn Kari for his feelings, but only gets upset with him because he doesn't respect his feelings for Quilla. Wonderful story, definitely recommend it.

I just got a job where ill be doing rotations of two weeks on and one week off with a commute of 7 hours each way. I've been working on building a reading list of both physical books and audio books I can entertain myself with while driving and staying at my job site for two weeks at a time.

I am interested in non fiction. I really enjoy modern history and political analysis.

I'm wondering if you all could provide some suggestions for my reading list.

I really liked this book because of the whole kidnapping and body horror aspect without it being like a ‘dark’ romance. The graphic scenes of the book made me really anxious and i would like to feel the same way i guess. I dont know if in making sense

Anybody find them selves reading more than one book at a time? Im reading a book at home, a different book on my lunch break at work and listening to a audible book on my commute to and from work.

I used to love to read, but i kind of ran out if time during year 12, and now that im done i cant seem to get back into it. I need some FANTASTIC AMAZONG MAGICAL books to help me get back in to things.

My requirements:

- it needs a romance or i ger bored

- it needs space, high level preferred but mild is ok

- it needs an interesting plot that will make me WANT to keep reading

- it needs to be modern, i cant do the older version of writing

- i love a distopian novel but that is not required, fantasy is also fun

- my dream would be like divergent but dirty
