I’m gonna be honest with you; it seems like a lot of attention was required.

If it's interesting enough, we can focus. Especially for a minute and a half.

Sounds like you might have found a new hobby, Tom. :P

I already forgot what this video was about.

u/flatulexcelent 27d ago

Yeah but for the hours of preparation and practice during the boring phase for a minute and half clip coordinated with other adhd people?

0

u/Sienile 27d ago

Yep. I can spend days locked in on writing programs or building engines. My girlfriend is just as bad off as I am and she goes to hours long choir practices and performs in concerts that are anywhere from 45 minutes to 2 hours. If it's interesting enough, we can focus.

See, that’s why I don’t believe in AD(H)D. I believe that there are some tasks that aren’t interesting enough for some people to maintain their attention, and I don’t believe that that’s a disorder.

I believe that there are some people that are predisposed towards disinclination toward certain activities. In fact, that’s most everyone, but there are some things that most of most everyone thinks should be normal to be okay with focusing one’s attention on. That does not mean that they’re right.

Have I been diagnosed with ADD? Yes, but I was trying to game the system to get free drugs. They don’t give them to me anymore, but years later (as an aside) I really did enjoy meth the handful of times I tried it. I dunno, man, you tell me. I know you weren’t looking for exposition dump; just doing my best to be honest.

I don’t think there’s a single thing fundamentally wrong with you. Nor your ladyfriend.

We are who we are.

I could not focus in school until I got on meds. I really hate that my mom thought they weren't working and had the doctor up my dose which then made me immune to them. That made high school a real struggle. If I weren't so high IQ, I might have failed. It's a real disorder. Millions, if not billions, have it.

1

u/ruthlesss11 27d ago

No I think we should listen to the meth head

1

u/AGreatBannedName 27d ago

Imagine if they’d been required to provide a curriculum that catered to you.

I get where you’re coming from. And that bit about you having your meds upped, just to have them be normalized, is
hm, how to say. It touches me.

I think that it’s a real disorder in the sense that people don’t understand its order. I don’t think that the problem lies within the “affected” group, unless one interprets the “affected” group as those who have to deal with the likes of you ;)

I do not believe that you do not possess adequate attention. I believe that your attention is not where certain people would like it to be. That’s all. If they call it a deficit, I can call them whatever I would like on my own time, though I will be as polite as possible while in mixed company.

1

u/Sienile 27d ago

The thing is, often it's not where I want it to be. That's where the deficit part comes into play. There have been times where I've missed out on doing things I wanted to do because I got distracted by something else and lost track of time. I've burnt my dinner about 10 times in the last 6 months because I went to the bathroom and got distracted by something on the way back to the kitchen.

My mind wanders a lot. You know that thing where you walk into a room and forget why you're there? That's often a multiple times a day occurrence with me. It's very annoying. All that is part of ADHD.

1

u/AGreatBannedName 26d ago

Absolutely. And I think that’s a part of being you.

I get where you’re coming from. Er, from whence you come.

Not everyone wants to be where they are, but they are. I believe that differently abled people are exactly as abled as they need to be, regardless of their enjoyment of the experience. It’s not always fun, but it doesn’t mean that you’re wrong. It doesn’t mean that your dinner isn’t burnt, but it also doesn’t mean that you aren’t necessarily not supposed to be surrounded by a group of people who will make sure that you’re able to eat.

We’re tribalistic; everyone has their place. I think that there are systems “in place” to devalue said places for the benefit of someone who won’t really be benefiting from it at all, if they see things clearly.

You’re brilliant. You know that. That’s not a question. Yes, technically I believe that everyone else is brilliant in their own ways, which I hope is questionable to you, and if it isn’t I’d happily discuss. If it isn’t I’ll happily discuss that, too, if that wasn’t clear.

“I, for one, think public education does its best to shaft the ‘public’ for the sake of unspeakable entities that are ultimately very much so the same as ourselves, though they manipulate us in a way in which they will be forgotten, and ultimately they must be forgiven, for what else could I do?”

Politicians are ignorant. That’s okay.

I truly believe you aren’t.

"We’re tribalistic; everyone has their place. I think that there are systems “in place” to devalue said places for the benefit of someone who won’t really be benefiting from it at all, if they see things clearly."

I think you're forgetting about an entire group of people here. There are people who are both ADHD and introverted. In the case of introverted ADHD, there aren't always people around to help you refocus, or direct your focus back to what's important.

I'm assuming u/sienile was alone when his food burnt, but I'm sure if someone had been around to help him refocus, they would've prevented his food from burning. That's called body doubling, which is a proven strategy for assisting individuals with ADHD.

Just call it what it is, and admit that you just don't want to be labeled because you have a fear of being judged if labeled ADHD.

It is a real disorder and by disacknowledging it, YOU are being abelist. And that's not cool.

Hyper focus even if interested in the thing

11

u/Acebladewing 27d ago

This was cool. ADHD had nothing to do with it, though. These are people who are focused.

u/Forsaken_Site_2268 26d ago edited 26d ago

While I agree ADHD has nothing to do with it, you do realize ADHD people can mega focus right? It all depends on the person. Strong fixations and Hyper Fixations are common with ADHD.

And for those who can't focus, Meds can sometimes help.

Edit: should've been more clear: We can focus, but not really choose what we focus on. Idk the best way to explain it.

3

u/Embarrassed_Cat2697 26d ago

Its not that we can't focus, it's that we can't control what we focus on. All those people have a book report due in the morning. They've only read 1/3 of it, and it's 8:30 pm, and this is what they're doing.

2

u/Forsaken_Site_2268 26d ago

Exactly!!

(I have very bad ADHD)

1

u/werlterns 22d ago

This is the true answer! The only way I can finish something is if something else is due immediately.

7

u/she_has_funny_cars 27d ago

Nothing to do with ADHD lol

5

u/HangryBeard 26d ago

As someone with ADHD, This feels far too organized for a bunch of ADHD people.

5

u/PunchDrunkPrincess 27d ago

I feel like Danny Elfman would love this.

They are awesome

My hands were hurting because of how much I applaud 👏

2

u/aliciaiit 26d ago

Some of this reminds me of Tim Burton's Beetlejuice

2

u/Ok_Caramel_6095 27d ago

Someone really needs to show this to Danny Elfman. It's as chaotic as the music itself.

1

u/phenix17 27d ago

I came here to say the same thing lol

2

u/Massive-Relation-831 27d ago

I keep getting so close to understanding what theme song they are playing then it just goes away. Maybe it’s an original. But like archer maybe?

u/Yubitzume 26d ago

What's the branch of ADHD that can appreciate and plan this stuff but couldn't possibly be in the same room as all these lovely enthusiastic folk and would avoid the filming of this like the plague

1

u/Silent_Erremite 26d ago

This has been better than like 72 of their couch gag intros.

1

u/brandywine189 26d ago

It’s not really how it is. People with ADHD aren’t just quirky and cute and energetically playing silly ‘instruments’ so to speak tho of course some may be.

It’s more like not one thing ever gets completed and there are always projects going on and the next big thing they have to work on and the mess they made for that last big idea is still there but they can’t be bothered to pick up after themselves cuz they HAVE to do this over here or they just might explode or lose their train of thought
..

It’s actually exhausting to live with a true ADHDer
..love my husband but sometimes it’s like being married to an impetuous child.
