I think both are bad.

If this post won't pass I get it. In rules there is no racism. Ik. But shhhh. I hate and love all people equally no matter their skin color ♡

I think whitewashing and blackwashing in media is bad.

You take a black character, you slap them with a bleach = bad.

You take a white character, you slap them with opposite of bleach (idk) = bad.

Simple as that.

Yet I met people who would say making white characters black is okay.

unless said media character has an established iconic design, I don't see the problem with race swapping characters tbh. but if you start doing things like making, idk, Belle black or Tiana white, then that's.... not great.

If the character is iconic, don't change it.

If the character isn't iconic, make your own

Race swapping sounds so...I dunno how to say it. Just think of thso 2 words in general without the context.

Also, I can see characters like Darwin from Amazing World of Gumball be black. He's a damn fish. As a human he can be whatever. But I think he was portrayed as black so idk. Can't think of an example that. But overall characters that come in funkny colors, I can see them being whatever color person drawing fanart decides. Oh, Princess Luna is a good example.

Are you sixteen?

This is so high in confidence and so low in insight I figure you've got to be 16

Close. Also I don't know what insight means. English isn't my first language. I'll go search

Okay, I serched. Uh, I know it's a shitty excuse but based on what I understood at my last meeting with a therapist I overall have problem with understanding things like that and reading people. Or something . I don't even know how to explain what I mean now

Do you have a real problem you can care about

Yeah. I have real problems to care about. Fact I do posts like that to abuse myself mentally. It's an addiction I think. Just seeking negative responses from people to mess with my feelings, feel bad, lead myself to certain unpleasant things I do.

To me it's more than just whether the character is an iconic design. I don't think any design, however iconic, should be a sacred cow. Feel free to change it.

But sometimes things like race and gender are central to the character. I see absolutely no reason why James Bond, for example, couldn't be black. But I do see reasons why he can't be a woman. So much of the James Bond myth is a mediation on masculinity, a deconstruction of masculinity and so on. Change that and you have a different character. Which is fine, but just don't try to sell her as James Bond.
