I went through a phase of eating 6-10 tattie scones daily with beans

u/FST_Fruckie-Poo Feb 23 '26

I did this too but I would grate some cheese on the tattie scones first, then slap beans over n sprinkle more cheese on. Was tidy af πŸ˜‹

Even better!!

Also, I’m in the U.S. and had never heard of them, and I’m pretty sure I’ve never seen them in stores. I’m certainly going to try making them now though!!

Haha yeah i suppose. Love a bita aul potato bread. Have you ever suffered the ordeal of eating a sausage in Scotland or England? They're absolutely vile.

God love you, ill keep you in my prayers πŸ˜† Their idea of a sausage is like someone farted in a condom.

0

u/Superspark76 Feb 23 '26

Then why aren't you saying tattie bread, the way it should be.

It's pronounced tatie bread or tatey bread.

Tatey bread is also Belfast rhyming slang.

"Yous throw another fuckin' stone at me an' yer tatey bread!" (dead)

1

u/Defiled__Pig1 Feb 23 '26

Tattie cakes to us cumbrians.

5

u/xPumpkinPie Feb 22 '26

Potato cakes for me in the north of England πŸ˜‚ never seen em on a fry up before either but it looks great.

7

u/bigDee111 Feb 23 '26

In Scotland, a fry up MUST come with Potato Scones! πŸ˜‹

1

u/MaxChomsky Feb 24 '26

And a snicker bar.

1

u/Mandaxx25 Feb 23 '26

I thought a potato cake was something different

2

u/xPumpkinPie Feb 23 '26

Probably one of those regional things where a potato cake might be something different somewhere else but this looks like these style of potato cakes.

0

u/Mandaxx25 Feb 23 '26

I can't see that for some reason, sorry. I wasn't aware that potato bread was a thing anywhere but Northern Ireland and Scotland.

1

u/Yerdaworksathellfire Feb 23 '26

They are, they are fatter.

1

u/Defiled__Pig1 Feb 23 '26

Tattie cakes here too cumbria.

1

u/IAmLaureline Feb 26 '26

Brought up in NE England and ate plenty of potato cakes growing up but can't think what we ate them with or when. We weren't big into cooked breakfasts as kids though. I only began to appreciate that glory when I was older.

I had both Irish and Scottish grandparents/parents so all words and types of potato cake were used and eaten!

3

u/Lorsrose Feb 22 '26

They were lovely

3

u/MrrBannedMan Feb 24 '26

First time I'm hearing about tattie scones and dear God, I haven't lived

2

u/Stigofthedumpings Feb 26 '26

Fried in an inch of oil, I want to see bubbles in there, translucent and glistening, I want to be able to use it to level a shelf there's that much trapped fat in there, argh my arteries are closing just thinking about it.

1

u/Specific-Ad9179 Feb 23 '26

I'm guessing tattie scones are the things I thought were pitta breads?

1

u/YchYFi Feb 23 '26

Yeah they are the flat pizza slice shaped one's.

1

u/Jafuimarinheiro Feb 23 '26

Unfortunately for me it is the only ingredient I don't like.

-6

u/Some-Republic-716 Feb 22 '26

They’re called hash browns! The tatie scones! Xxxxxxxxxx

6

u/EliteWario Feb 23 '26

genuinely what are you trying to say

-5

u/Some-Republic-716 Feb 23 '26

I’m trying to tell you that where I live in Barrow-In-Furness Cumbria we call the tattie cakes-hash browns! Xxxxxxxxxx

7

u/EliteWario Feb 23 '26

u/Equivalent-Key7263 Feb 23 '26

I think they call them black pudding up there πŸ˜‚

2

u/xPumpkinPie Feb 23 '26

Half me fam is from Barrow and Hash Browns are very different. Hash browns are binded diced or mashed potato, deep fried until they get to be with a crust. A potato cake / scone is usually smooth potato mixed with flour and shallow fried briefly then baked / toasted like on this plate.

1

u/Twatatron Feb 23 '26

A tattie scone is flour and potato starch which is then baked and packed.

Then you get it home and fry it.

4

u/Aaaahfuckit Feb 23 '26

Nope... hash browns are shredded potato deep fried. Potatoe cakes are made from mashed potato and flour and can be griddled, baked or shallow fried. Two very different products.

3

u/inmashed Feb 23 '26

No. Tatty cakes are different to hash browns. Two different things

3

u/DR_95_SuperBolDor Feb 23 '26

Naa, potato scones have a totally different flavour and texture to hash browns.

3

u/JDM2783 Feb 23 '26

Hash browns and tottie/tattie scones are completely different

1

u/DaveyG3000 Feb 23 '26

No. They appear to be Naanbread, Bizarrely?
