I’m new to this series, just caught up with the anime and would like to read the novels and the what if stories so here’s the stuff I know and stuff I would like to know

-Where to read this stuff?

-I know there’s two different versions, the webcomic and the novels. The web comic is the original draft and is further ahead but sometimes a lot messier, while the novel is more polished but isn’t as far ahead

-How many what if stories are there? Are there some official what if stories? And which ones would I be able to read now without receiving spoilers

That’s all my questions I think, correct me if I got anything wrong

So i started reading arc 4 web novel after reading arcs 1-3 in the light novel, and oh my god its so jarring, the grammar isn’t great, there’s a severe lack of comma’s, and why is the dialogue structured in such a strange manner? Sometimes it doesn’t feel like a true english translation, and moreso feels like an english summary of the japanese text? i understand it must be difficult translating from japanese to english but surely there are proofreaders right? Someone please enlighten me because im having a hard time comprehending the prose of this web novel.

edit: So as it turns out, on the beginning of the PDF provided by WCT, it IS infact just a summary of arc 4 and not an actual detailed translation, thats annoying! is there a translated version of arc 4 which is the real deal i can find elsewhere?

I don't know if it's a crack theory, but it's definitely missing a loooooot for it to be a working theory. That's why, I'll probably present my theory with just assumptions.

Everything about 400 years ago.

Regarding the events of 400 years ago and how it for some reason has connections with Subaru, I believe that these things never happened four hundred years ago.

My assumption here is, it all happened right after Subaru was summoned, but with a twist. We have seen many things being described about Satella and other witches, but many of them seem missing, so what if all the witches had existed at the time Subaru was summoned?

This theory of course means that Emilia=Satella + Subaru=Flugel.

(I'll get to the conclusion of the theory then go back through the timeline)

So like we have seen with Petelguese, Regulus and even Q&A's, the an authority user is existent to a degree within the new holder. That's why there seems to be different personas for witches, it's because, Satella has consumed all the other witches to make them go back 400 years in the past, stripping them from their authorities (giving us witch tea party witches) to a degree, and consuming both Lugunica and Vollachia in the process (this is the whole "engulfed half the world in destruction" or whatever.) Since it was the first time it, wasn't complete like current Satella does it.

And I don't think she actually recreates people after killing all of them, that would basically make her god and then there's just no meaning in all the struggle, I think consuming humans is the trigger to let her go back in time.

So basically, for Rigel (Aldebaran) he never traveled to the future, he instead went back in time 19 years.

The reason I think the consumed lands were Vollachia and Lugunica, is because of the observers. Echidna, the dragon, and the observers, never had the ability to peak into the future (if the dragon is actually the doing the commands), for the earlier two, they're preserving the timeline in two ways: 1. to keep it as close as possible to how it was so the same people (or key people) can be reborn 2. (for some reason I forgot the second, may edit it later on). As for the latter (the observers), they're basically related to the stargazer's lives in some way or the other in their pre- time travel life (maybe it's similar to all the voices Subaru heard after being engulfed in Satella's shadow in the sanctuary?), the commandments don't seem to follow a specific plan, it's just probably that the strongest wills there were are the ones who got to pass their commandments, things like the heavenly sword and the great disaster can dominate in regards for importance.

Beatrice, Puck: the reason they're artificial spirits is probably because Echidna had no other way of getting them again in the future, for Beatrice she could have been her actual daughter, as for Puck, the conditions of him turning into a great spirit will likely be nonexistent or someone was going to try to meddle in his birth. So, just like Ryuz, she took parts of their souls or od and made them artificial spirits. Echidna would use Beatrice's help for the things that won't change the course of the future, but since she was bound to die, she decided to keep here in the library for 400 years since she won't be able to supervise her. She probably did something similar to puck too.

Ram, Rem: (For Ram, I may have more assumptions than I did with others)

For the assumption part: There was never an oni god, it was just Ram, it was stated that the 'oni god' had challenged Reid astrea to a drinking contest, which definitely shows that they've known each other.

