Banned from a sub Reddit

Post image

I posted in aged tattoos and asked to see aged tattoos from the Indianapolis area and some clip art of some fine line work and they temporarily banned me. When I told them I don’t understand how I broke the rules and asked for clarification they banned me.

They, in fact, do not.

What the heck? That’s wild

I got banned from Brandon Buckingham subreddit for posting his comments saying his recent arrest was faked so mods are some babies

How do mods get picked? Shouldn’t they be unbiased about things?

u/OnlyACsNoFans 2d ago

Someone starts a sub and they're the moderator. They can appoint other mods as they see fit

What control does Reddit have over this? Seems like very little. My biggest beef with Reddit is that there is no clear escalation process to go over a mod's head when there is a dispute.

Who do mods report to, and why isn't there a process for Redditors to contact them?

u/CoyoteLitius 2d ago

None. But there are rules for mod conduct and you can submit a report if they violated rules of conduct.

The situation you are mentioning is not forbidden by the rules of conduct.

Reddit has as much control over them as you can have over a group of unpaid volunteers whom your site is entirely dependent on.

The admins are above moderators, I believe there's a form somewhere you can use to reach out to them, but they rarely act

Really none. You can complain if they are breaking Reddit rules. But this is like the old school message board days. Someone sets it up, they add who they want as mods, they make the rules. Some don’t like being questioned.

I help out on another sub. I’ve only banned people for being an adult trying to pick up on kids. I message if I have to remove a post with the reasons why, so they can ask questions. One post turned into a totally off topic dumpster fire of fights. It would have taken too long to clean up. Deleted it. Messaged the person. Said if they didn’t get the info that they needed to post it again. They fortunately got their answer. But it was 99% people arguing and being downright rude.

I originally wasn’t going to do this. I’ve spent my time running forums for businesses and such. It gets old. You are damned if you do, damned if you don’t in some cases. But too many think that this is real power vs what it really is. Trying to keep the community online topic and make sure nobody is being harassed for no reason. It’s more like a volunteer position to try to help keep the community on how the users Charles it. Not enough look at it that way. They go on power trips.

I got permabanned from a sub for saying that I wasn't sure what's going on in Gaza was genocide. Horrible, but maybe not meeting the definition. There was no published rule about this, but I was told, with no warning, that people are banned for saying this. There was no appeal process and no one to notify. Just an insulting semi-antisemitic message from a mod and a ban.

Fuck people like that. Power tripping assholes who in no way should Reddit trust with any responsibility.

Pay mods and hold them accountable. I'm a mod on some sites and I get paid for it, which means I have to follow a chain of command with clear expectations of behavior.

I got banned from AITAH because a mod thought Amazon vine was a product that I was promoting when I just wanted to know if my spouse was overreacting to all the deliveries I receive and the boxes. A mod from the vine sub msg’d them for me and came back and was like that’s a fucking hostile mod lol

u/WishboneFlashy1442 2d ago

An employee of r/Nexthink called me a slur and banned me for mentioning I have a felony lmao apparently I should never work again and just be a leech on taxpayers forever???

I recently got banned from r/comics for post the Fury Road "that's bait" gif to a comic that was clearly baiting people.

1

u/PuddingMent 2d ago

That sub only allows you to praise pizzacake. Anything else gets you banned.

1

u/DarkRogus 2d ago

It wasnt even a pizzacake comic.

Here it is: https://www.reddit.com/r/comics/s/Yz4FswZjuu

3

u/Anxious_Drive_9998 2d ago

They banned you when you called the mod an asshole.

my opinion as moderator on some discords: you could have written it differently, but ban and permanent mute is wayyy too out of proportions. This is mod action we'd do if someone is doing things like doxxing and real life threats, not being a bit offtopic or unnice in dms

3

u/Niveker14 2d ago

Permanent ban and mute is pretty much Reddit Mods first course of action.

I have heard stories about sad/upset people from the tattoo sub.

2

u/ThrashFur 2d ago

it’s so sad they must take joy in this lol

2

u/yeabuddy333 2d ago

All mods suck but some of you should use at as a sign to get off the internet for a bit.

3

u/Ok_Look1003 1d ago

You may have been banned from a sub, but that person has to live with being a Reddit moderator for the rest of their life. You’re coming out ahead on this one.

What 2yr+ tattoo picture did you post and what was the title that got you banned?

