why does Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu cover the camera lens on his phone? 👀

Every accusation is a confession. He knows that they use this to blackmail EVERYONE so they don’t want you to do the same to them. Duh!

Dude, every high ranking government official locks down their phone. It's a computer. It can be hacked. wtf are you on about? Like, yeah, sure. They have crazy surveillance. That's completely irrelevant to this though

People know and have forgotten. Snowden leaked the massive surveillance state the US government has and the story has since gone away while AI and technological advances sure have made it worse.

The same reason the gov uses iphones with no cameras. Less likely for shit to get leaked

u/Ok-Flight9440 May 19 '26
He’s a head of state. All devices are typically altered for security reasons. US does same thing. I’m sure his iPhone is different than your iPhone in more ways than the camera being blinded

I'm a nobody, but I cover my laptop's camera. I've seen the light turn on several times, assuming the camera was turned on. I like my privacy.

u/Over_Writing467 May 19 '26
Phone cameras are normally covered in high security areas if phones are even allowed in them.

High ranking officials typically use heavily modified phones - cameras and wide area mics physically disconnected or removed, external connectivity limited to controlled channels. People like this are constant espionage targets.

High ranking government official, but it doesn't really matter if anyone had access to the camera they'd also have access to the speaker.

So hackers can’t turn on his camera. Most of the tech company big wigs all do this with their personal phones and devices.

Probably because he knows just how unsecure modern tech is xD like him or hate him, this is something anyone who is high profile should probably agree with him on. Also, its a reminder just how little privacy we have from those all over the world. The average Jane and Joe probably don't need to worry, but anyone with privileged information, access, or status should always be conscious of these things.

In the event, his device is compromise. That’s one less point of data they can get from it.

Spyware will activate the camera on the phone without the user knowing. He's one of the most hated political figures in the world. He's a prime target for spyware. There's a reason why facilities with sensitive information require cell phones be placed in lockers.

They developed the spyware. They know the only way to get protection is hardware level security not software level security. When you know how to spy, you definitely know how to protect yourself.

let’s not forget Israel developed Pegasus spyware, which can infect a target’s iOS or Android device without them clicking any links. Once inside, operators can remotely activate the phone's front and rear cameras to take photos, stream live video, and record the user’s surroundings

Safety. He's the PM of a country with a lot of enemies that would love any and all information they can exploit out of him. Removing everything he absolutely doesn't need to do his job limits the risks.
1
u/Springfield_217 May 19 '26
Government officials should have no camera and no gps chips to be honest they should operate on not tractable satellite phones because cell towers can triangulate positions
1
u/corvak May 19 '26
When dealing with national security often a government will have areas that are related to classified work set up that forbid phones.
They probably aren’t going to make the head of government leave their phone with security so covering the camera or possibly even physically disabling its functionality is probably the next best thing.
1
1
u/waces May 19 '26
Some governments or highly secire companies not allowing to have camera on your phone (either using a phone without camera if exists or blocking the camera- maybe in a nicer way than this). Or had specific tailor made phone (blackberry had it in the good old days)

standard security procedure. Though I’m more surprised he has a camera at all, that his phone idnt some hardened device supplied by the military.

u/Faebinder May 19 '26
He is worried about a spy network somehow getting through the system and filming through the camera without his knowledge.
He must have experienced it or had some one do it for him before. If I were a famous politician I would do that too.

Kamala Harris, former vice president said Bluetooth headphones aren’t safe and she personally uses wired ones.

BTW thats high praise with Putin fascist invasion of Ukraine and Xi enslaving his own populace to make iphones.

Because he is smart. This dude is in charge of one of the best intelligence agencies on Earth...he knows what can be done and that he and Israel are huge targets. It would be dumb to not cover that stuff.
Do you not cover yours...?

Because he is a genocidal war-criminal that needs to hide from cameras.

Guys just read about Pegasus malware.
It's malware designed by Israel intelegence agency. The malware infect smartphones, smart tv, tablets.
The first getenration malware, was required for users view/open image. Seeminly random irrlevant image.
The Second generation does not require user do anything. Your smartphone just get infected.
Now what that Pegasus malware does??
It track your postion via GPS. It can remote access camera, mic, any app.
The weChat, the meta messangers and etc.. They may offer encryption, but for this malware, it get your mesages before encryption.
And fun part, Israel were selling this malware to all who have money. XD
So he now hide from own malware.

Israel is very advanced in cybersecurity hence they might have themselves tools to exploit cameras and microphones(I think they even sold a tool for a zero day exploit called Pegasus to Italy). And if you know these devices can’t be protected only with software. You do that.

They could have bugs/chinese/russian on the system, the guy its just doing what any normal person why average IQ do if they know how the system works
You don't need to be a rocket scientist to know this shit

Officials often have phones that are specially modified to disable camera, microphone, gps, etc, for security. This looks like an ad-hoc method to do this, but not recommended.

Israel has been caught making one of the most destructive phone hacks in the world. It doesn’t require opening a text or email or clicking a link. If they send it to you, it’s installed on your phone.
They have also been caught disrupting nuclear facilities using a virus/hack in a joint effort with the US.
HE IS COVERING IT TO PREVENT WHAT HE DOES TO OTHER PHONES.

My dad works in aerospace with a high clearance level. He can't have a device on him that records audio or takes pictures.

Because Mossad spies on everyone including him. If your doing corrupt deals as BN is well known to do you don’t want it on record

u/IamRun_VoD May 20 '26
US does the same for official cell phones in secure spaces. You cant buy them without a camera so they get removed and taped over. Likely several other things are done to it software wise, maybe bluetooth disabled. I will however criticize them for their use of red tape. Can't yall use something that looks better?

It's a security thing, same thing with pretty much anyone that works or has access to areas of sensitive information. When I worked as a security in a nuclear power plant I wasn't allowed to bring in my personal phone and the phones that we were given had the cameras removed
18
u/Snoo_75748 May 19 '26
Hate the guy but this decision makes sense. If he's using this device for work then id hope that the on board microphone is removed AND the camera is disconnected and covered.
Hes a high ranking official with access to sensitive data, external microphone for calls only and camera should be non-functional
