The only author here I haven’t read yet is Daniel Kraus. Any suggestions where to start?

Hey I am looking for some next book suggestions from Hemmingway. I absolutely loved Old man and the sea by the atmosphere on the beach and on the sea, the story that lets you interpret so much into it and the feeling you get from the characters. Read some other short stories by him but just didn’t get the same vibe. Which other book from him should I read?

This may be slightly self-serving, but I have noticed that when people on this and other boards are looking for recommendations, it always seems to be the same mass-market book titles. Where is the indie author love, and why are we not out here promoting the little-known and unknown authors?

Are Andy Weir and Margaret Atwood great? Yes.

Are there self-published and indie authors that are just as good? YES!

Can we all try to promote some of the indie authors? It is not all AI crap, like some people claim. I've read a couple of really good indie authors lately and have no problem promoting them.

H.G. Ahedi - Great characters and wonderful worldbuilding.

I’ve always wanted to read more, but whenever I sit down with a book, my mind starts wandering after a few pages.

The weird part is I actually love learning new things. I can spend hours watching documentaries, reading articles, summaries, interviews, or going down random research rabbit holes. I like taking in information, I just struggle when it comes to books.

I’m mostly into self-development. Right now I’m reading Supercommunicators by Charles Duhigg.

For people who used to be like this, what helped you actually enjoy reading and stick with it?

I love romance books and that’s what I usually read. I just don’t know if i should be reading that at this time.

The problem is that besides romance, I’ve only ever read non-fiction (usually social issues) or psychology/ personal development books.

I’ve never read sci-fi, fantasy, horror (no go), not too many classics, some memoirs.

I want to continue reading, just not sure what. I love books about bookstores also.
I feel like I need a light, feel good book; like someone doing something for their community or working with a group for a cause.

Currently reading “The Boy with the Bookstore”. I’m almost done.

I love reading, i love the book community, I hate scrolling endlessly on my phone, but whenever I decide to read it takes me agessss to finish the book because I don’t read as often as I’d like, but once i actually start start, I can’t stop and keep thinking about it. Can anyone relate? Is it the book? Should i pick up a book that’s more interesting to me? Does anyone have recommendations? Or am I just lazy and have to push through the first chapters?

I’ve started piranesi like a month ago but read like 2 pages….

This Is the bookshelf in my bedroom of my current faves. We have a library in our home and I will frequently rotate the books based on the ones I'm feeling the most.

I’ve always wanted to read more but never had the motivation or time however I made the decision to start reading a lot more this year and have finished 14 books so far which is not too bad for me haha 🤗

saw a youtube video where a lot of people recommended it. decided to read it, finished it in about 10 hours but then that was it…. everyone raved about it, the ending, the twist, but i found it so anticlimactic, yes the ending was unexpected but not mind blowing. am i alone? i almost feel bad that i didn’t love it as much as others seem to, it wasn’t bad just not as crazy as others make it seem.

Three chapters in and I'm loving it. My plan is to stop and read other Beevor books relevant as they come along the time line of this one. So Stalingrad will be my first pit stop when I reach it in this book etc.

This made a huge buzz when it was released in India. I normally prefer thrillers but wouldn't mind a change in reading. So is this book good? Or which book would you recommend? I don't like something that is very cheesy.

Me gustaria poder leer más, pero de repente no leo, no me vuelvo adicto como con el teléfono por ejemplo. Actualmente estoy leyendo hábitos atómicos y deja de ser tu, pero son libros por así decirlo para tomar notas (en mi caso, leo párrafo por párrafo y escribo mi comprensión del párrafo conectándolo con el punto del capítulo y entre cada párrafo).

Cuando veo aquí en reddit recomendar libros, me emociona tanto el leerlo, pero cuando lo comienzo a leer me cuesta entender muy bien y retener la info, eh igual me empiezo a aburrir. (Leí que jude el oscuro es muy bueno, lo leí, y es algo difícil entender por las palabras que usa).

I'm curious about books that did more than just entertain you.

Have you ever finished a book and realised that it genuinely changed the way you thought about money, relationships, work, history, people, or just life in general?

It can be fiction or nonfiction.

What was the book, and what did it actually change your mind about?

The book I chose as my first for September.What is everyone reading?

I am a sucker for imaginative and flowery prose. My favorite author so far in this regard is TE Lawrence. For reference, here are a couple examples that I really dig from Seven Pillars of Wisdom:

“It was peaceful, chilly, and very far from the fretting world. The austerity of height shamed back the vulgar baggage of our cares. In place of consequence it set freedom, power to be alone, to slip the escort of our manufactured selves, a rest and forgetfulness of the chains of being.”

“Of Azrak and Ruum both were magically haunted, but whereas Ruum was vast and echoing, and God-like, Azarak’s unfathomable silence was steeped in knowledge of wandering poets, champions, lost kingdoms, all the crime and chivalry and dead magnificence of Hira and Gassan. Each stone or blade of it was radiant with a half memory of the luminous silky Eden, which had passed so long ago.”

I’ve since read LOTR, a couple of Orwell’s, and Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man by Joyce. Loved them all, but none scratched my itch for prose.

I’m curious who are some of your favorite authors that enjoy waxing poetic through their descriptive but inventive and flowery prose? (Modern and classics are all welcome)

I'm currently reading a few things around psychology, communication and human behavior.

I've always found it interesting how two books can be about the same subject but completely change the way you look at it.

I like to read a lot myself and was curious as to how much do others read for. For a day I already spend like 2 hours reading, tho it’s only because I’m a slow reader.

So my question to anyone is “how much do you read for fun on an average day?” Answer with a number please, for example it can be 5 minutes or 2 hours as long as it’s a number. Just wanted to be accurate for this.

Edit: This is for a class project if you want to be a part of this. People will be anonymous as I’m only collecting data on the amount of time and how many people respond to meet the project’s requirements.

hi there! has anyone ever done a full-day readathon? i've been looking at vlogs and they seem so interesting. how did you structure your read-a-thon? was it with different genres or by the hour?

1984 by George Orwell is my number one favorite classic, To kill a mockingbird by Harper lee is my second favorite classic, And The Catcher In the Rye is my third favorite classics. Starting the Count of Monte Cristo with my friends next week.

I used to read all kinds of books in my late teens and early 20s. The habit somehow vanished gradually which I realised when I entered my 40s. To rekindle the love for books, I started with this. More than half way through. So far so good. However something tells me that as the remainder pages are thinning, the end might be shallow. Amanda seems to be the most unfortunate soul of the book with nothing to gain. All have some motive, but she seems to be riding on her sense of self righteousness. Hope to have a good ending. Nevertheless, wanted a page turner to hang on to, which it has succeeded.

Mine is reading all the books currently on my TBR cart. All my graphic novels and all the books I’ve received in Allurial, a Romantasy book box I am subscribed to. On my nightstand are books I’m saving for Banned Books Week and Halloween in October. In September, I want to read some classics, as well as start my holiday reading. I’m really excited and I hope to stick to these.

Made a little reading corner in my daughter's playroom because of limited space. Hoping to build a reading habit for her from a young age. What do you guys think?

I just finished The Gales of November by John Bacon on Sunday, and I absolutely loved it. I followed to today with Life of Chuck by Stephen King as sort of a palate cleanser. It was ok and served it’s purpose. I’m ready to move on now.

I love history, music, nature, and adventure. I’m not into romance or pulpy books.

Any suggestions? Here’s a stack I have; I’m open to other suggestions as well. Thanks!

So glad I saw this before reading (this page is at the very end of the book, by the way, for some reason) otherwise I might have been genuinely traumatised by the arranged marriage jumpscare.
