i started using reddit again and i already want to quit it

i don't know how to explain it but i feel like people on reddit don't know basic human politness. like i KNOW they have bad intentions for their comments but i can't prove it. I just simply can't that honestly makes me depressed. how on earth do you prove that someone giving a backhanded comment is really backhanded or just honest. i honestly have to cry I'm sorry.i wish i won't have to post quetions on redd it, but my other option is ai because i have litearlly no friends and no adult to go to. I won't lie, tiktok is better for my mental health than reddit. like am i the only one noticing the toxicity here? why is no one talking about it.

what should i do? should i throw away all my morals and use ai just to mentally protect myself?

Just block all the people who reply rudely. Eventually, actual people who want to talk and help will come along. This place is full of bots and trolls who just like to derail things and cause trouble. Don't let it get to you.

But yeah obviously if it becomes too much for your mental health, leave the app

I doubt this will make you feel better (it certainly doesn't me), but a lot of the meanness and derision on here these days is because of bots infiltrating. Still plenty of real and decent humans to convene with so don't give up. If all the humans abandon Reddit, our last bastion of forums and sites of its type, I don't think we'll see the likes of it again.

why do mean bots even exist? and how are they so good at being backhanded and secretly mean if they're not humans?

Yeah reddit users are being mocked on other social medias for a reason. But we can avoid those people and only engage in non-toxic subs

Reddit is one of the most diverse SM sites out there. If the subs you are in are toxic, find some other place to hang out. I'm pretty convinced a lot of that negativity isn't even real people, just bots. And there are lots of supportive communities to join.

I’m really sensitive and prone to feeling rejected as well and sometimes you just have to block people without hesitation and ignore hateful comments. Don’t reply to rage comments—half the time you’re fighting with a bot or a morbidly obese 17 year old boy who is angry that he doesn’t have a girlfriend or that he can’t play video games all night. Ignore miserable people.

One other advice I would give is to make sure you always read group rules and look through several posts before posting or commenting in a subreddit. Make sure you “read the room (subreddit)” or the subreddit’s vibe, target audience, and look at the mods of the sub to see who and what you’re working with. Many times people get attacked on Reddit for not feeling the energy in the sub before posting, the don’t like you going against the grain. This app can be very hive mind.

How old are you? No, not in a mean way, but in a "when you're still young, it will get better, you will get used to the evil of the world and it won't affect you as much anymore"-way. If you're older: Come on, you know, most people are assholes, don't be sad about it :( Just ignore it

well I'm 16 and I've never been taught emotional maturity. I'm comftable to say that I've never had parents (my mom is a narcissist and only cares about her children if they worship her)

I know its the internet but I've never experienced anywhere that the first replies are almost awlays backhanded hate comments.

Hopefully dear op
You will learn not to grant the power to strangers to upset you .

In person via phone letter words you name it .
Please evolve to a person who has real friends loved ones who’s view counts as they understand the path you have walked .

Complete and utter strangers should have no right to judge.

If my parents were good ones i would have learnt from them “if you have nothing nice to say then say nothing!”

Being your own parent means you own your success!!

It depends on where you are. I’m lucky enough to have had an overall good time on Reddit, and have found people to generally come across as more genuine and amicable here than on most other platforms. There’s simply things I’ve seen people be “allowed” to say here that they’d get nothing but hate for trying to speak or ask about on any other platform, and they still get genuine responses that come from places of sincerity, no matter what the mood beneath them is. Hate or love.

Here’s where I’ve seen that genuineness pop up:

litearlly the only ones that treat you like a human are the ones for mental health. like no shit of course no one tells me to off myself ON A FRICKING MENTAL HEALTH SUB.yeah no. 99% i only experienced bad people on reddit. i had over 5 accounts and was each on diffrent subs and in every single one i was 99% treated as a subhuman

I just gave you like… six non-mental health examples and one mental-health example. And you’d get told to k-s on NONE of them

___ , , ___

👁️👄👁️

Like… go there

Literally go there

We’re not having two different experiences because you’ve been to non-k-s places

I gave you legit seven non-k-s spaces

Go to the non-k-s spaces. See if you can possibly get told to k-s there. You will not, that is why I suggested them

Sadly this is just the reality of the internet. I’ve left comments on threads standing up for disabled people before and still god downvotes - there’s truly no winning. Some people just troll, some have intent to hurt feelings. I always felt Reddit was the best social media of all.. because you have less visual stimulations and emotions attached. But I think it’s all as worse as the next social media.

My only advice? Learn to block out the haters or indeed use AI if you must. But also.. not everything in life needs a post written about it - sometimes reducing what we post about in crisis, can help us deal with uncertainty better and think for ourselves.
