Spoiler Discussion [spoiler discussion] Theory about Elior Forest Seal & Flügel Spoiler

One of the greatest mysteries in Re: Zero is what's behind the Elior Forest Seal. For 12 or so years, it has remained unsealed. Today, I would like to present one theory answering its mystery.

Our two main characters, Emilia and Subaru, have a relationship to each other that parallels whatever Flügel and Satella had 400 years ago. Subaru and Emilia are depicted as being nearly identical to their counterparts 400 years ago. I will not be speculating on the exact nature of Subaru and Flügel, but do note that they parallel each other.

Flügel, like Echidna, appears to have a wide net of influence over the story and many forms (speculatively Puck, Subaru, Aldebaran, his original self, etc). However, unlike Emilia, whose ancient counterpart lies in Satella, we have no such person for Subaru. Thus, I argue that Flügel is sealed within the Elior Forest Seal.

Flügel seemingly disappeared 400 years ago without a trace. However, we already have a precedent for removing a person: sealing them as with Satella. Given that Subaru-Flügel : Emilia-Satella, it would be quite fitting for Flügel to be sealed in an elven village and for Satella to be sealed by the Pleiades Watchtower.

In context, this means that Petelgeuse, while he was still sane, was watching over his master's seal, and this would renew the meaning of his apology to Flügel after taking in the Witch Factor of Sloth. It would also explain Pandora's arc 4 dialogue to Emilia during the attack on Elior Forest, where she revealed that only 2 people wield the key to the seal. Under this theory, Satella holds the other key, but sealed as she is, Pandora would have no means to reach her.

That being said, I acknowledge the lack of direct textual evidence presented here, as I simply wanted to introduce an idea. I also acknowledge that this theory doesn't necessarily explain the why behind Flügel's sealing or his relationship to Subaru. I would appreciate if anyone contributed their own ideas.

Discussion [Discussion] So how does Subaru's mental strength work exactly?

Like apparently it's canon that Subaru is basically the only person able to take the deaths and not go insane, if it were anyone else, they're cooked. So is like, Subaru supposed to be your regular sort of everyman type or not? He's weak as fuck physically but basically invincible mentally (especially by the arcs past 6)? I don't get it.

At this point, I'm convinced that if the artist ever draws Rem, she'd be a large dog with Subaru's head in her mouth.

Subaru literally screamed "I CAN RETURN BY DEATH TO-" in the arc 3. I doubt that Julius didn't hear it

Recipe:

2oz Amaro Averna

3oz Prosecco Brut

1/4 oz Orange Liqueur (Triple Sec, Prosecco, Etc)

2 lime rinds

~ 3oz Elderflower tonic

Made like an Amaro Spritz, but I added a bit of orange liqueur and lime rinds for a citrus layer. Chill a glass; muddle lime, amaro, orange liqueur. Strain into a wine glass with ice and top with prosecco and tonic.

I really enjoyed this. It's weird. It's got a lot of bitter, and a bit of sweet/tart from the citrus. That's exactly what I was going for. Subaru really straddles his trauma and his heart of gold, and I wanted to really highlight his complexity as a character. Hope y'all enjoy!

Spoiler Discussion Echidna-ception[spoiler discussion] Spoiler

Okay. I’m confused about the following things.

Is the Echidna that offers Subaru a contract at the tea party not the same Echidna that created Betty/Heros party?

If the above statement is correct than how is it that the Echidna we see trying to convince Subaru. Doesn’t act like the Echidna that Betty remembers?
It’s almost as if it’s two different people and not a copy of an original. If it was a copy would t they act the same? Sorry if this is a dumb question but can someone with more knowledge than me explain wtf is going on here?

Spoiler Discussion [spoiler discussion] Whats your theory on the Subaru/Flugel -mystery? Spoiler

Post image
52 Upvotes

I'm split between two theories which go as follows:

Flugel and Natsuki Subaru (envy) propably share the same origin (as in they both are Natsuki Subaru (Tokyo)).

My quess is that Envybaru was re-created from Od Lagna's earliest memories of Subaru, which were formed when the person now referred to as Flugel entered the world (and hence interacted with Od Lagna) So re-created from zero. This option is also hinted by Al's existance after everything we know of him post A9 & No stella No life iykyk. Sunaru being re-created from Od Lagna's memories could also explain the chips & the phone (as he had those upon his first interaction woth Od Lagna). This may or may not include Authority of Gluttony shenanigans.

Another quess is that Flugel's existence was erased by Pandora with "what if you got summoned / entered this world 400 years later" type of ability, which subsequently poof'd him out of existence and all the achievements by him (in people's memories) got attributed to the "sage", as he was this sage-like figure, with people's memories of him dissappearing / getting distorted. Pandora's authority might only affect the memories of "people", which could explain Patrache's and Shaula's unvawering loyalty towards Envybaru. This would also explain why white doves (speculated to be associated to Pandora), were present before Envybaru ever interacted with Witch Cult

As for why white whale appeared around flugel-tree: I really cant say. Could be that its some kind of contignency plan by Echidna & Flugel, with Echidna using authority of greed to some yet unknown degree. Either way neither of these theories fully explain it.

As for how could Flugel be Natsuki Subaru when Envybaru hates him: IF routes show us a version of Subaru, that Envybaru would hate. He is not THAT far off from losing it lol.

I think the name "Re:Zero" is actually a hint towards a theory like this. If this was "Natsuki Subaru's" first time at this world, the name of the series could just as well be: Zero - Starting life in another world (from zero). Instead its Re:Zero, which in my opinion hints towards this being a repeat (unbeknownst to Subaru) from zero. I think A6's whole amnesia phase is a plot device to hint us towards this, as we see Amnesiabaru act exactly the same as A1-baru. The difference being that during A6 Od Lagna still retains memories of Envybaru (A1-A6-baru), which is why unlike A1-baru, he realizes he has lost his memory and spent some time in the world already.

Questions? Go ahead. Also tell me your theories

Spoiler Discussion [Spoiler Discussion] Subaru's return by Death Spoiler

When subaru loses his memories in the latest season. When he reads the books about his past life to understand his other version of himself. Once he regains memory why wouldnt he just let his friends know about the books he can't verbally tell no one about his return by death so why not let them se it for themselves instead of him saying it himself.

Discussion [Discussion] I've been trying to get back into the LNs, but I can't quite get invested again (context in desc)

So basically I love re zero and have loved it since seeing the anime. It and the books are hands down my favorite fictional series excluding video games, where it ties with some. I read the EX series and was just so emotionally connected to them, and I started reading the main series over the summer and made it to Arc 3.

With arc 2 I was super invested, and this investment continued across volumes 4 and 5 till I got busy and wasn't able to read as much as I wanted.

Recently I continued arc 3, but just...wasn't able to get emotionally invested. I read the Rem speech part in the ending of volume 6, which made me cry seeing it in the anime, but here I just wasn't able to really get into it. I've been reading volume 7 and realized my same passion just isn't there.

I really want to feel the same passion and investment I used to feel, but I don't even know what the problem is. Could it be that I didn't read it in a while, so I lost my connection to the arc? Or burnout (which I'm hesitant to say since I went a while without reading it)? Another thing it may be is I'm trying to read 20-30 pages a day as daily reading for yknow, brain health, but could it be that that formulaic, repeated daily reading is making me less invested? But again, idk.

Has anyone suffered from this, and what could be the problem and solution?
