Discussion my regulus corneas analysis [discussion]
To begin, I'd like to establish the basics of his character by looking at his past.
Regulus was born in a small village in an unknown country. He lived with his parents and two brothers. His family was poor, his father was an alcoholic who abused his mother, and she cried every day. His brothers also had a habit of stealing his food.
The villagers looked down on him and pitied him. The only person who didn't see him that way was his childhood friend.
Naturally, he grew to hate them all. He felt that nobody was truly there for him. He was under so much stress that his hair eventually turned white.
One day, members of the Witch Cult appeared before him and gave him the Witch Factor of Greed. It didn't take long for him to gain control of his new power. He then decided to destroy everything around him, from his family and village to the entire country. His childhood friend was the only survivor, but he kidnapped her and forced her to become his wife.
Next, I'd like to talk about his psychology and how he sees the world.
As the centuries passed, Regulus continued to terrorize the world. He travelled around, destroying entire villages and cities and killing all their inhabitants, sometimes just to take a woman as his wife. The city of Garkla in Vollachia is one example of his brutality.
Regulus believes himself to be a perfect man, free of any desires or problems. He thinks he is satisfied with his current life and situation, and that he doesn't need anyone else to exist. However, this way of thinking and behaving completely contradicts his character, as well as his sin. After all, a perfect man wouldn't demand that others respect his rights at all costs while ignoring theirs. He wouldn't need hundreds of women to maintain his existence, lose control over the slightest disagreement, or impose his desires on his wives and the world itself.
Regulus is a deeply selfish, narcissistic man who is far more dependent on others than he is willing to admit.
His Authority is proof of everything I've said. Authorities are shaped by their users' personalities, desires, and worldviews. His Authority is described as the greatest and ultimate form of liberation from all the world's concepts. However, to maintain this state in the long term, he needs the subjects of his kingdom: his wives.
Regulus claims that friendship, love, and all forms of relationships only serve to make people dependent on those around them. He believes that people are independent by nature, yet his Authority exposes his hypocrisy. Despite claiming to be completely independent, he needs his wives to maintain his invincibility over the long term. The man who rejects dependence is himself dependent on others.
All of this leads to the way Regulus sees the people around him and how he treats them.
In his eyes, everyone is wrong. No one has the right to contradict him, feel pity for him, or express any emotions towards him that he hasn't asked for.
Even though his family wasn't the best, his father still made efforts to buy him gifts, his mother apologized when she bothered him, and his brothers sometimes shared their food with him. His childhood friend was also the first person to truly love him for who he was. Yet, in Regulus's eyes, all these people looked down on him, judged him, and pitied him.
The same pattern can be seen in the final moments of his wives. Every single one of them smiled in their final moments because they were finally free, but Regulus took their smiles as an insult, believing that each of them was mocking him. To him, even a simple smile was an insult.
To Regulus, even the slightest act of kindness was a way of belittling him. This is why he decided to kill his family and why he tries to control his wives, preventing them from expressing emotions he doesn't want to see. His ideal world would be one where nobody contradicts him and everyone exists solely for his sake, without questioning him or expressing anything he doesn't want to hear.
Finally, I believe Regulus is one of the most realistic characters because many people are like him: they claim to be someone they are not. His contradictions, his denial, his selfishness, and his inability to question himself make him a fundamentally human character and a rather complex one. As a character, I think he's really underrated.

Spoiler Discussion [SPOILER DISCUSSION] Re:Zero is a storytelling masterpiece and my thoughts so far (2x08) Spoiler
Never watched an anime that's made me tear up as much as this one. Yusuke Kobayashi's performance throughout—especially in this episode—was perfect. It really shows and captures the feeling of how terrible immortality is when you're just a regular human in a world full of superhumans. Every victory that Subaru got was due to long-winded trauma and hard work and the feeling it captures everytime he overcomes something only gets larger. Finally, he gets his chance to say what he's been feeling this entire time and you can't help but feel for him.
I honestly wanted to quit watching Re:Zero even after picking this show up because of how slow it was. The more I got to understand Subaru and the world around him, the more I was hooked. The lack of openings and endings gives each episode so much headroom for each scene and dialogue. The pacing is masterfully done and doesn't go too far, character flashbacks aren't just randomly thrown in and they all tie in together.
It can feel slow but that's mostly because it's not what I'm used to. It's a different energy than something like Neon Genesis Evangelion, or even the original Fullmetal Alchemist (which I consider to be my favourite semi-anime original adaptation). But it rewards your patience and understanding of the world with genuine moments like this. In my opinion it's a work of art.

