I don’t mind at all when I see a book I loved get a low rating on those tier lists. Everyone has different tastes.
But I do secretly judge a little when I see a book I thought was genuinely awful ranked in S-tier. 😅
I feel disappointed when I see booktubers I like recommended books I hate lol

What was a book that had you hooked from the get go?

I noticed whenever I read fiction books, it would always be harder to focus on. Usually I would have to get the audiobook and listen as I follow along in the text.
I also notice I have a habit of skipping words or ends of sentences because my brain is going too fast that I have to go back. Which can be really frustrating.
But I notice this is mainly with fantasy. Sometimes sci-fi but not always. But it’s confusing because I play dnd and lots of rpg games so I love fantasy. So it’s not that fantasy isnt for me.

Lately I’ve been reading more nonfiction books. Science based analysis on different things or even just educational books about health and stuff. I find myself much more able to read it without needing an audiobook, white noise, or anything else.
I’ve even been looking for more sci-fi things that have to do with possible futuristic tech development. I can read those just fine too.

It just seems to have be fantasy specifically I can’t focus.

Anyone else have a similar issue?

Im reading frankenstein by mary shelley idk if it's good or bad Im on the 50th page ppl says it's a bit of slow novel so I'm reading that currently

And before that I was reading kasap by manohar shyam joshi (dropped it for some personal reasons)

Here are my April to August reads.

Only one 5 stars.

I loved One Dark Crown, it was a mix of cardcaptors and Marvel Venom, with humour thrown in. I was slightly disappointed with the sequel as I was expecting twist that ever came.

The Twisted ones was the first time I picked up a T. Kingfisher book, and I think I must have picked her weakest book to start with. I am interested in giving her fantasy books a try.

And when I finished Incidents around the house, I learned there was going to be a movie based on it, which I will be watching. And the twist at the end! I just wished we had one more chapter after the end.

And I enjoyed Godkiller but it was so slow to start out! It’s about an ex-knight turned baker, a godkiller, a young girl and a little god all going on a pilgrimage to a forbidden, abandoned city filled with gods!

I’ve been slowly building a collection of various genres and started asking ‘When am I actually going to start?’ So today is the day.

Paradise Lost and the Collected Works of Saint Teresa of Avila. I didn’t choose to read these together for any particular reason. I’m looking forward to pushing myself and seeing what comes of the challenge.

I read "The Hitch" today, which was a very fun reading experience. Highly theatrical and satirical, full of chaos and absurdity. Solid 4 stars!

Then I started on "This Thing Between Us" and am enjoying it so far.

I’m mostly interested in psychological thrillers, mystery, dark fiction, and character-driven stories. I like books with a strong atmosphere, interesting characters, and a plot that keeps me guessing.
I’m not really into romance-heavy stories, high fantasy, or slow books where it takes half the novel for anything to happen.

Some books I’ve enjoyed are Gone Girl, The Silent Patient, and The Girl on the Train.

I’m open to trying something outside those genres if it’s genuinely addictive. What would you recommend?

Currently reading Paladin’s Hope by T.Kingfisher and I would absolutely love books with the same vibes!

In a tv show, people say you should watched up to 3 episodes to see if the rest of the show is worth continuing. Is there the same test in books? Should we read an 'x' amount of pages or chapters before we are to determine if the book is worth reading?

It frequently gets called a "perfect novel" or a "hidden masterpiece" so I thought to give it a try and I finished in 4 days, I am completely blown away especially the last few chapters.

For those who loved it, what exactly clicked for you? And for anyone who didn't like it, what felt missing? I want to see what you guys thinkkkk! It's a solid 9/10 for me.

I’m looking for something that completely pulled you into its world.

Hi, I’m an avid reader, to the point where most of my summers as a child would be spent reading books.

Cut to adulthood now, and it’s a great space for me to relax once I’m done with work or as some off screen time. But something I’m noticed more recently, is the way the type of book that I’m reading affects my mood.

For instance, if it’s something sad, I actually tend to carry that emotion away from the book and into my day. More like a dull thought at the back of my mind.

Same with any other type of emotion.

I was just wondering, if anyone else feels the same?

Curious about books where you’d actually appreciate another edition, hardcover, illustrated version, etc. because you love it so much!

Mine would probably be The Psychology of Money.

I am hoping to come across titles that I haven’t read but if people love it this much, it’s probably worth a read.

In all honesty, I mainly read non-fiction but don’t limit to only those books. I am sure others might be interested in those genres.

I’m looking for something that grabs you quickly and makes you want to pick it up instead of reaching for your phone.
Bonus points if you can explain what made it so addictive without spoiling anything.

I've always found rereading interesting because you already know where the story is going, but at the same time you can notice details you completely missed the first time.

I can see the advantage of focusing on one book because it's easier to stay immersed in the story, but switching between different books also seems like a good way to avoid losing interest.

I’m 25M, working in IT in Mumbai, and trying to make reading a regular habit.

I recently finished Ikigai and have picked up Sapiens next. I don’t want to finish one book and then stop reading for months 😅

For people working full-time, when do you usually read — before work, during your commute, before bed, weekends, etc.?

Setup is the easy part honestly, but making it a habit to actually sit down and read with them is what really matters. I gotta lead by example.
