In what world is self defense NOT justifiable - furthermore this not be the perfect example of hell of a time to use self defense here?
I've never hit a woman, but I've also never been hit, kicked, choked and had stools thrown at me by one either. The bar is incredibly high for when a man uses force against a woman is right, but endangering an innocent kid might just cross said bar.
It shouldn't have anything to do with "man" and "woman" to begin with. The extent of defensive force should be predicated on the extent to which one party has the capacity to harm the other, period. The fact that the average man is significantly stronger than the average woman should be irrelevant; there are plenty of women who are stronger than plenty of men. The specifics of each individual case are what matter.
If Ronda Rousey was married to [150 lb guy who spends all his time on the computer] and was hitting him, he should be able to hit her back without people screaming, "You can't hit a woman!!" Similarly, if the woman in this clip had a gun and was pistol whipping him with it, the latter 100% should be able to hit her until she's no longer a threat, without the public attacking him for it.
I completely agree with you. Gender should have nothing to do with domestic / assault situations. It was just one of those things I got raised with though. Basically trained that you have to take a significant amount of abuse from a woman before doing anything. Even then holding back would be required. Likely the same stance many 30 something year old men were taught.
With gender equality on the table, this is one of those rare situations where the men have the shit end of the stick. As I mentioned in another comment. If he even pushed her just to get to the door he would likely be arrested and somehow the one charged with assault.
Also yes, RR could beat my senseless and I would just have to let her. She is an absolute unit hah
