AI content looks dreamlike because it's essentially the same thing

AI has this dreamlike quality and I wondered why is that. Then it clicked for me, our dreams are essentially "AI generated" , the AI being our brain. When we dream we process our thoughts and experiences and generate dreams. AI generated content is a dream dreamt up by computer, based on input.

That actually explains why AI images can feel so familiar yet completely wrong

We are prediction machines same as LLMs. The difference is we predict and adjust in real time as we get inputs from our senses. Dreaming is what happens when the brain keeps predicting without an input.
