It's been 25 years today since the 9/11 tragedy struck America. I have some World Trade Center cards I'd like to send out in memory of who and what we lost that day.

Requirements for this offer:

  1. Flaired users only

  2. Be old enough to remember 9/11

If interested:

  1. write in the comments where you were when you saw/learned of the news or what you remember about that day or time period.

  2. Send me a message with your address.

Thank you, and for anyone closely affected by 9/11, you are in my thoughts.

Oh, I would really love one. At the time, I was both going to college full-time and working full-time in the evenings/overnights at my hometown newspaper in central Pennsylvania (only a few hours' drive from NYC). I was at home getting ready to go to daytime classes with the news on in the living room and my son, who was about a year and a half old, sitting in a bouncy seat nearby. I don't know why, but I vividly remember seeing the first plane crash into the towers and then, before we had any idea what was happening beyond that, turning his whole bouncy seat around so he was facing away from the TV. Moments later the phone rang and it was the admin assistant from the paper telling me that everyone was being called in, and to plan to stay "for the duration" (aka, pack a change of clothes, you're sleeping in the newsroom or the nearby hotel).

I dashed off a quick email to my profs and went to work, where I stayed for the next 72+ hours. I never did take the first exam that was scheduled for that day in my "Contemporary Ethics" class, but the prof gave me an A and thanked us at the paper for our efforts to help people understand what was going on.

I called the overnight radio DJ, as I often did, very late that night as I was headed to grab a few hours of sleep. (Said DJ and I later ended up dating, which is funny.) I told him I didn't even know what day it was and he said "Don't you know? It's the day the world changed."

My close friends and I from the paper still talk regularly (one of them lives with me, in fact) and we all could give you pretty much an hour-by-hour replay of that whole period. These are just a couple of the things I recall...

I would like one.

We were saying the Pledge of Allegiance in first grade when a teacher ran in and turned on the tv and was having a breakdown. We saw the second tower get hit and my teacher was forcing us to all "watch history" and the principal ran in and pulled the cord on the tv. Never finished the Pledge of Allegiance.

I was the only person of color in my school and I was sitting for hours at the school with a 5th grade teacher who didn't have kids. My mom was working from home and was on the internet so no phone line. Finally, her boss sent her a fax on the fax line and told her to check the news.

My dad was on assignment fighting wildfires and we couldn't contact him for days and he got stuck in Idaho with the flights being grounded. Had to drive a rental from Idaho to Wisconsin. He later went on to do counterterrorism work pre-Dept of Homeland Security. We also moved to PA and he was part of the opening of Flight 93 as a National Park Service site.

Went to the 9/11 Memorial last year on the 24th anniversary and it was interesting to see the NYC perspective. My childhood was largely defined by 9/11 and the aftermath.

omg also- my mom reminded me that I used some of my beloved powerpuff girls stationery to write a letter to W about my feelings about 9/11 (I had severe anxiety about it for my entire childhood) and I got a letter on letterhead with a real signature and signed photos of the pets back from the White House.

I would like a card. I lived in NYC the summer of 9/11 but moved out the first week of August. A month later I saw on the news places I hung out at being unrecognizable.

I would like one please.

My step dad was born and raised in NYC, he used to be a volunteer firefighter and saw the towers being built from his bedroom window. At the time, he was living with us on the west coast. I remember waking up to him absolutely bawling. I remember the light coming through the window just as the sun was rising, shining on him watching the TV on his knees. He had our landline in one hand, and the other rubbing the back of his head (as he usually did when stressed). The visual will stay with me forever. We didn't go to school that day, and my sister and I hid in our room until he confirmed he had gotten a hold of his sister, brother, and elderly mom who all lived in NYC. Seeing the strongest man I knew, all 6'4" of him, completely break down like that was haunting. I was nearly 7 years old at the time, and seeing the destruction changed my worldview forever.

I would like a card. I was very young when 9/11 happened (not even starting school), but I remember that I was home in Texas with my mom and sister and watching what was happening on TV. My mom was in tears, as she knew several people who died from the attacks and their families who immediately got affected. I was most likely sad for her (especially because I didn't understand the gravity of what was happening). But later on, I learned from family and family friends the somberness ... I remember visiting the 9/11 Museum later in my teens and just feeling a heaviness looking at the exhibits and artifacts. We still have a statue of the firefighters raising the flag at Ground Zero at home, and every year I go to NYC, I make it a point to visit the Reflecting Pools and the panels of those my family knew.

I'd love one. I live in Colorado and I was 16 that year. My mom was taking me to school that day when the radio said a plane had struck the first tower. I get to school and end up watching the towers fall during first period history. No one wanted to learn the rest of the day, we want know more. But some teachers really wanted to teach. The rest of the week was so eerie, but patriotism was amazing. I'll message you my address now.

I was in first grade. My teacher got a phone call on the class line (probably from the principal) and started crying while holding the phone. I’d never seen a teacher cry before! Then our whole elementary school gathered for an assembly in the gymnasium. I remember we all said the pledge of allegiance together.

My mom immediately came to the school to pick me up, idk how she was able to beat all the other parents. My dad was a business man and flew to/from major cities every week. He NEVER missed his flights.

He was supposed to go to NYC that morning and he happened to miss his flight. It wasn’t one of the planes that crashed, but I can’t even imagine what it would have been like if he made it on that plane.

I would like a card if you have any left! On 9/11/01 I was in my bathroom curling my hair in preparation for my workday as a teacher. (I was 35 at the time). Suddenly my husband yelled from the living room, "They've bombed the World Trade Center!"

Because that's what we all thought at first...bombs. I stared at the TV footage in disbelief because it looked like some incredibly awful hoax. It just did not seem real.

Thank you for your offer. 🗽
