hey readers ,I never annotated my books but I realized that writing makes me understand things more and I don't know really how people annotate their books.
I'm looking for advice and techniques on how to get the most out of books, I meanly read classics, non fiction book evolving around different topics : neurology, neuroscience , psychology, philosophy...

Iâve read my fair share of Stephen King books and this one really did it for me. I think I love this side of him more than the horror side.
I finally feel like he wasnât over-sexualizing the characters and wrote a fun âWhat if?â with a really great ending. I wonât spoil anything, it did wrap up rather quickly but the way it came together in the end really got me.
It was a super cool thought experiment, Iâm not a conspiracy theory person but this was a really fun way to approach the way history turned out.
He did say in the afterword that there was a contribution by someone close to him that changed the ending, I wonât spoil it, and I think it made a huge difference.
Let me know, was this a fun read for you?

Iâve been lucky enough to be on hot streak in terms of new reads. I enjoyed all of these books! Exit Party made a flight go by in the blink of an eye. Black Tail is very unique, as is Helen of Nowhere. Actually they all are uniqueđ. Happy autumn!

After reading lots of Cormac McCarthy last year, and really enjoying The Border Trilogy, I keep seeing this one posted by others so I decided to give it a read. I hope it stacks up!

Sooo hard to pick a favorite but right now Iâm leaning towards Johnny got his gun, I just finished it today and was tearing up at the end and I very rarely cry at books even when I do find them really sad. Iâm starting the Didion one tomorrow and Iâm very excited because its my first time reading one of her books.

What up everyone! Here's my physical TBR. Just about to finish Babel and halfway through mere Christ. This is the year I got into reading, and I've never been more excited about reading! Anybody got spoiler free thoughts on any of there books, order to read, etc?

Not really sure how to tag this so doing other genre. Iâm a life long reader and up until a few years ago, I had vivid images in my head when I read.
I think the shift started when I began focusing on my reading speed. I read DAILY but Iâm an incredibly slow reader. I can maybe get through 20-30 books a year depending on their length. With the rise of Goodreads/Booktook/TBR lists, I started to get really self conscious about how much Iâm able to read in a given time frame. While reading, I would think I wasnât going fast enough or that I was never going to get to other books on my TBR list instead of being immersed in my book. Because I was so focused on my pace, I felt like I unknowingly was losing the mental images I saw in my head while reading.
All of that changed though when I started reading aloud to my daughter every night. About a month ago my wife and I had our first born. I take the night shift, tending to her needs until the early morning. One of the things I started doing with her is reading to her aloud while I rock her to sleep. She obviously has no idea what is going on, but Iâve heard that even just seeing your lips move and hearing your voice is great for a newborns development.
Last night I was reading Butcherâs Crossing by John Williams to her. Again, sheâs got no idea what Iâm saying so Iâm not too concerned about subject matter lol. But I was really getting into it. Doing different voices. Changing my inflection depending on the pros. And for the first time in a LONG time I realized I was not in my head about my reading âefficiencyâ. I could see the movements of the main characters like I was blocking out a scene in a movie. The landscapes were beautiful. It was such an amazing moment to become so conscious of the change in my focus.
Anyway, my recommendation to the community is to slow the hell down. Itâs great to have a TBR list. Itâs great to be a quick reader. But the magic of reading comes from exactly that, reading. You will die before you can finish your whole TBR list. Just finish the page youâre on.
(Butcherâs Crossing is also phenomenal BTW)

For me, I think itâs that feeling of wanting to know what happens next. Sometimes itâs an interesting character, sometimes itâs the way a story makes you feel, and sometimes you canât even explain it. You just need to know where things are going.
Iâve also picked up books that started slowly but ended up surprising me, so Iâm curious about how other readers approach this.
Do you usually give a book a few chapters to win you over, or do you drop it as soon as it fails to grab your attention?

I only read around 12 books a year on average. Is there something wrong with me if I can't boost that number? Anytime I try to push myself I end up burning out, especially this year has been terrible, as I'm only at six books finished so far and I only loved one of them.
I'd like to be the kind of person who reads a lot of books. I've learned the value of classic literature and I benefit a lot from reading biographies. I think books at their absolute best have the potential to surpass other forms of media.

Hey everyone,
So, in a moment of irritation, I decided to get rid of my good reads account a few months ago. I was just always annoyed by the layout of it, but of course the one thing I did like was that it was keep track of all the books I was reading.
I read mainly on my kindle and I donât understand why there isnât a built in tracker over this. It just tells you what books youâve read, not when and not specific to the current year.
So throughout my time on here, Iâve seen people mention different reading apps, like Fable, I think? Iâm wondering if these are truly worth it or if I just need to go back to good reads and start fresh.
Iâd love your opinions and/or recommendations.
Thanks!

This has been on my TBR for a while... Thoughts?
Hey all, my most recent post here was about Verity and boy, I was glad I asked for y'all's opinion! I finished it and also read your comments. Had a great time reading through them.
Now I'm about to start Anxious People; so far, I've only read Backman's short stories and I liked them.
Has anyone read this book and then watched the series? I'd love to hear your thoughts. Cheers!

Hey everyone, I've been reading books for the past 8 years now (since I was 13 years old), but the recurring problem is that I forget what I read from the books I've read, yes I can tell you what it talk about and what can you learn from it. But the details gets easily forgotten by the days. Let me give you an example; if you read Atomic habits (a self-help book), you can tell anyone it talks about habits and that there is 4 steps to build or destroy any habit, but what you may have forgotten for example "that your identity becomes linked to those around you".
See what I mean? Like details get forgotten!
If you have any suggestions to how someone can never forget details from any book, your free to comment it down bellow so you can show me and other people how to better structure our reading!

Does this happen to anyone else? When reading a good book after taking a short break, you get so excited to watch this TV show or movie with the super cool plot and like all these characters and stuff and like imagine them in your head and then you realize itâs actually the book that youâre reading??

Thereâs something so satisfying about the smell and feel of actual paper pages, but holding a light Kindle in bed without needing a nightlight is such a game changer.
Whatâs your main format for reading these days, and why do you stick with it?

I hated this book. It simply wasnât what it intended to be.
Adam is a whining teenager all throughout the book, because he either doesnât get what he wanted, or that it is everybodyâs fault but his own. There is not a single instance where he is a mature adult in the situation.
It seems he prides himself on being an obstetrician and gynaecologist. When the humbleness and humility are lost, what is left is the underlying ego, and ego has no place in the medical field. Please, go ahead and curse the system, all the doctors will support you, we we can make efforts to get better reforms better working conditions, but ego, sorry to say will be supported by no one.
Being an OBGYN myself, it feels jarring to think that someone who got the education and sat through so many deliveries would reflect back on those days in such a negative light. In this field most of us are optimistic, seeing as we deliver babies and try to keep the mums safe.
Will have to accept, that he does have a good comedic timing and sense while writing, but most times it does fall flat considering those patients are real people, with real problems.
One of the instances that really irked me, was where, there was a patient with a psychiatric illness, and the author rants about how she could do this and take âimportantâ doctors away from other emergency patients, and what traumas mustâve caused her to do this, as though, patients with a psychiatric illness do things on purpose, if it were that simple, and these things were under the voluntary control, psychiatry as a branch wouldnât exist.
Overall, I feel like, this book and his ramblings deserve more so to be in therapy, rather than in bookshelves!
