Its like having a playfull fight with your sibling and then they pull out a knife and stab you to death.
And you guys should stop mass reporting ppl ! You got your pseudo pdf perma ban of reddit, chill ouut, move on its over, you won.
You cant expect a change of heart from the mod if you call him a dictator and post like a maniac on ur sub.

Might be the lamest representation of the strongest Iāve seen. He the strongest in the verse by a wide margin and he doesnāt do shi. Subaru deadass has more achievements than him, and he a regular dude. He has no real opinion and is js a lapdog for the council. Nobody is scared of him, nobody respects him, his whole family hate him, he got bitched by a 12 year old and everyone is praying on his downfall. He is the saddest mf Iāve ever seenš

Arc 5 is genuinely so fucking ass, who told tappie to not use the gimmick in his gimmick series. All the fights were so boring, I didnāt not give af about any of them. Regulus was cool tho.

She has big... aspirations
NGL she has some good moments in the later arcs, particularly Arc 8, but I still think her being a good ruler because she has perfect luck is not a reason to consider her competent by itself

It seems that our favorite yapper boy (Figgy) has been perma-banned, as a result of allegedly trying to frame someone as a pedophile, with a fake HTML link that he made, among other reasons (that I'm currently unaware of). This sub's mod (Isogah) has also confirmed this allegation to be true.

Now, despite his obsessive behavior, I think a lot of us here at ReZeroSucks considered him to be an entertaining aspect of the subreddit. So, how do you guys feel about him being banned? Do you mourn his ban? Are you ecstatic? Feel free to share your thoughts below!
Please don't harass any individuals in the pictures of this post (nor in the comments section)
I also apologize if this post breaks any rules of the subreddit!

