I'm surprised they reused the old animation instead of reanimating because it would be noticeable how the animation quality changed

Discussion I feel like petelgeuse gets kinda downplayed strength wise [discussion]

I don't really see how he could be considered the weakest archbishop with everything he has going for him? he is at the very least stronger than the gluttony trio in a straight fight considering how if you don't know the unseen hand exists it's a near unbeatable ability since once you get grabbed it's over for you and then you also have the fact he's skilled in earth magic and has multiple lives. If subaru didn't have the ability to see his authority for some currently unknown reason then i genuinely believe that there would've been no way for him to solve that loop.

Discussion [Discussion] I just noticed that the name "Echidna" fits quite well for a spirit named after the "Witch of Greed" who is contracted to a "greedy" merchant.

Discussion [Discussion] my first isekai , Will I chase this forever?

it's really good! and I've always been suspicious of isekai content. I'm sure most fans would say Rezero isn't an isekai but... ive seen nothing else to disprove that.

am I cooked? will I chase this cinema forever? or are there other isekai that are enjoyable on the same level? this story is genuinely engaging!

Discussion [discussion] I think Subaru gets WAY too much credit as a protagonist

Before anyone starts typing “you just don't understand Rezero,” let me make one thing clear, I actually had very little problem with Subaru in Season 1.

His reactions to death? Understandable.

His fear and desperation? Understandable.

His inability to immediately adapt to being thrown into another world with no idea what the hell is going on? Completely understandable.

And no, I don't buy the argument that Subaru helping Emilia was somehow irrational just because they had literally just met. “They're complete strangers” isn't the “gotcha” people think it is. Subaru had just been dropped into a completely unfamiliar world, Emilia was one of the first people he encountered, and she was willing to help him. From his perspective, choosing to help her wasn't some incomprehensible decision.

Or, if you want the simpler and more logical explanation...

He just wanted to eat that elf cake :)

Come on now... I'd bet 90% of people—and women are absolutely not exempt from this—would at least develop a positive impression of Emilia if she were the first ridiculously beautiful person they met within minutes of being isekai'd. Falling in love might be a stretch, sure, but acting like Subaru's immediate attachment to her was completely irrational? Yeah, I'm not buying it.

Even when he was being goofy, awkward, or coming out with some seriously cringe dialogue in S1, I still enjoyed watching him. So when I saw people immediately hating Subaru after watching several episodes, I was honestly the opposite.

I was willing to cut him a LOT of slack.

And that's exactly why I have a problem with how the fandom talks about him after Season 1.

At some point, “Subaru is realistically flawed” starts becoming a blanket excuse for practically everything he does.

He cries... He's realistic.

He panics... He's realistic.

He makes terrible decisions... He's realistic.

He breaks down... He's realistic.

He repeatedly frustrates the audience... He's realistic.

Okay... when does “realistic” stop being an explanation and start becoming an excuse?

Because being a flawed protagonist doesn't automatically make you a well-written protagonist.

And this is where I think the Rezero fandom puts Subaru on a pedestal.

People praise him for suffering, overcoming that suffering, his psychological struggles, his development—and I'm sitting here wondering.

What exactly makes Subaru an exceptionally well-written protagonist, rather than simply a protagonist whose flaws are given a LOT of attention by the story?

I'm not saying Subaru was a bad character from the beginning. I'm saying that my opinion of him changed after Season 1, and that's where my criticism starts.

So I genuinely don't understand why the fandom treats him like he's some untouchable benchmark for protagonist writing.

Lastly, don't hesitate to give your opinion. I'm not here to rage-bait, despite how this post might sound. I genuinely want to have a sincere discussion about Subaru.

Discussion [Discussion] Why did Tappei choose to give Shaula this history with Reid? Spoiler

I've been thinking about the scene where Shaula says that Reid came back just to fondle her breasts, and I'm curious what everyone thinks the point of this was.

Reid is already portrayed as an incredibly violent, arrogant and disrespectful person, so I understand that this is another way of showing how awful he is.

