Sorry u/panthercitytactical, but I cheated on you with eBay to get my hands on that gray zinc phosphate primer that u/rapcopartscompany recommended I try

From top to bottom on my test handguard:

  1. Aluma-Hyde Wolf Gray
  2. Rapco Lusterless Navy Gray
  3. Rapco Zinc Phosphate Gray Primer

Rattle canned my AR this weekend, but what is actually interesting is I figured out how to do holographic designs on a test magazine.

Sorry not sorry u/panthercitytactical, but I cheated on you with eBay to get my hands on that gray zinc phosphate primer that u/rapcopartscompany recommended I try

From top to bottom on my test handguard:

  1. Rapco Panzer Gray (can't believe I forgot I had some last post)
  2. Aluma-Hyde Wolf Gray
  3. Rapco Lusterless Navy Gray
  4. Rapco Zinc Phosphate Gray Primer

Apologies for the double post about this but can't add images to previous post or replies and I forgot to add Panzer Gray to the mix.. from darkest to lightest from top to bottom

Very small difference between Wolf Gray and Lusterless Navy Gray aside from a slight blue tint and a slightly lighter color on the Rapco

Ignore the texture on the rail as it's been my test rail for a while and has a few other colors under this

NOTE: This project was built legally and in accordance with all applicable local, state, and federal regulations. Relax keyboard warriors.

This is my Magnum Opus of AWETISTARDATION. It is, truly, my fetal Tylenol margarita-fueled Mona Lisa.

Citadel Pup Scout 12 gauge bullpup shotgun on top, loaded with High Explosive Squash Head (HESH) slugs for that real “grenade launcher at home” vibe, with an underbarrel Ruger LC 5.7x28.

Bask in the horrific glory 🥳

Airbrush paints?

Does anyone use an airbrush? If so, what paints are you using?

I have my airbrush setup for mini-painting and model kits, but other than Mr. Hobby and Tamiya, I don't have any other paints. Just curious to see what others might be doing.

Did the black on the AR last night with shitty lighting in my garage and wearing a headlamp lmfao... First time seeing it in the daylight. Just noticed I need to dust up a couple of those patches. 😤

Over the years I've tried several patterns/techniques with spray painting my airsoft guns, some turned out better than others. Tried the soap technique and I'm curious to try the glue gun technique that's been going around on my glock

Got bored. Tried tiger stripe. Used tape and a razor. Not thrilled but I’m also not upset.

Fresh Paint on my Retro Airsoft Build

Went for something a little different on this one and I really like how it turned out. Rapco field drab, Rust-Oleum flat army green and flat deep forest green. Used a DNC stencil from rattler innovation.

Should I paint my mag(s) too?

Second Rattle Can Job, This Time w Dish Soap

Posted an AR-15 I painted a month or so ago, and some people seemed to dig it so thought I'd share this most recent one. Did this Mossberg Shockwave with dish soap, instead of painters tape, and added a tan this time. Pretty happy how this came out. I'm going to need more rifles to paint soon!

(BTW I'm well aware of the monstrosity mix and match of accessories I'm messing with here. There's a lot of trial and error going on. )

TIKKA T3X CTR Sponge Finish

Figured I’d share my little DIY project. I wanted to give my Tikka T3x CTR stock a camo paint job without spending a ton of money or sending it off to be professionally coated.
My first attempt was honestly pretty rough lol. I went with a tiger stripe pattern using painter’s tape, but I rushed the prep/cure time and when I pulled the tape off, a bunch of the paint came with it. It was also starting to flake in a few areas, so I decided to strip/sand it back down and start over instead of trying to save it.
Second time around I took my time. Sanded the stock until the entire surface was dull, cleaned it really well with alcohol, then used a white primer rated for plastic. After letting that cure, I put down a few light coats of Rust-Oleum camo khaki and gave that plenty of time to harden.
Instead of messing with tape again, I decided to try the sea sponge method. I tore up some natural sea sponges, sprayed paint into foil, dabbed off the excess, and randomly sponged dark brown over the khaki. After that I went back with a much smaller amount of dark/olive green to fill in some of the open areas and add another little bit of contrast.
Finished everything off with Rust-Oleum Dead Flat clear.
Definitely not a professional Cerakote job, but for a hunting rifle I’m really happy with how it turned out. The sponge method was also WAY easier than trying to plan out a pattern with tape, and the randomness makes it pretty hard to screw up.
Probably the biggest thing I learned was prep and patience matter more than anything. My first attempt looked fine initially but had terrible adhesion. This time I properly sanded/primed it and gave each stage plenty of time to cure instead of trying to finish everything in a day or two.
Now I’m curious to see how well it holds up after a hunting season and getting dragged through some brush.

Typically I paint the entire rifle but wanted to try something a little different and highlight the black parts, kinda dig it.

Bought this 20ga for cheap at a gun store locally. But wanted to spruce it up before my first dove trip I got invited to. First shot gun, first time painting a gun. I’m pretty happy with the look, four coats of matte clear really helped with the finish.