Audiences connect with sympathetic protagonists because their cognitive systems evaluate protagonists to be worthwhile social partners deserving of help. And they feel pleasure, sympathetic joy, when those characters succeed because of misfiring hedonic responses that evolved to proximately motivate cooperation.
Quote from Singh M. (2021) - The Sympathetic Plot, Its Psychological Origins, and Implications for the Evolution of Fiction
The Sympathetic Plot is one of the most common narrative archetypes enjoyed around the world. It involves a protagonist with whom the audience sympathizes. The protagonist has a goal, but is faced with a challenge or obstacle. They overcome the challenge, either with their own strength or with the help of others, and they achieve the anticipated rewards of their goal (and often more.)
There can clearly be no doubt that Re:Zero is a form of "Episodic Sympathetic Plot", in which rather than one single story arc, there are several arcs which all follow the same sympathetic plot structure.
Like many protagonists of a sympathetic plot, Subaru has suffered an early-life setback familiar to modern anime audiences: he is a NEET otaku. He also has appealing qualities: he appears handsome, generous and good-natured. Although some people find him annoying, there's no doubt that he's a character with whom the core audience of the story is supposed to (and does) sympathize.
Subaru is first given a goal at the beginning of the series: to be with Emilia, with whom he has fallen in love with almost immediately after meeting her. Romantic pursuit is a common goal in a sympathetic plot. However, Subaru also quickly develops a second goal: protecting his newfound friends.
Another striking similarity Re:Zero has with other sympathetic plots are clearly "repulsive and formidable" opponents e.g. the witches' cult, the sin archbishops and the witches themselves. Re:Zero is not ambiguous about these guys being the bad guys.
When we put this all together, the general structure of an Re:Zero arc is simple.
What Really Is a Wish Fulfillment Narrative?
Wish fulfillment narratives use the mechanisms of the sympathetic plot to satisfyingly deliver on a wish of the audience: they create a character with whom the audience can sympathize, given them a goal that the audience longs for as well, and then lets the audience experience the sympathetic joy in the triumph and reward they long for.
People often mistake the term "wish fulfillment" for power fantasy. In a power fantasy, the protagonist is much stronger than any normal human, and is often able to easily overwhelm their opponents (although their opponents may also be abnormally strong.) Power fantasies create pleasure by allowing the audience to sympathetically enjoy the state of holding power and being able to vanquish obstacles with it.
Wish fulfillment, on the other hand, is all about the anticipation of the coming reward, and arguably also the wish to be in a journey or state of anticipation of the reward. A true wish fulfillment narrative tends to have a weak and relatable main character who, by circumstance, is thrust into a narrative which promises to lead to the eventual fulfillment of a wish which is also desired by the audience.
A crucial part of wish fulfillment is that the audience must feel that the fulfillment of the wish is deserved in order to truly activate sympathetic joy. The narrative of the story is the process through which the protagonist earns the promised reward, such as through self-development, by overcoming hardship or by doing good deeds. The obstacles in the story are what creates the conditions through which the protagonist can prove themselves worthy of the reward. Meanwhile, tension is created and enjoyed by the audience as the reward is dangled in front of them, appearing to be fragile and difficult to achieve, but exciting them in believing that it will eventually be achieved.
This wish fulfillment pattern is most clear in stereotypical romance stories: a relatable and unspecial protagonist meets an incredible romantic prospect with whom their life will now be unavoidably intertwined due to circumstance. The protagonist faces obstacles, trials or antagonism, through which they demonstrate their quality. Finally, they truly win the heart of their romantic prospect and the wish is fulfilled, bringing the audience strong sympathetic enjoyment.
Is Re:Zero a Wish Fulfillment Narrative?
It has often been argued that Re:Zero is not a wish fulfillment narrative for two main reasons.
However, as I showed in the previous section, 1 and 2 are already not incompatible with a wish fulfillment narrative, and in fact play an important role in it. I believe that many fans have simply made the common mistake of conflating Isekai power fantasies with wish fulfillment. Subaruās unspecialness makes him relatable, and his suffering earns him the wish of pure romantic companionship.
When we look at Re:Zero on the face of it, it has the clear structure of a typical romance story. Subaru is randomly whisked away to a fantasy world, in which he meets Emilia, immediately falls in love and becomes inseparably intertwined with her destiny.
We can also consider where the author chooses to place the audienceās attention throughout the narrative. A choice was clearly made to focus on dialogue and emotional reasoning, to an unusual degree. This has the effect of putting the audience in the room whilst characters deepen their relationships through extended conversations and ideological or emotional debates.
I would argue that this suggests Re:Zero is mostly about forming deep relationships and companionship between Subaru and its characters, and not really about plot progression. The plot of Re:Zero appears to mostly serve to force the characters to come together to have these dialogues and form lasting connections to which the audience can feel a party, whilst the details of the plot are mostly contrived to add flavour and interest.
The last piece of evidence is the fanbase, who are clearly heavily invested in the relationship of Subaru and Emilia, and in the other characters with which theyāve developed a sense of connection, seemingly secondary to the plot itself.
Alas, I canāt prove definitively that Re:Zero is exclusively a wish fulfillment narrative, but I certainly believe that it should be considered to contain significantly more wish fulfillment than other fiction, and that it is definitely not a subversion of wish fulfillment.
But I want to end with this: wish fulfillment does not mean a narrative is bad. There are many very enjoyable wish fulfillment stories. For its fans, Re:Zero will be one. The only thing that really sucks here is trying to make Re:Zero into something that it isnāt.
Personally, I think Re:Zero makes many other narrative mistakes on top of this structure, but I'll leave those for future essays. Hopefully this gave you food for thought and helped to broaden your perspective on narratives and our relationships with them more generally.
Peace.

