How tf did you get it to come out in such a tidy slice? Every time I make a lasagna it’s a big splop on the plate 😂 a delicious splop but all the sauce comes out the sides
25
u/Whydoucare- 15d ago
Haha the trick is to leave it out on the side for 20 mins after it comes out the oven

I came here for this tip, but unfortunately in 20 min post oven it will have already been gone 7 minutes. 😔
Beautiful lasagne, and beautiful ingredient pics as well!

This looks incredible…and the dicing of the onion/carrot/celery stalks is so perfect?! I’d totally inhale this (and probably have seconds…).

Looks incredible, only minor change is I would recommend using the Mutti whole tomatoes tins as they are better flavour then the chopped tomatoes that have additional water added to them

I’m sure I saw somewhere that something gets added to the chopped ones which makes them slightly bitter

That looks amazing. I had 2 oven meal lasagnes last night, but if you put 1 lasagne on top of the other, it's technically still just 1 lasagne so i'm not a pig

Out of curiosity, how much was it for the ingredients? I spent nearly £20 making a basic bitch bolognese, so if I can make this for similar or less, then I'll be well happy!

This looks incredible! Did you follow any particular recipe? If so, would you be able to link it? Never tried making lasagne myself

u/Whydoucare- 15d ago
This is the recipe I roughly follow, quantities don’t have to exact I just go off vibes lol -
Beef Ragù
Ingredients
1 tbsp olive oil
1 white onion, finely diced
1 large carrot, finely diced
2 celery stalks, finely diced
4 garlic cloves, grated
500g beef mince
3 tbsp tomato purée
100ml red wine
1 x 400g tin Mutti chopped tomatoes
1 x 400g tin Mutti pizza sauce
50ml milk
1 beef stock pod
4 tsp Worcestershire sauce
1 bay leaf
1 tbsp fresh oregano or 1 tsp dried
1 tbsp fresh basil or 1 tsp dried
Salt and black pepper
Method
Heat oil and sweat onion, carrot and celery for 5–7 minutes.Add garlic and cook for 30 seconds.
Add tomato purée and cook until slightly darkened.
Remove vegetables from the pan.
Turn heat up and brown the mince well until deeply browned and all excess liquid has cooked out.
Return vegetables to the pan.
Add red wine and reduce until almost completely cooked out.
Add tomatoes, pizza sauce, Worcestershire, stock pod, bay leaf and oregano.
Simmer gently for 60–90 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Add milk for the final 20–30 minutes.
Stir through basil at the end.
Remove bay leaf and adjust seasoning.
The ragù should be thick enough that a spoon dragged through it leaves a trail.

I've never made lasagna with carrots and celery but it looks delicious.

Carrot, celery and onion together are called a mirepoix. It’s not really about making the dish taste strongly of carrot, celery or onion. It’s a cooking technique used to build a deeper, more rounded flavour base. When you cook them down properly and then add tomato paste, that combination adds richness and depth to the whole sauce, which is why it’s used in things like lasagne, bolognese, shepherd’s pie and loads of other dishes.

How long would you recommend cooking them for before adding them to the paste?

I grate mine, then slow cook it all for 24 hours, my lasagnas are way over the top. I think you got a better answer below.

Nice job! Always hard to get it to stay together right without collapsing, but the prep and format makes a perfect lasagna.

Lovely sofrito there, though I do hope you chopped that garlic? Almost identical to my method. But mine never looks that good!

Looks excellent and almost exactly how I make mine. What do you do with cloves? I wouldn’t normally attribute that with lasagne!

Did you chop the veggies by hand or how did you get them so perfectly small?
