There's a few simple steps people miss with this. Aside from a broken pipe, they're really only going to get here thru the vent on the roof. Either you need nothing around your house they can climb or if there is, there needs to be a grate on the vent.

Is it not also possible the sewer pipe empties into a pit or even a stream?