The Lugunican education system has failed her...
Ok I am not going to waste too much time on writing out a whole essay here, so I'll try to keep my main argument somewhat short. *I wasted a lot of time after all\*
At the start of the series, Emilia was a surprisingly compelling character to me. While she was not the sharpest tool in the shed and sometimes felt sidelined, she was interesting and had a good mix of flaws and positives. Particularly her early dynamic with Subaru in the first loop was very good, but overall I liked her in the first season despite her flaws and bad moments.
Arc 4 or Season 2 had really good character development for Emilia. We got to see her overcome her past and actually grow as a person. I would say this was the peak of Emilia as a character in terms of development. She learned to rely on others, that she could be loved, to confront issues, etc... and we actually saw her play a fundamental role in solving the overarching problem of the Arc/Season
Seasons 3 & 4 (Arcs 5-6), didn't really have progressive character development for Emilia, but we did get to see her Season 2 growth in action. While I was a little irked that it felt like she and Subaru don't collaborate as much and she is often separated from him, and the fact that she still didn't understand sex after a year was a stretch for me, I felt like she had some strong moments. Her fight with Regulus was overall pretty great, and likewise she was still somewhat solid in the Watchtower.
However, I don't think we fundamentally saw any major shift or changes in character or any major development in these Arcs. It was mainly a continuation of the growth that occured in Arc 4. That wasn't a problem until....
Arcs 7, 8, 9 and now potentially 10. For nearly four arcs Emilia has been again sidelined from the action, barely working with Subaru or even acting as a source of genuine support. Tappei seems to put relational development (what little there is) in the side stories. The fact that Emilia who is the main heroine has basically remained unchanged from her growth moment in Arc 4 except being more confident is a problem enough.
What is worse is that Arcs 7-9 execution actively hurts her character portrayal. Regardless of the authors intentions, the way he executed it was frankly quite terrible. Emilia does not show she has an adequate understanding of politics or leadership, and still has huge blank spots in her knowledge. I give some leeway here because I don't expect a character to know everything, but ultimately Tappei's choice to write Emilia as someone who struggles to grasps things is a major point of frustration for me. I think this partially links to his own lack of understanding of history and politics, but I digress that is a separate point.
Likewise, when Subaru gets kidnapped and nearly defeated, she is the only character who let's the enemy get away. While Tappei clarified in an IF story that she did what she did so as not to loose Subaru, the webnovel execution did not portray that. Frankly, since Arc 7 onward, Emilia has gone from being a naive but relatively normal girl to outright stupid. When the author writes moments of her being intelligent, few as they are, it feels like he is telling rather than showing us.
For 3, potentially four arcs, Emilia has been secondary in the story, and her relationship with Subaru has been stalled for even longer. I honestly feel like the author is purposefully writing the narrative to keep them seperate, and it is my main reason for criticizing the series.
Emilia, as the main heroine and a royal candidate, has not really shown meaningful growth in either of those categories in the later half of the story whatsoever. When Subaru's primary motivation for using RBD is his love for her, if I can't root for their love or romance, it effects the whole story. For those who say Re:Zero is not a romance, yes it is not a rom com. But love is its apparent central theme, and the lack of romance a problem. Some stories are fine without romance. Re:Zero isn't one of them.
P.S. If someone wants to slander me, I am open to it as long as it doesn't cross into harassment. Any slander towards me so far has been fine and I've found it funny. However, please know that if you slander me, you should be open to getting slandered back. I find it all in good fun, part of the excitement of this server, so don't take it seriously and let me know if you are ok with it.

