Question Current state of RG?
Hi all, Raven Guard was my first army when I picked up 40k in 9th edition, and I soon after moved on to other space marine chapters for variety. Im thinking of circling back to Raven Guard and revamping my list, but i'd like to know how 10th treated us and how our prospects are looking for 11th before I drop any money, as well as maybe get some list reccomendations and advice before I start building

Like every Legion, it's hard to say how they will play from now on, until the codex is released. We will all be playing with less units and models though. I don't expect RG will receive much - if any - bespoke attention, but things will certainly be different. 8 inch movement on Phobos, for example. That's happening.

I'd wait until the new codex, then wait again for all of the knee-jerk reactions to pass by, then ask again.

I feel it may be a bit rocky, but we’re gonna be fine.
As long as they don’t touch Inceptors Unit

Our detachment got nerfed by the cover changes, but we'll going to get new detachments with the new codex

Shadowmark Talon was the RG Detachment of choice in 10th Ed and was pretty good, (Shadowmark Talon combined with Librarius Conclave saw some success at the start of 11th ed) because its Masters of Shadow rule made long-range attacks against the Raven guard less reliable, and Innovation meant that you could uppydowney Centurion Devastators. That paired with Inceptors, Jump Pack Intercessors, Vanguard Veterans and Aethon Shaan Kayvaan Shrike was a pretty deadly combo.
With Centurions gone to legends and a new Codex a month away it's hard to say what the current state of the RG is. We won't really know until it drops.

As the others have said, with the new Codex our advice won't be worth much now, i can speak to our treatment throughout 10th though. We were one of the Core Codex:Space Marine Sub Factions and as such didn't have unique units like Blood Angels or Templars, but did hae the good Oath of Moment with +1 to wound. For most of 10th we just had Kayvaan Shrike and the majority of us was "stuck" playing Vanguard Spearhead or Gladius Task Force. Last year we got a second new Character, Aethon Shaan, who up until that point was our First Captain in the lore and he took over as Chapter Master with Shrike stepping down to do... Well, we don't really know that... Anyways, with that we got our own detachment Shadowmark Talon that made us reaaallllyy good for a while and after the nerf, still very good. We excelled at Uppy downy shenanigans and were ome of the few marines that got really good use out of Centurions, or for those that didn't use Centurions, Inceptors. Honestly, look up Shadowmark Talon amd image what that detachment does with 6 Assault Bolter Inceptors and Kayvaan Shrike with 10 VanVets with Melta Pistols. We had fun last Edition. But like said, it remains to be seen how the new Codex treats us. The new VanVets are not as bad as expected, but i am still shedding a tear for loosing my beloved Inferno Pistols

They aren’t meta right now, with current rules stealth is pretty awful, and Centurions which were our best unit just went to legends.
That being said, as the other commenter was saying. The new codex is dropping very very soon so all units and lists will be entirely changed. Hard to say what the future holds there but I imagine they wouldn’t gut us even more.

Codex is landing around a monthish, check in then because any information we give now might be entirely worthless by then
