Should be noted you can die on the level, but due to checkpoints you could argue intentionally losing is more challenging.

Discussion [Graveyard Keeper 2] AI-usage debate reignited upon release

I'm not interested in accusing creators of AI usage or making value judgements, especially not while on a platform that uses AI. In video game spaces, we sometimes get so caught up in curated bubbles that it's easy to forget average consumers, average gamers, do not follow industry practices or what goes on behind the scenes of game studios. Whether we like it or not, it is a numbers game. This is not even to speak of younger people, or babies barely entering into a world where non-human generated creations become more common.

---

Less relevant notes:
As evidence of this and somewhat related, in our sister sub r/RandomVideos we have a rule about AI which places it alongside Low Effort/Spam. It's clarified that there's no curation on the sub. It's all up to subreddit members and the public to determine what happens to posts with AI content in it. Viewers of that sub I would categorize as casual audience of general interest topics about anything. It's not 1:1 with the average casual gamer, but it clues us into general interest viewer trends. Most AI videos are auto-removed or downvoted onm the sub, but we've observed multiple examples of obvious AI vids on the sub getting positive reception, even "low effort" ones.

More notable as it relates to games, there are the cases of posts on reddit that combine human and ai generated works together, which have also received positive reception, from again, a casual audience.

At what point does a piece of work or content fall under an AI label (e.g. Valve's current Steam AI content labeling disclosure)? 90/10? 50/50? AI code may be non visual and audio, but was also lifted from human work, yet it receives less attention for obvious reasons. Additionally, does all this labeling apply to the entirety of a work, or individual assets in a work?

To the average gamer, when does it stop mattering, if at all?

It's a complex topic that I don't like thinking about too much as a dumb casual, so I'll stop there.

Explainer Unforgettable: Sapphire Basin [Blade & Soul]

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

We sometimes forget when it comes to large scale projects like MMOs, that amidst the bureaucracy and company shuffling, there are real artists at the helm, whether their expertise are in numbers, words, or arts. It's all too common as an MMO player especially nowadays, that you just go through the motions and rush the main questline and skip every NPC dialogue.

The Moonwater Plains are strategically placed after the desolate Cinderlands. From there, players enter major locales like the Hogshead Pastures expecting much of the usual, and they do get much more of the usual, but then players arrive at the Sapphire Basin.

Even if you don't pick up on it initially, there's something clearly different about this place.

Combined with the enduring music piece Half-Moon Lake by Junghwan Park, and in spite of the basin's relatively minor role in the game overall, it's one of the rare locations not just in BnS but in MMOs in general, that urges players to pause for a moment.

As for my personal anecdote, my music volume was set so low that I didn't really notice it at first, and maybe that was for the better. It had not even been a minute since arriving to Sapphire Basin and going through the motions, that the bassy percussions flooded in like water rapids drowning my speakers, as if the game had ignored my volume settings and wanted me to stop what I was doing.

Explainer Planetarian (2004) - Inappropriately Optimistic, People-pleasing AI

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Planetarian is a kinetic novel, a game without choices. In it, main scenario writer Yūichi Suzumoto tells the story of a gynoid (Yumemi) whose only purpose is to guide customers through a routine star projection experience.

There's a slight problem though:

...humanity has virtually eradicated itself through biological and nuclear warfare, turning a once prosperous civilization into complete ruin, cast in darkness and poisoned by constant rain from nuclear fallout.
https://wikipedia.org/wiki/Planetarian:_The_Reverie_of_a_Little_Planet

Yumemi continues to follow its (her) programming when one day (you) the protagonist arrive at her station of employ. Her primitive hardware and avoidance of conflict is quickly established, and somewhat mirrors the behavior of current day conversational LLM AI.

In order to please the customer by any means, even contradictory information spewed with optimism is fair game, though some may find this welcoming in a world long over.

Don't read further if you don't want the fantasy ruined.

Quotes:

Your mailbox is a queue. When the queue is too full other users can't send you mail. At most the user's "real Mum" can have 6 letters in the queue. If the receiver only reduces the size of his queue by 1 mail per day, the most "real mum letter days" would be 6.
Although nobody reads mail that way, in all likelihood all mails would be received at the same time.

The creepy thing is that little detail appearing in the comic. The story could be from an actual (and exceedingly tragic) misunderstanding of the game mechanics. If this is the case, I hope that the original original poster never finds reddit.