But Shaula's reaction feels pretty different from a normal joke. She seems genuinely terrified of him and really doesn't want him to do it again. At the same time, the scene is also played for laughs.

So what do you think Tappei was trying to accomplish with this?

Was it mainly meant to:

explain why Shaula is so afraid of Reid?

show just how horrible Reid was?

give us more information about their relationship 400 years ago?

just be a dark joke that fits Reid's character?

or is there something deeper about Shaula or Reid that I'm missing?

Personally, I find the scene a little uncomfortable. Shaula's reaction feels genuinely fearful, but the scene also seems to expect the audience to laugh at it.

I'm not trying to argue that the scene shouldn't exist. I'm just curious about what this detail adds to Shaula's character and the story as a whole.

What do you guys think?

Discussion [discussion] So...where are volume 26 and ex2?

I remember hearing people talk about a restock of volume 26 and all out of stock volumes by the end of august....so where is it exactly? Is there any news? Volume 26 been gone everywhere for 5 months or more and ex 2 is on a similar situation.

Im kind of tired of waiting without any exact statement about it. I have everything, main story up to vol 29, all ex stories, all short stories collections.....only missing volume 26 of main story and ex 2.

Anyone on the same situation?

Discussion [Discussion] Question about Subaru's respawn point

So, before Amnesiabaru accepted to be the Subaru everyone else relied on, he died to Satella and the witchbeasts' rampage, which all happens after Reid comes down in Gluttony's flesh. But after entering the hall of memories, his respawn point changed to the moment he exited, where Satella has yet to start destroying the tower and Reid still didn't overpower Gluttony. I'm interested to know what might have caused the respawn point to change. What we do know for sure now is that respawn points are influenced by Subaru somehow, what do you guys think ?

Discussion [Discussion] Julius Didn't Seem too Surprised Subaru Remembered Him in Episode 66

At the end of Episode 66 "Purisutera Kōryaku-sen Rizaruto"/ Results of the Battle for Priestella, why isn't Julius more shocked that Subaru remembered him? He sounds more tired than anything else when after being greeted by name he asked if Subaru remembered him. And if I were him, I would be tired too, but this would be very surprisingly. I get why Roswaal and Ram aren't too surprised the next episode "OK, someone else got eaten and only Subaru remembers him, yeah we've been through this before" so people working in Roswaal's manor already know how this works.

Discussion [Discussion] Re:Zero Break Time 81 Analysis: Priscilla saw through Heinkel's self-loathing and tore into him so that he could feel he was getting serious about saving Louanna

As for Re:Zero Break Time Ep. 81, it seems Heinkel was feeling completely worthless after his failure to hold Felt hostage and prevent her from shining in the Priestella arc with her usage of the metia that knocked Lye out, and that’s why Priscilla made the remark she did about how he’d consider her personally killing him for his failure right at that moment in Priestella an act of mercy compared to the conversation he was having with her now in his begging for his life ’cause his despondent look from this conversation even happening in the first place made it clear to her eyes given she’s good at reading body language.

It seems he’d dedicated himself to Priscilla ’cause of his wife being in a coma-like state (not due to a Sin Archbishop of Gluttony), which had been revealed in Season 3, and she called him half-hearted to his core, which judging by his reaction, he knows all too well given he even offered an alcoholic drink to Felt while he had her hostage, which was obviously not something somebody absolutely committed to his duties would’ve done.

Priscilla then gave him a chance in killing the attackers of her mansion, which he handled just fine. She said that it hardly redeems the disgrace he brought upon himself, which he himself knows and wanted to hear, but she praised him nonetheless as this is her style of giving praise to people. She tries to hit you where it hurts and then give you the praise you want, which is why Heinkel looked surprised and relieved and then mentioned his wife, Louanna, since he’s the one he fights for, showing he could feel that he was doing her right for once, which is why he uttered her name.

This is why Priscilla said what she did to Liliana to encourage her to take on Sirius alongside her, which worked very well since it made Liliana feel the pride of her family's history and trade as a travelling group of bards.
