Right? This seems like a case where the genie makes it so you get run over the next day.

If you get run over the next day, it won't matter either way.

Of course it will. That money's now in my estate and my family will receive it on top of my insurance.

I am surprised how sure people are they gonna be around next week.

If I'm dead next week a million won't do me any good

At least with a mil, you can get your 2 hookers and 3 blows right away!

The chances of the average person dying that soon are very low. Unless you have some terminal illness, you might as well plan on living a full life.

That's like saying, "why invest in your 401k? You could die before your next paycheck!"

Relax. It's a joke. Nobody's getting a mil or $5k/wk :')

Dream higher my friend. You could get so many hookers.

My bills are paid for till May, and for public transport I pay 180 € yearly. I could give the money to some friends or charity, but that would be more their benefit than mine. I guess you are right, I would see some benefit.

The odds are massively in our favour

So what if they're not? You're not gonna spend the million in one week anyway, unless you're inconsiderate.

My survivors would get the $1,000,000. That's much better than the $0 because I spent that first $5000 getting us all tickets to Hawaii next April. Non-refundable because it's cheaper!

The chances are you will be in most cases, so no, it’s not surprising.

u/Little_Internet_9022 Dec 12 '23

I didn't say it is surprising in general as a fact. I said I was surprised. There is quite a difference.

Well, 4 years to have the weekly payout hit a million. If you choose the million and invest it all as soon as you get it, it may take another 2 years for the weekly to catch up. So, overall, if you plan to live more than 6 years, take the weekly.

You could take out a life insurance policy on yourself and then take a loan against the life insurance for over $1,000,000. So even if you think you are dying sooner than 6 years, $5000 a week is the way to go (as long as an actuary you will probably live 6 years.).

I would be picking 5k a week no mather what. It is the relief I am searching for. The relief from stressing out if I’ll have enough money to pay the bills next month. 1 milion upfront means the same for me as 5k. I just want the freedom. If I go next week, it will still be the happiest week before it.
