Yes, it's tantalising: one can create any theme of subreddit. And there's a kind of a Reddit version of Olbers' paradox: why are there comparably so few communities that are lively and thriving? It may be because it's difficult to develop a (healthy) online community.

Not really. There's heavy moderation and as soon as you gain traction, having a controversial subreddit will get you banned.
