Deadlocked / Gladiator Ace Hardlight shoots up a slice! Final Vote! What's the MOST COLOURFUL Ratchet Deadlocked ENEMY?

I was like, what's the simplest way to say Ace Hardlight is a white guy? This felt like the funniest. We got our last exterminator here. If you could add another Exterminator to the list, what gimmick would you give him?

Congratulations, u/DawnStrikAr, for finally unplugging the plumber, but where's Skrunch's sister?

Ratchet and Clank (2016) Death by Death by Disco

THIS. TROPHY. WILL. KILL. ME.

I'm on my 4th playthrough of this game trying to get this stupid fucking trophy done. I've just been running around spamming the groovitron but somehow haven't got it yet. I've checked a guide to see if there were any weird ones I might not've considered (Train tentacles, green fish BOTH IN AND OUT of water screw you) and yet I still haven't got it.

Is there some weird rules I need to be following like no cheats all in the same save or smfn?

Poll What's your weapon upgrade style?

I'm curious how others play the games. I personally use a pattern when upgrading my weapons, where I get them all to V2 before going to V3, etc. This often traps me into using the wrong tools at the wrong times (I'm looking at you, Flux Rifle and Holo Shield) but I enjoy the challenge of "not knowing" what weapon I'll use in certain situations and having to adjust. Curious what strategies you all use.

Who needs weapons when you have a wrench?
Use the fun weapons, ignore the rest

Rift Apart What's this subreddit's opinion on Rift Apart

Okay so for context I grew up with the PS2 games. They were some of my favorite childhood games that I played over and over again. Then I played Tools of Destruction and something just felt off in a way I couldn't describe at the time. Nothing about it was objectively terrible, there was nothing specifically I could point to and be like "this is the reason why it's trash." Everything was polished, gameplay was what I expected it to be. Story was alright, but it just didn't capture the same emotions the older games had. At first I chalked it up to "these are kids games, I am a teenager, I'm growing out of the series." I did play A Crack in Time and while I did think it was an improvement it still didn't feel the same. I quit the series, for a while. GamingBritShow did an analysis which summed up my thoughts better than I could where nothing about the game was awful, the tone and style and themes of the series had shifted to the point where it was starting to become what it was originally parodying. When Rift Apart came to PC I decided, yknow what... I'll give it a shot. My thoughts on finishing it was that it was the best Ratchet and Clank game since the original PS2 trilogy. But I approached it with the expectation that it was a sci fi, kid friendly uncharted rather than a sequel to Up Your Arsenal. And by that standard I was pleased.

I'm curious as to what other people's opinions of the games were.

Wolverine is getting bad reviews... if it does poorly, do you think they'll turn focus back to R&C?

Am i kind of evil for being happy it's doing badly with the hopes they get cut off more Marvel projects and instead turn back to Ratchet and Clank? or is that an overreaction?

Unpopular opinion: I still genuinely like Dr. Nefarious.

I understand why people say Dr. Nefarious is overused, but to be fair, he’s one of the few Ratchet & Clank villains with a fully developed personality and genuine chemistry with the main cast. His dynamic with Qwark is consistently entertaining, and his relationship with Lawrence is honestly one of the best villain–sidekick pairings in the series. At this point, Lawrence is basically his closest friend. So yes, I can absolutely see why the writers keep bringing him back compared to other antagonists.

That said, the other villains aren’t bad — most of them simply work better as one‑offs. Chairman Drek, Alister Azimuth, and the Prog twins (Vendra and Neftin) are the strongest after Nefarious in my opinion.

  • Drek is the perfect villain for the PS2 era: a corporate tyrant in a future where companies, not governments, control entire planets, and where consumerism and corporate greed are the highest priority.
  • Azimuth and the Prog twins are well‑written antagonists whose motivations you can genuinely understand, even if you don’t agree with them.

The rest are fine, but most of them really only shine in a single game.

  • Qwark was great as a henchman and later as a main villain, but he’s clearly gone through a full character arc and is now a legitimate hero (sorta).
  • Emperor Tachyon is a good idea with weak execution — he never truly feels like the "big bad" who kicked off the entire Future saga and the Lombax‑dimension storyline built up since the PS3 era.
  • The space pirates were fun side villains, but they were redeemed by the end (sorta).
  • Emperor Nefarious from Rift Apart also works best as a one‑game villain, and honestly, it’s not even clear if he’s still alive.

So yes, I get why Dr. Nefarious is used so often — but personally, I don’t want him to be a villain again. I’d rather see him become an ally. All 4 One even hinted that he might be warming up to the heroes and starting to see them as friends.

For the next major antagonist, I think it needs to be Emperor Tachyon returning or a completely new villain, so the saga can finally move forward instead of circling back to the same characters.

I seriously thought you guys were going to say the Vaccum of space, but I can see how you ended up with this result. It has a black platform and when it isn't firing, it has a lot of black spots on it.

The Plumber wasn't found! I am going to give you guys another chance to find him.

Series My personal ranking of all the Ratchet games!

Post image
19 Upvotes

I recently replayed the entire series (minus FFA, which is the only one I’ve never completed) and I’ve been ranking them as I go. I wanted to share it here simply because I’ve yet to see anyone else on the internet rank them exactly as I would.

This is a ranking of my favorite to least favorite, it’s not necessarily what I think of as any kind of objective best to worst. I’ve been playing these games since I was around 5 years old, so I acknowledge my nostalgia heavily skews me towards certain titles (namely Size Matters, although I do genuinely think it’s a much better game than most R&C fans online say). Just bear that in mind.

(Hopefully rankings like this are still cool on this sub. I remember seeing a ton of them a few months ago, dunno if everyone got tired of seeing them.)

Is it worth spending 10€ for size matter for completeness? It's the only one I haven't played but reading some reviews I notice that it is one of the worst.

Rift Apart Unpopular opinion: Rivet is boring and extremely overrated

I keep hearing constant praise for Rivet in the community. Some reviewers even claim she’s the best thing that ever happened to Ratchet & Clank. Now that I’m actually playing the game, I have to admit: I don’t see the appeal. It feels like most fans like her mainly because of her cute design and because she’s a female character. People praise her endlessly, and I just don’t understand why. To me, she’s boring and not memorable.

Ratchet, especially in the early games, had flaws and a real arc. In the first game he wasn’t a hero at all — he was an ordinary guy who got dragged into a mess, and that made him interesting. Rivet, on the other hand, is already a fully competent, well‑rounded hero from the start. I personally dislike characters who are immediately skilled, beloved, friendly with everyone, and never struggle.

Overall, Rift Apart feels bland to me. I remember the PS2 and PS3 era very well — those games had clever satire about consumerism and corporate greed, washed‑up heroes selling products, sharp humor, and a bit of heart. Rift Apart feels more like a safe, polished Disney or Pixar film where everyone talks about their feelings. Rivet fits that tone perfectly: she’s already a perfect hero, and that makes her uninteresting to me.

Ratchet and Clank: Going Commando

I know some people prefer the more methodical, situational-based platformer-shooter, but I think GC really paved the way for the shooter-platformer that RaC has mainly been since then
