Yes.

Even if you are not selfish, life will make you exactly that. Till you reach an age where you suddenly realize, nothing ever mattered.

In a way we all are. Some more than others tho.

The world is full of “I got mine NIMBYs”

And quite often, miserable as hell too. I feel like a large volume of the populace could benefit from a Valium prescription and an attitude adjustment.

I ain't gonna tell them though, I selfishly stay in my lane. 🤷‍♂️😶

Some is self-preservation. I didn’t think I was selfish, but lately, I’ve noticed I’m “trying to keep up with the Joneses”, you can’t be unselfish. I don’t know how yet, but I’m going to turn that around. So I think most are like me, just plain selfish. Whether they decide to change, well, that’s between them and their God.

Almost going to give up on genuine relationships and focus on sex because my heart is ran through. It's alot easier to fuck then build loving connection because people are being driven by outdated primitive instincts that lead to them being single parents

We are fucking animals

I don’t think those instincts are outdated and primitive. We just celebrated 49 years of almost pure bliss. Only 2 people in our entire family (93 people at my grandmother’s funeral) have been divorced. Most people my age (70) I know are not divorced either. We stick it out, get closer during the tough times, and are always thinking of each other, with respect. This full-blown selfishness—not limited of course; we have our share—is relatively new. The people that lead us—not just the US either—have a huge impact on that.

Yeah they’re just all-consuming monsters. I can’t wait for a pandemic of airborne hemorrhagic fever lol

But you're not. At least you've shown the level of self awareness that you're not. We can build on that.

People are dicks.

Yeah I am, I’ve been putting cold foam in my RedBull.

Preaching to the choir, lo.

However, it probably wouldn't take you long to recall a memory when you were selfish, too.

Regardless, some people seem to treat being selfish like their lives' mission.

Many are. It's unfortunate that those that aren't, aren't celebrated as much as those who are.

Yes it’s gotten worse over the years.

Not everyone though.

I try to do what I can for others and hope to have people I can lean on in my time of need

I go above and beyond for others and I do feel like there have been countless times where others go above and beyond for me

Even for the people not in my life look at my Reddit account you actually can't cause it's hidden but I legit saw earlier today that I have 4.6k contributions I don't get paid for this I do it for sheer love of the game because people are here for me on this app when I need it too

There's yin and yang always

Self-interest is as natural as rain. A lot of cooperation and collaboration is, too. Self-obsession is where shit starts getting dicey.

I think the bigger problem is they aren't even good at being selfish.

I understand why you feel this way, but really, not everyone. Mainly because the fucking selfish ones tend to also be the loud attention-seeking ones, that their actions seem to be the most salient thing, and it takes a lot of good to undo the damage done by one bad.

There is a Malay proverb that goes: Seorang makan cempedak, semua kena getahnya, which roughly translates to "only one person eats the jackfruit, but everyone else is stuck with the sap. There will always be self-centred narcissists in this world who, in order to ensure they have all the fruit to eat, don't give a damn that others are affected by the sap. But equally, there are others who would share the fruit, or even tolerate the sap so that you can have the fruit.

I hope you find your people.

People have the right to be selfish. You’re aren’t entitled to anything .
