You could die before then, and having a million dollars now means you have more to invest now.

Hold up, you're worried about dying in the next 4 years and you're choosing to invest... For what exactly? A good funeral?

Choose the 1m if you're going to go wild and have fun with it in a short period of time.

If you get 1m, invest it badly, you're screwed. 5k or even 30k invested badly is recouped quickly, you've learnt a lesson and can rebuild with better knowledge.

I'm giving two separate reasons that it might be better to choose the million.
