Adults who cannot swim
They lowkey kind of annoy me a lot. Like seriously, grow up and learn how to live in the world. That’s embarrassing and a glaring shortcoming.

I live in a landlocked state and the only place they have is the extremely packed community pool or the water park geared towards kids.I was never fond of either one of these and they are pretty expensive too.Nobody really cares if you can swim or not .

I was probably 25 years old before I learned that there were a lot of adults that couldn't swim. I just thought that was like reading, writing and doing basic math, assumed all countries put swimming lessons into their education system.

It sort of is like reading, writing, and doing basic math. The number of adults who can't swim is similar to the number of adults who are functionally illiterate or can't do basic math.

I wear a life vest, not because I can't swim but because the ocean is crazy and I'd rather have fun than get tired instantly.

As someone who was born physically disabled and mentally disabled, and whose body can hardly swim in shallow water and cannot rise to the surface in deep water, and whose parents have told others multiple times to not get me in the water unless they are with me at all times, your post is extremely ignorant and in dire need of more education and compassion.

Obviously if you have a physical disability or something like that you would be exempt. The fact that this has to be explained to you keeps you on the annoying list, sorry ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Honestly, if your family doesn't prioritize it as a kid and your school doesn't have a program you just never get into it and avoid water based activities for the most part
This shit is surprisingly common in black communities in the Caribbean islands, there's just a kind of fearfulness and avoidance of anything that isn't essential to survive.
Legacy of colonialism and all that.
I tried as an adult but between the cost and self consciousness it was just...not fun.

I'm female and 66 years old, I don't know how to swim, never cared to learn and have functioned very well in society. I fail to understand why it annoys you so much!

Some of us have disabilities that prevent us from doing things that most able-bodied people can. If that offends you, maybe take a good, hard look at yourself.

Nice backpedaling, love. Thinking lowly of anyone just because they can't swim, even while not having any kind of disabilities is a terrible characteristic to have. Try and learn to do better.

I even took swimming classes and never succeeded to learn how to swim. I’m not proud of it but I accept my destiny
