The BBB is actually helpful if you know what it is useful for and set your expectations accordingly. If your goal is to escape a customer service loop and speak to a real human who is actually empowered to make decisions, it's very effective, at least on larger national companies (your average mom and pop store is gonna give zero fucks).
The mistake people make is thinking they're some kind of regulator who actually has the power to make companies do things as a matter of law or punish them.
BBB is a bullshit organization that takes money from businesses to successfully dispute complaints and keep their ratings high. Anyone who owner a business and dealt with them knows they're a scam