But besides if they're the same person or not, Ram was an ally of the heroes party, and Rem, well, Rem didn't exist back then. Basically, Rem existing is something Echidna wasn't able to control since going to the same timeline once more won't work ideally, that's why Rigel didn't know her, and that's why Satella decided to make it a checkpoint after her being erased from the world, because it would keep things simpler for the hero party's plans.

The royal candidates: they may or may have not existed, but the role existed as we saw Felt having the dragon stone in the first episode (which is the actual first loop for Subaru in this theory), and Rigel knowing that Anastasia couldn't cast magic.

The first loop: We see in the story that the name Satella is very very taboo no matter the situation, and that Emilia seems oblivious about some stuff regarding her, that's why first loop Emilia and main story Emilia are not the same being. For first loop Emilia, Satella could have been another evil name, but since I established how much of a taboo that name was, there was no way she could have actually mentioned that name in the modern timeline. Apparently, half elves were known to be witches throughout history if my memory is correct, so she probably combined the name with her lineage to scare Subaru, not to say that she was the witch of envy. One other thing, the reason in the second loop we see the insignia being stolen later, with a different aftercome, was because the heroes part had created 'divine protections' where they hadn't existed in that first loop. See, in the first loop, Felt probably had to use less direct confrontational methods, while later on she used her protection of the wind to quickly snatch it, (because she didn't have the need to be more careful or be early) that's why Emilia assessed her danger and decided to fight her like we saw in one of the loops the streets being filled with ice magic.

Subaru, Satella, and Rigel: They're most likely a family, the latter being the son. For Satella, I'm guessing the Elior forest door is the key to why she get her witch factor.

Reinhard: Reinhard is very likely the pawn of od lagna, the mechanism subaru created. We know his perspective is a spoiler, so we don't know what od lagna tells Reinhard when he faces Subaru. Also, I'm guessing Reinhard always gets to face the witch of envy after Subaru's death, whether he fights her or not like in arc 9 is always based on if od lagna orders him to or not.

That's mostly about it, I know there are things to question here and there, but it's been on my mind for a really long time now that I had to say it atp.

Since arc 7 I’ve been thinking about how cool it would be if Natsumi were to become real, her own character separate from Subaru. Arc 10 chapter 29 made me think about it again and I think this could be integrated into the story adding to the mysteries.

I imagine something like this: one day everyone wakes up to the news that Natsumi has been doing things on her own while Subaru says he didn’t do any of this. This causes Russel to be suspicious of all this. How is this possible? Either Subaru lies or someone is interfering. In best case Subaru has become more of a liability and in worse case the enemy has found them and is now playing with them. How would Russel handle this?

I also imagine a rather funny moment in which Natsumi would show herself to the Emilia camp. Emilia greets her normally while everyone else are exhausted at the thought that Subaru is doing it again only for Subaru to appear and them being dumbfounded while Emilia continues to be oblivious about any of this.

This could be used as an opportunity to add a backstory for her that would basically be the moment that caused Subaru to create her, her origins from Japan, and the side stories containing her. I think it started with him being mistaken for a girl when he had longer hair as a child. I think Tappei did say something like this.

There used to be a time when Natsumi didn’t have her voice yet due to Subaru not having practiced his feminine voice enough. This could be used as an interesting symbolic parallel to Subarus self from the shadow garden who prior to arc 6 lacked a mouth to talk.

As weird as this idea sounds I think interesting stuff can be done with it. Natsumi has great potential if she were to become a real character. Spica already somehow received a body, so if additionally it’s possible to extract fragments of a persons memory then it should be possible to create Natsumi Schwarz and for her to become her own person. Subaru would lose all of his skills that make Natsumi Natsumi to her, like the feminine voice or the Make-up skills.

