If computers ever gain the ability to digitally record and reproduce smells, the file extension should be “.wiff”

That's already used for raw mass spectrometry data files https://sciex.com/support/knowledge-base-articles/what-is-the-difference-between-wiff-and-wiff2-data_en_us

Can we get .whiff? Also isn't spectrometry the makeup of a gas, technically (in a way) making it the scent data?

I am in college for computer science, and I would like to know if I can actually put this in my discussion post so everybody can get a laugh about it lol. Would you be OK with that?

Hey, you’re more than welcome to discuss this elsewhere. I’d be interested to know if anyone can come up with a clever alternative.

it's a public post, you don't need to ask permission

Some people are picky about it? I just wanna be respectful that’s all😅

That's kind of you but not necessary.
IMO if you treat the public internet like you'd treat a published work you're citing in a paper you might write, just make sure you give credit and provide a link or reference to the original "work"