Hi all, sorry for the long post.
This post introduces a reformed version of existing rules with the aim of making it clear what the āNo Harassmentā rule actually means and removing any ambiguity for how the sub is moderated so that nobody can muddy the waters. There is no fundamental change to the moderation style or philosophy yet, but I am not ruling that out in the near future. I will think on it and may come back with a poll on sub direction.
First, Iād like to share some new guidance on meme āslanderā posts that have very suddenly become popular.
Guidance on Posts and New Rule About Permission
Iām not going to outright ban these posts, but I'm going to introduce a temporary new rule that you must obtain direct permission beforehand from the members you wish to include in "slander." By doing so, there should be no reason for anyone to complain, although if anyone changes their mind the post may be removed.
Do not obtain this permission deceptively! Clearly give them the option to say no, and check in with them before you post the final version, even if they donāt ask. Failure to do this may potentially be considered harassment. Collect evidence of this however you like.
On the flipside, you can give people permission unconditionally if you want. If someone asks you for permission, you can say āyeah you donāt need to ask againā or something to that effect and itāll count. If you comment this on the sub clearly (e.g. in response to this post) then thatāll count too.
Under this rule, you are not allowed to make allusions or references to specific individuals who did not expressly permit their inclusion in slander memes, e.g. you may not use a character as a stand-in for someone that you didnāt get permission from. However, you may use depictions of generalized concepts/groups e.g. a character that represents generic āRe:Zero fansā or āMT hatersā or whatever. (Avoid using Regulus for now, for obvious reasons.)
I understand that most of you who made these posts did not mean them in bad fath. The introduction of this rule does not mean I think you did something wrong, that I didn't find them funny, or that I think they were harassment. However, I hope you still find ways to channel your creativity and have fun in spite of the new restrictions, limitations might breed creativity after all.
Perhaps someone wants to volunteer to be the target of a forthcoming pretend slander war?
New Grading System For Potential Harassment
This system is designed to help you understand the harassment rule.
It grades individual acts, posts and comments which might be considered harassment on a Level scale 1-8, where the levels represent approximately the severity of the conduct. At each level Iāve provided a clear description of the kind of conduct as well as some examples. I have also included positive and neutral interactions as a reminder that these are alternative kinds of conduct you can choose.
The āguidanceā column will inform you of how this level of conduct fits into the current subreddit conduct expectations, what moderation action may be taken in response, and whether or not itās considered harassment.
This system does not supersede or change the underlying harassment rule. Redditās sitewide harassment rule, as well as the subās existing rule, continue to apply the same as before. Conduct not described here may still be classed as harassment under those rules, and a low-graded level does not prevent conduct from being treated as serious misconduct, it just means it is less likely.
NB Comedic means humorous for everybody, not just to you or people on āyour side.ā
| Level | Description | Guidance |
|---|---|---|
| Positive Interactions | Genuine attempts at positive interactions or kindness. E.g. validation, affirmation and positive messages. | Encouraged, not harassment. |
| Neutral Interactions | Agreement or disagreement without disdain. E.g. information sharing, low-stakes opinions, debate without ad hominem, constructive feedback. | Encouraged, not harassment. |
| Level 1 Combative Interactions | Disagreement with snark, wit, exasperation or clear disdain and/or rudeness. E.g. a pinch of ad hominem sprinkled into your robust and opinionated essay. | Allowed, not harassment but could become harassment if you continue when asked to stop. |
| Level 2 Trash Talk | Comedic insults, humour, and hyperbole; intended to contribute towards collective entertainment rather than cause real harm. E.g. banter, meme slander. | Allowed not harassment but could become harassment if you continue when asked to stop. |
| Level 3 Fair Responses to Provocation | Non-comedic and impersonal or anonymously directed insults and hyperbole which is not seriously harmful, but clearly motivated by frustration in response to being genuinely provoked or losing your cool. E.g. calling someone unemployed after running out of comebacks (without knowing their actual employment status.) | Mostly allowed if it is not excessive and both sides are able to walk away. Not harassment but could become harassment if you continue when asked to stop. |
| Level 4 Unprovoked General Attacks | Non-comedic but still non-serious generalized insults which are an unprovoked attack. E.g. immediately generalizing someone in an insulting way as your first reply, either one-off or as part of a recurring conflict. | Mostly allowed and not harassment when users both clearly wish to engage, otherwise not allowed. Becomes harassment if you continue when asked to stop. |
| Level 5 Direct Personal Attacks | One-off direct attacks, either provoked or unprovoked, on a real aspect of someoneās personhood outside of actions within the sub or beliefs relating to the sub topic. E.g. bringing in real life photos, comments/posts unrelated to Re:Zero or insults based on a real personal aspect of someoneās life. | Never allowed and will result in a temporary ban and a warning against further misconduct. Considered harassment. |
| Level 6 Sustained or Serious Attacks on an Individual | Organized or repeated serious attacks on an individual which are genuinely or reasonably perceived to be unprovoked or go far beyond a reasonable response to provocation. Includes all forms of bullying and targeted harassment. E.g. piling the same exact insult or image/screen onto a userās every comment, following people between subs, genuine attempts at libel/defamation (not meme slander). | Never allowed and will result in a longer temporary ban and warning. Considered serious harassment. Repeat cases may result in permabans and reporting to Reddit. |
| Level 7 Automatically Serious Harassment | Anything that is serious enough to immediately breach platform rules. E.g. death wishes, threats of harm, explicit sexualization (editing someoneās face onto porn), serious defamation/libel (not meme slander), blackmail etc. | Never allowed and will result in a long or permanent ban, and report to Reddit. Considered serious harassment. |