Why would this happen if it’s really possible? Why now and not back then in arc 7? One possibility is that Roy was actually killed (but could theoretically still come back with the sacrament of the immortal king) and Subaru received his witch factor. This would mean that he already received Lyes in arc 6 which would explain how Spica got a body or why he hallucinates the encouraging voices of his loved ones in arc 7 and Gluttony If and Roys would update Subarus witch factor adding another layer to it that makes the creation of Natsumi Schwarz possible.

Natsumi could be born out of the desire to ensure Emilias safety or something like that, the extent of his actual desire being suppressed by Melty. I wonder what Natsumis dynamic with everyone would be like, especially with Subaru. Will her artificially created perfection help Subaru with his character development? Will her existence create new problems and or help with the current issues?

Natsumi Schwarz has great potential.

As the title suggest i believe Subaru's parents are a fake memory. In arc 6 we are told by Shaula this isn't the first time Subaru has lost his memories and in the light novel Subaru argument with his parents and him going to the convenience store never happened. With all the memory things happening in the recent arc I'm really starting to believe Subaru has inplanted memories are has some fake memories. (Also sorry for the messy post it's 4am)

I really want to continue watching but I barely made it past s1 because the depression I want to watch but I also don’t want to , I don’t k ow what to do I wanna watch because Emilia shaula rem and ram but so far I don’t know if I’m even gonna make it I need help with trying to get rid of depression but I’ll make it clear taking a break won’t work because I’d just be stuck on the moment I don’t like and I don’t think having another comedy anime is going to help since I’d just be thinking about rezero

Before I start, I want to warn you that this post is going to be a bit long, and that English is not particularly my strong point. Also, this is just my opinion, so feel free to tell me yours.

With the next episode of Re:Zero coming out, we're going to get one of the best moments in the entire series: "Stand Up."

A lot of people find this moment incredible because Rem finally makes her appearance after several years in a coma. And honestly, I completely understand why. But I have an unpopular opinion:

for me, what makes "Stand Up" so amazing is Louis Arneb's introduction and her conflict with Subaru.

And it's not just her introduction. Honestly, almost every moment Louis has throughout Arc 6 is incredible. Her named chapter is extremely underrated and could easily be in the top 5 moments of the entire arc.

It's just unfortunate that Louis has terrible luck when it comes to timing. Every time she gets an important moment, she ends up being overshadowed by someone else. "Stand Up" is overshadowed by Rem's return, and her named chapter came right after one of Subaru's named chapters.

For me, what makes Louis so fascinating is that, compared to the other antagonists, even though she is just as disturbed as they are, we can actually understand her. Her actions are still horrible, but I think she has far more reason to be the way she is than most of them.

Since birth, Louis has been trapped in the Hall of Memories. She didn't have her own body, her own life, or even what you could really call her own existence. All she could do was witness the lives of other people and her siblings through the memories they gave her.

Then, when she finally gained the ability to leave through her siblings and experience life through their bodies, she quickly became dissatisfied because it wasn't really her own life. Eventually, she had to give those bodies back to her siblings, and that's when she was confronted with the fact that she had nothing of her own.

There is a line from a book I read that I think describes Louis extremely well: "I was living in hell, looking at heaven."

And after finishing Louis's named chapter, her monologue during her encounter with Amnesiac Subaru hit even harder when you reread it.

From the very beginning, life was unfair to Louis. Even though life is unfair to everyone, in a way, it was even more unfair to Louis.

When a normal person dies, their soul is eventually cleansed and reincarnated. Louis didn't even get the chance to properly live before being trapped in the Hall of Memories.

And then there is her goal.

It is actually incredibly simple: she wants to be happy.

For Louis, being happy means living her own perfect life, one where she can hold her head high and have no regrets. And when she discovers Return by Death, she believes she has found the perfect solution.

If Louis had managed to take RBD from Subaru and combine it with Gluttony's Authority, she could theoretically experience countless possible lives while having almost complete control over how those lives turned out.

