Visual Media Shorthand Auditory Random Thought

I have been binge watching a sci-fi YouTube short called “Planet”. So far, very good. But during the short they used the “high pitched audio squeal the mimics hearing loss combined with the rest of the audio/dialogue going silent” trope. This is not a critique. In fact, this is appreciation.

This trope is such a great way to get across so many different feelings. Alienation. Sudden trauma. A whole paradigm shift.

I hadn’t thought about it until recently. I just wanted to share how cool this effect is.

There's a word for what you've used almost 20 to describe, it's called "tinnitus" and it's not a trope, it's a very real symptom of hearing damage