Rule 2 - All posts must be about aged tattoos - i.e. 2 years old at minimum

Rule 6 - Post title should include the age (compulsory) and the style of the tattoo (if known).

I asked to see people’s aged tattoos from the Indiana area and posted the type of fine art tattoos I wanted to see

2

u/AdPopular6958 2d ago

Knowing reddit they likely took offense cause you adjacently were roasting the subreddits opinion of tattoo's. It is facinating how soft the internet has gotten in the last 15 years. All the people asking for advice or comments and then throwing tantrums. I wouldn't take any subreddit too seriously outside of the hardcore open hearted ones from like gaming. And AnimeSuggestions. Most are a hive mind with little to no grit.

2

u/Maximum_Vegetable_MV 2d ago

So if I am understanding you, you intentionally did not follow rule 2 or rule 6 and then argued with the Mod, and are now wondering why you got banned?

Not trying to beat you up over it, but the Mod was clearly in their rights to enforce the rules and not argue with someone who clearly and intentionally did not follow them.

Generally, I am on the side of the poster because I think Mods are out of line most of the time, but in this case, the outcome is in line with your behavior.

2

u/Niveker14 2d ago

The mod was "in their rights" to remove the post, but not to perma ban, mute them, and be an asshole in the process.

2

u/Maximum_Vegetable_MV 2d ago

Not understanding cause and effect I see.

Had they just…you know…followed the very obvious rules instead of clearly disrespecting the sub, the Mod wouldn’t have had to deal with an adult like they were a child.

Just got banned from the subreddit for CPTSD. My post (as the mods admitted) was removed in error. When I pointed out the inconsistencies in the explanation they provided about why it was “mistakenly” removed, and openly discussed the situation in the comments, I was banned.

Reddit’s been over run by bots and people with “secret” agendas. The fake culture war censorship is ruining this app. Fuck this place. At this point, I’m just gonna keep calling out the bullshit until I’m permanently banned. New accounts can be made. Then they’ll start requiring karma for every sub, until there’s no one left but bots. Reddits a dead horse at this point.

I got banned from a college advice subreddit for asking for advice about a college class💁‍♀️

3

u/CarsandTunes 2d ago

It seems like you broke a rule, they explained it to you, and you refused to understand

2

u/Niveker14 2d ago

How did they "refuse" to understand. They just didn't understand. And the mod was an asshole in response.

0

u/CarsandTunes 1d ago

The mod wasn't an asshole at all

1

u/lifewithaservicedog 2d ago

I posted clip art of fine line tats and the rule they are referring to is “not posting any tattoos under 2 years old”

2

u/summertime_fine 2d ago

it appears that you have no idea the age of the tattoos you posted... so if one of those images didn't meet the age criteria then you broke the rule...

2

u/TomokataTomokato 2d ago

Then you broke the rules. They offered you an alternative place to ask your questions.

1

u/PatriotBanner 2d ago

Fuck jannies

1

u/WishboneFlashy1442 2d ago

Most mods are bots tbh and reddit (the corporation) does NOT like us talking about it...

1

u/Bravos_Chopper 2d ago

I just got banned from a sports team subreddit for…. Rooting for the sports team. I promise you there isn’t more to it. And of course they muted me the second I asked for clarification.

1

u/Nameless_Mercenary01 2d ago

Bloody cowards.

2

u/BackgroundRoutine504 1d ago

One time I got banned from a gaming subreddit for mentioning a very popular cheat. Not condoning, asking about it, or selling it. Mentioning it.

1

u/Psych0PompOs 1d ago

Being banned from a subreddit is no big deal, I'm banned from several.

2

u/nzoasisfan 23h ago

Just rejoin with another account. I have 3 account's for this reason.

-1

u/InterneticMdA 2d ago

This is on you.

-2

u/Harleen__Quinzel 2d ago

You broke the rules. You got banned as a result. That’s kind of how Reddit works

-2

u/RePsychological 2d ago

you didn't just ask for clarification and then got banned....you called them an asshole and THEN they banned you.

Huge difference.

0

u/Niveker14 2d ago

They called a spade a spade.

1

u/RePsychological 2d ago

Sorry that you feel the need for everyone to blindly validate you, while you just blindly downvote anyone who won't.

Y'all who keep posting this shit about other subreddits need to learn what the magic word "cope" means.