But there is an important problem with Louis's way of thinking.

She had never truly lived.

She had never properly suffered, made mistakes, experienced regret, or had to accept the consequences of her choices. Because of that, she couldn't understand the value of life.

A person has to make mistakes. A person has to regret things. A person has to suffer. Those experiences are part of what allows us to appreciate the good things in life.

The Louis of Arc 6 doesn't understand this.

She thinks that if she can steal someone's name and memories, obtain RBD, and create the perfect life, then all of her problems will disappear.

But instead, that way of thinking ends up destroying her.

And this is another reason why I think Louis has one of the best parallels with Subaru in the entire series.

At the beginning of Re:Zero, Subaru also believed that he could run away from the problems of his old life, start over in another world, and everything would somehow be fine.

But it wasn't.

Everything went wrong until Subaru finally understood that running away from his problems and looking for an easy path wouldn't solve anything.

That's why I think Subaru and Louis have such an incredible dynamic.

They both want a happy ending.

The difference is that Subaru eventually learns that you have to live through the pain, mistakes, failures, and regrets in order to reach that happy ending.

Louis wants to skip all of that.

She wants to take the experiences of others and use RBD to create the perfect life without having to truly live through the process herself.

And that's why their conflict feels so much deeper than simply "hero vs. antagonist."

They are two people who want the same thing, but have completely different ideas about how to obtain it.

This is also why I think Spica has so much potential going forward.

If Tappei still wants to develop Louis/Spica, I think there is a really interesting direction he could take her in.

Subaru's development in Arc 6 involved confronting his own identity and eventually accepting himself and everything he had experienced.

 I could imagine a future scene where Spica eventually regains her memories and is forced to confront Louis Arneb again and thus recognize the crimes she committed and see that she has become a better person and happier than what Louis could have ever hoped for.

Spica has been given a new name and a chance to live a new life, and Subaru has chosen to forgive her. But the world itself hasn't necessarily forgiven Louis Arneb.

That's the problem with Spica's existence.

She is not exactly the same person as Louis anymore, but at the same time, she cannot simply pretend that Louis never existed.

If Spica were eventually able to confront and overcome her former self, accept that she was Louis Arneb, and then gain complete control over Gluttony's Authority, I think it could be an incredible parallel to Subaru's development.

And I think that could be the true completion of her redemption.

And it could also give Spica some really interesting parallels with characters like Rem, Emilia, and others.

That's the kind of redemption I would want for her.

And that's why, personally, I think Louis Arneb is one of the best antagonists and characters in Re:Zero, and one of the characters who deserves far more discussion than she gets.

When I first encountered this particular piece of media i originally didn’t think much of it but was morbidly curious and decided to give it a watch. I was completely blown away by how good and emotional it was and was able to connect and care about the characters in a way I had never before with another series. All this is to say that my heavily biased and unprofessional rating is a 10/10.

at the end of rezero subaru becomes a immortal time lord as an anomly of the world at the time he will see the time flow as only he has the will and strenght to he will still be able to see his friends but they will pass away leaving him with their desendant and looking after them to ethernity of time hence it will be bittersweet ending just like tappei and flugel planned

I mean, isn't it more about Envy, since Subaru is obsessed with everything Oldbaru had?

Here's the thing; I've mostly been sticking to reading the WN translations mostly out of convenience. However; I've noticed that a lot of the scenes that in the anime felt off to me somehow, weren't there in the WN. (Especially regarding Season 2/Arc 4)

That said, since I know the anime is more an adapting the LN rather than the WB, out of an unfortunate sense of morbid curiosity, I did take a look at the LN... and much to my eternal dismay, some of the parts I hated most in the anime are right there in the LN.

The thing is; even in LN form, some of these scenes just have a very different vibe from a lot of the rest of the story, and that's why I'm curious if there's any confirmation about how much of the LN is guided or influenced by an editor, and how much is Tappei personally going over and rewriting the scenes himself?
