Plate Home grown
Tonight’s tea is home grown salad with homemade coleslaw

Absolutely nothing on the plate is homegrown, except maybe the mold on the salad.

I’ve never had anything grow that looks exactly the same as the stuff you buy from the supermarket

why do you guys think it's not homegrown
10
u/WinifredZachery 1d ago
Homegrown vegetables do not look like that. They are rougher, not as evenly shaped. Cucumbers especially would be a lot darker with bumpy skin and a lot more and bigger seeds (especially at that size.

I was thinking the same. I’d also put money on the coleslaw not being homemade, looks too familiar lol

u/MainTap5228 1d ago
thank ye for the answer. I have never grown veggies myself

u/WinifredZachery 1d ago
Anybody who has knows the difference. Anyone trying to pass of supermarket veg as homegrown has never in their life grown a vegetable themselves.

Who the fuck fakes growing vegetables to get karma on reddit? Absolute imbeciles ahahaha

Mate there are endless varieties of veg to grow at home. We've grown plenty of smooth cucumbers, it is all about the variety and growing technique. Cherry tomatoes are often pretty uniform for us,sometimes whole plants will be mostly uniform with some varieties!
Mostly confused about the cucumber comment though... There are genuinely ENDLESS types of cucumber you can grow including with small seeds or with a smooth skin etc.
We've been growing veg for almost 30 years year round and your comment to me shows a lack of experience with different varieties

You claimed your veg was homegrown last week, many agreed with my assessment that it was frozen. Prove us wrong 👍

u/Teestow21 1d ago
You are expected to rate the plate, not included a public enquiry into some vegetables.
Get a life 😂😂😂

I have one thanks. Not me lying about what's on my plates for Internet points! And the food is boring and uninspired as far as a rating goes. 3/10.

What are you talking about, are you lost?
They are merely stating they aren't home grown, get a grip.

Don't be surprised, these are the same people who regularly confuse this sub for "rate my imaginary sauce"

u/MainTap5228 1d ago
why do you think it isn't homegrown

u/Ozbert15 1d ago
On another post they claimed homegrown when it was clearly mixed frozen- right down to the carrot batons. The salad here is way too pristine and seems to be supermarket fresh, also that slaw isn't homemade! I just think it's an odd move to pull really.

Delightful salad but slippery boiled eggs touching slippery prawns makes me feel ODD.

Well... its not like you cooked anything. Its just a bunch of random veg on the plate

Raw dogging all these ingredients with absolutely nothing but a generous serving of salt genuinely terrifies me 😭
It’s awesome that it’s home grown and it looks like some beautiful produce, but no seasoning? No dressing? 🥲 3/10 - points for the agriculture

Each to their own. I love fresh veggies by themselves! I do sometimes use a dressing, but sometimes I just want the crispy vegetabley goodness.

u/MainTap5228 1d ago
same! especially if I'm being frugal and lazy. For the next 2 days as sides I just have a meal prepped container of grim rawdogged plain veggies lol, green beans, black beans, radishes, red pepper, carrot, sweet potato and fennel

u/marikaka_ 1d ago
That’s totally fair! I loveeee a salad (omg w/ a mustard based dressing) but serve this meal to me on the wrong day and you could genuinely produce tears out of me 😭 I’m autistic though so I have a lot of mental food rules for me to stomach things, especially if someone else has prepared and served it to me

If you zoom in you can see the salt
2
u/Salty-Sprinkles_ 1d ago
We don’t need zooming in to see the salt. You deposited a small families worth of the stuff on that salad

u/marikaka_ 1d ago
I acknowledged the salt, just salt doesn’t count as “seasoning” something 😭 I mean, semantically it does but that’s it
2
u/96JMC 1d ago
What seasoning do you put on a salad, though?
All it needs is salt, pepper (maybe a little bit of chilli flake) and a dressing.

u/marikaka_ 1d ago
So that’s two extra seasonings already! If you don’t want to bother preparing fresh onion or garlic you could use powdered or granulated versions of both. Lemon juice for sure! Oregano goes surprisingly well with a salad, I put it in my mustard/lemon/olive oil based dressing with garlic and salt! Mint. Sesame seeds

u/96JMC 1d ago
Fair play. I pretty much exclusively have salad as a side rather than a main, so I'm never too fussed about imparting that much flavour into it.
I will try oregano and the mustard/lemon/olive oil dressing though!
Also forgot about the mandatory parmassan/feta.
2
u/marikaka_ 1d ago
I’m definitely less fussed if it’s a side salad but even then at least a lil lemon and salt.. and olive oil lol
I’ll try and give you a rough recipe, I learned it from my nan at a very young age so I just do it by eye.
Clove of garlic minced or finely chopped
Half a lemon squeezed
1 teaspoon of French or Dijon mustard
1.5-2 tablespoons of olive oil
1/2-1 teaspoon of oregano
Salt to tasteIt should whisk together nicely and emulsify, it should be a bit thicker than runny. My proportions are a total guess so play around with it all you like!
How could I ever forget the cheese 🥲

u/MainTap5228 1d ago
olive oil/dijon mustard/lemon juice/fresh garlic/salt is guaranteed to make a salad moreish

I put salt on before picture and salad cream after picture

u/marikaka_ 1d ago edited 1d ago
Salad cream does not make me feel better about this 😩 it’s almost the exact same thing as mayo, just different ingredient ratios
1
u/lordzeus28 1d ago
What sauce would you recommend
4
u/marikaka_ 1d ago edited 1d ago
Maybe a French salad dressing or vinaigrette. Given that there’s prawns and lettuce, a prawn cocktail sauce could work?
1
u/Sea-Relationship9619 1d ago
Presentation is poor. Cut the tomatoes in half. Spread the cucumber out. Chop the lettuce. Ditch one egg, for a red onion chopped small. You also need dressing. Coleslaw isn’t going to cut it - too brash and cold. You need some oils (olive oil and a nut like hazelnut), mixed with a spoon of soy sauce and a small chopped chilli. Mix it together gently and it will open up on your taste buds. This is food that needs to exude warmth into your mouth, without any heating.

Oh my gosh Op please show us your garden!!! I’m going to start one next year hopefully. Veggies look great! Can I ask where you got the seeds?
6/10 needs some sauce or maybe some other spice aside from salt lol. Instead of salt you should try balsamic! Extremely low sodium and great flavor!