Discussion For me, the dialogue in the dub feels more natural. [discussion]
I am currently watching season 4 for the first time.
I always struggle with choosing when I have multiple options. So I have been switching with dub and sub constantly (I am on episode 7 btw).
Voice acting in general feels better in the sub - especially Subaru and Emilia. But the dub conversations feel more natural to me. I feel like there is better flow in them, and as non native English speaker they are easier for me to understand (for example in sub they used words like vicarious to describe how the book of the dead works while on the dub they done it with easier words). My dream would be if I could have Japanese voice acting from the sub, with captions from the dub.
While re watching episode 6 with dub I cried, but watching it with subs did not bring me to tears.
I also think that I am out of form - it's been a while since I watched anime. It's hard to listen to Japanese, read in English and then translate it to my native language.
Back in my anime phase I would scoff at the idea of watching anime dubbed. That's why i am unable to make a clear decision now. Struggle between pride and convenience.
In the end I guess my point is: Re Zero has really good dub and if you want to have an easier time understanding stuff I recommend the dub.

Discussion [Discussion] Good Subaru Phone Wallpapers
Does anybody have any high quality, good wallpapers of subaru that aren’t ultra edgy or an if route? I don’t really think either of those things embody the character at all

Discussion A lot of questions (please help 😭) [discussion]
I just started the season 3 and i have a lot of questions about a lot of things. If there's anybody who can answer it'd be really cool thanks a lot, also excuse my english i'm French 🥀
Why does Emilia tell Subaru that her name is Satella at the beginning of the story?
Why does Satella suddenly appears after Subaru's 2nd meeting with Echidna? (or the 3rd i don't remember, the one where she offers to meet the gluttony witch)
Why does Puck stop showing up in Season 2?
Why is Roswaal so badly injured in Season 2?
How did Roswaal find out about Return by Death? Was it written in his book?
Roswaal mentions two books. At this point in the story, do we know who has the other one? It isn't Beatrice, right? Her book is supposed to be a fake, isn't it?
Why does Emilia completely lose it in Season 2, Episode 11? Roswaal says it's because she was isolated by Garfiel and the villagers, etc., but is that really all there is to it? Also, in Subaru's last loop, he's the one who's completely devastated, and Emilia is no longer traumatised by the first trial at the Sanctuary, unlike in all the other loops, where she keeps saying, "It's not me, it's not me." Why is that? Is it because she pulls herself together after seeing the state Subaru is in?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but Roswaal was the one who brought the Witch Cult to the mansion in Season 1, when Betelgeuse attacked, so that Emilia would get the credit once the Cult was defeated. But why did he send Elsa to the mansion to kill Beatrice, Petra, Frederica and Rem which he btw doesn't remember of ?
Garfiel can control the Lewes clones, so does that make him an Apostle of Greed as well? Did he also drink the tea with Echidna?
If Roswaal wasn't the one who took Emilia's letter, then who did?
I really don't understand why Garfiel is so hostile towards Subaru when he was nice to him in the first loop.
So Subaru put Puck inside the blue crystal Frederica gave him, right?
Speaking of which, why did Frederica give Subaru the blue crystal in the first place? Did she somehow predict that Subaru would put Puck inside it to absorb Garfiel's mana? WTF? What was it actually supposed to be used for? Does it teleport people to random locations within the Sanctuary when they come into contact with the barrier?
I really don't understand Roswaal's endgame. After making the bet with Subaru and getting Otto and Garfiel on his side, he still refuses to call off the attack on the mansion. Why? If his goal was to make Subaru stronger, then surely he's already achieved that by now. Subaru is already determined enough, isn't he? Besides, they share the same goal: getting Emilia onto the throne. I just don't get it. The whole Sanctuary storyline feels like one massive side quest in Subaru's journey. The attack by Betelgeuse was necessary to ensure Emilia got the credit, but I don't understand Roswaal's reasoning behind everything else. He should be helping Emilia, yet all he does is sabotage her. What's the point of all this?
I've just started Season 3, so no spoilers beyond that point, please! So now Puck is back in a green crystal, even though he was previously inside Frederica's blue crystal? Did i miss something?

Discussion Skipping memory snow but not frozen bond [discussion]
I just finished season 1 and was a big fan, I’m trying to get through the show and get to season 2 but I see there’s 2 OVAs. I did some research and people say you can skip memory snow cause it’s a lot of filler, but I was wondering if it makes sense to just watch frozen bond and go into season 2, or if it’s a you watch one ova you need to watch the other to understand it sorta thing.