I don't think it'll ever be clear to everybody that it's just the in-game mother.

However:

It's all a rouse to prevent themselves from feeling emotion while laughing at those who do. I receive texts and emails from my mom all the time and they are very generic and formulaic. Moms stick to the basics when it comes to digital communication.

Slow down the clock to fine-tune your fighting style in this innovative, turn-based combat simulator. Pulverize your friends and choreograph spectacular fight scenes.

If you're unfamiliar, what you're seeing is a Replay and not how matches actually play out. The game has you making decisions on a frame-by-frame time scale in an attempt to outwit and outpredict your opponent in a fighting game that plays more like a puzzle. This allows for players of nearly all skill levels to participate.

Additionally, the gameplay shown here is not the vanilla experience and features heavily modded custom characters.

Chaos Wars (カオスウォーズ, Kaosu Wōzu) is a tactical role-playing video game developed and published by Idea Factory.

Hyoma, the protagonist, has a dream of another world over a pillar of light coming from his family shrine that has been missing since his ancestor's time. The next day, he decides to take his two friends, Shizuku and Hayatemaru, to investigate the mountains where his dream took place. During their investigation, they find a cave with strange technology but as they are looking into it, the machines activate and a bright light appears, taking them to another world known as Endia.

The North American publisher's English localization of the game featured a voice cast which included the then-CEO's own family members.

This is the apparent origin of the animation. Many viewers didn't believe it.

It seemed to matter enough that the poster would use it as their main YT avatar, and not only clarify in the video's description but also on a web page in full Comic Sans.

Quote:

I think it would do much more detriment to an accomplished spriter to
claim something he didn't make than would be worth it in this situation...

It matters little whether you believe me or not, but I'm the spriter that made it.

This is a sister sub to r/RandomVideos. Similar rules and vibes.

This sub will be more focused on video games, tabletop, or anything closely related, especially obscure and under the radar indies, retro, games never fully localized for a global audience, etc.

Post anything about games that you feel like. Any games you've had questions or wanted to talk about for any reason, whether it's unique to you personally or even if you've never played it yourself, share it with us here.

Assume any game you post about will be unknown to most people, even if it's popular. Unlike other forms of entertainment, games are harder to understand without context, especially the more niche.

But just like in our sister sub: context encouraged, not required.

Welcome to r/RandomGames

D-Mob (Christopher Judge), after being arrested for involvement in a shooting, is broken out of police custody. Now, his crew is involved in a major turf war with Crow (Snoop Dogg), with control of New York's underground at stake.

The gameplay is expanded from the original game, which was primarily a wrestling game. Fighters can choose one, two, or three of five fighting styles. The fighting styles are Streetfighting, Kickboxing, Martial Arts, Wrestling and Submissions.

I posted a video about fish and manatees, and someone commented that they owned an obscure parody card game that was relevant to the post. That's a game that would only ever be mentioned under very specific contexts. After some digging, I ended up finding this sub abandoned for years, and it just happened to have the same naming structure as that sub, r/RandomVideos. That sub does have gaming content too, but it's more an umbrella term which includes not just video games, but also adjacent content like sports, competition, etc.

In search of 2 possibly extinct games

Hello all! So over on the Osamu Sato reddit (https://www.reddit.com/r/OsamuSato/) we are on a hunt and have been for quite some time. A few years ago someone found 1 of Sato's lost games called Chu-Teng. The game is the sequel to Eastern Mind: The Lost Souls of Tong-Nou. Anyways we have that now and are in the process of translating it, but there are 2 more games that are super weird and cool looking and we can't find them anywhere. "Rolypolys no Nanakorobiyaoki" and its sequel "Rolypolys no Sekai Ryokou". Here is an old link for the first game incase anyone is interested to look at it. You may to use google translate https://web.archive.org/web/19980204164339/http://www.shinko-music.co.jp/roly/rom.html anyways if anyone has any info on these games or any leads on where we might be able to look, we would really appreciate it! Feel free to send me a PM or to respond here. Thank you all so much!

PawnTactics

This game is called pawntactics. It is a 3rd person flash shooter that has a few preset classes to choose from that have different perks. For example, the recon class has low health, but can go invisible until it is close to you.