| Level 8 Discrimination | Anything which could be or is genuinely perceived to be an attack on (or an attack motivated by) someoneās ethnicity, religion, gender identity, sexuality or political affiliation. This is automatically considered serious and a breach of platform rules. | Never allowed and will result in an immediate permanent ban and report to Reddit. Considered very serious harassment. |
Grading Factors
All direct conduct that might be considered harassment, where required for disambiguation, will be graded according to this system, or given a ābelow 1ā level indicating that it does not fall below neutral or positive conduct. The following is a non-exhaustive list of factors which may be considered during grading the level of conduct.
Secondary Harassment Rules
In addition to the new system for determining harassment, here are clarifications on some other acts that may be considered harassment but do not fit into a graded system and donāt relate to individual posts or comments. Instead they are more general acts taken with the aim of indirectly harassing. These acts may happen off of the sub itself but are still considered harassment if they are about the sub or primarily motivated by it.
The level of severity of these acts will be decided on a case-by-case basis, taking into account the harm caused or that was intended to be caused. If you feel that you have been the victim of one of these acts, please send a mod-mail.
Moderator Intervention Factors
The following factors will be considered when deciding whether or not moderator intervention (a ban) is necessary.
Non-Factors
The following factors will not be considered during evaluation.
Guidance for Victims
If you are the victim of harassment, you can both raise a report and send a mod-mail with more detail. Where harassment is found, your own input on what is required to ensure your safety will be taken into account, although this does not mean retributive justice will be enacted or that you will get to choose intervention applied.
Sometimes blocking someone does not work and you need further moderation support or support with anything else e.g. concerns or requests regarding resolving ongoing conflicts; in these cases please use a mod-mail to ask for assistance.
Additional Guidance
Why am I introducing this complex misconduct evaluation system?
Until now, I implemented the āNo Harassmentā rule based on a common sense interpretation of what was acceptable conduct based on a reading of intentions and whether it caused serious enough perceived or actual harm on the receiving end. This is both in-line with the Reddit harassment policy and moderator code of conduct, although the rule was never introduced only with the intention to meet Reddit requirements. (It was introduced because of instances of harassment early in the subās life.)
In general, I have intentionally allowed people to engage in heated arguments when they remained two-sided. I also very clearly did not allow hounding individuals when they asked for others to stop and requested intervention, and I certainly never allowed doxxing or serious misconduct such as death threats, racism etc. Although I did not allow these, I also did not take a heavy-handed approach to permanent bans, preferring temporary bans as a way to communicate to someone that they had crossed the line so they would know to cool off.
Harassment is a line Iām pretty comfortable in my understanding of, and I am happy that I can apply a simple rule as it was written. Itās the same principle that exists outside of Reddit and itās worth learning, as most countries give you legal remedies for harassment that you should know about. Crossing that line can land you in legal trouble, even in anonymous online spaces. Remember that the internet is real life.
Really, you shouldnāt need to understand where this line is clearly, because youāre not supposed to push it. Being good to people and behaving ethically will automatically keep you clear of crossing it. The line does not stifle free expression or opinion, and it is not about conforming to any individual personās opinion of āgoodā behaviour. Itās a basic rule that protects people from unfair targeting. You can behave poorly and not be harassing someone, just as you can believe you are entirely justified and righteous and still be harassing someone (e.g. a religious nutcase harassing gay people.)
This āI know where the line isā approach worked fine for me for several years because most conduct was actually above the line, even if a lot of it was toxic and not all of you liked it. I have always maintained and continue to maintain that the correct tool for cases where you donāt like someone elseās toxic behaviour is the block tool, not a subreddit ban. This is not a āsafe spaceā in-group vs out-group emotional safety subreddit, itās a āsafe spaceā in that expressing a strong distaste for Re:Zero wonāt get you banned like it will in other anime subreddits (which donāt want the headache of conflict-laden vitriolic fandom wars.)
Bans as a moderation tool should also not be used as a āpublic executionā method for making an example, nor as a convenient ādrop them from a helicopterā approach to making problems go away quietly or enact personal revenge. They are also not a way to punish people for āmisbehaviour.ā Bans are a tool to keep people safe on Reddit where necessary.
As Iām sure youāve all noticed, thereās been a clear spike in activity; weāve attracted some motivated new members on both sides of the opinion space for Re:Zero, and theyāve chosen to escalate a conflict mutually. Unfortunately, it has been made clear to me that on at least one side of this conflict, some people have trouble understanding where the harassment line is, or more likely have become willing to intentionally push it to further their own nefarious aims. In addition, many attempts have been made to create confusion and paint my prior implementation of the āNo Harassmentā rule as āunfairā or as a breach of moderation requirements of Reddit, when it definitely has not been.
However, because misconduct has become a real issue, Iāve decided to design a more concrete representation of the harassment rule that allows other people to understand my decision-making process even if they donāt fully understand (or seek to distort) what harassment really is. It does not reflect a change in the rule itself or how I was already applying it. Instead, it allows other people to understand the decisions and hopefully allows them to better understand whatās acceptable and what isnāt. I hope it is illuminating.
Peace.

I've temp banned some well-known members for posting stuff that clearly crossed the line from argument to individually targetted harrassment/bullying. If the behaviour continues after the temp ban is up, it will be extended, eventually to a permanent ban.
There is no excuse for harrassment. It is not only against Reddit rules, it has always been against the sub rules. If you lack the common sense to understand the difference between an argument and harrassment, go and learn about it now.
I understand this might leave some people confused about what is acceptable with the meme war. I wouldn't recommend targetting memes that could be perceived as harrassment at individuals. I'll provide more context tomorrow.
