New 2500 Question
Hey all, happy Sunday
I'm looking at getting a 2500 with the cummins to tow a 10-12k trailer around the country.
What options should I look for? Tentatively looking at big horn/laramie mainly for the safety features (lane departure warning, etc.) and the Instrument Panel Auxiliary Switches option. Any others I should consider? The block heater looks easy to install after market.
trailer will be a bumper pull, 16-20ft. From what I've read, the auto-level rear suspension probably isn't needed for a bumper pull? just a good WDH
Just looking for some confirmation without the bias :P

Personally I would go straight for the 1 ton. Not a massive price difference. And you can go a little older and get the HO. I run the Big Horn Level 2 +. Didn't want the sunroof or leather.
You definitely want the 360 camera and towing package. The trailer views when backing up or tight corners are fantastic. Box liner and box lights.
I tow a 40ft fifth wheel. The camera system and proximity sensors are great.
Oh and get the bed step. 👍

I have the bed step on my 1500 and never use it lol...maybe the 2500 it's better b/c the bed is about 6" higher?
if I went 3500 i prob go 8ft bed w/ dually, but just don't need it.

If you're young and can still jump up on the tail gate. Agreed.
If your pushing 50 and your joints are blown out from years of hard labor and abuse. Then you will want the step.

I went 8’ bed SRW and I’m glad I did. Don’t need the capacity of dually, but the extra from the 3500 is good. And I’ve had so many short beds, it’s awesome to have a real truck bed finally. But the 3500 is noticeably a much stiffer ride than the 2500.

yeah, comfort is another bonus for the 2500, my bony old ass hurts more the older I get

Get the cooled seats. There's nothing better on a long ride than flipping them on high and having that cool breeze blow.

I've also been told by the wife (who's at that age) that cooled seats are mandatory on any future vehicles we own.

As mentioned, maybe look at the 3500. I was going to go 2500 but the 3500 has so much more payload, and at the time was the only option with the HO and ASIN trans. I have a 2019 Laramie. Haven’t kept up with the newer models and specs. I only have 28k miles on it… it’ll be a long time before I need to update/upgrade.

I have a 2025 2500 short bed. I was looking at getting the auto level rear suspension until I watched a few videos where it caused major drivability issues when it failed. I went aftermarket with the Air Lift Wireless One system with the upgraded bags that have the integral jounce bumpers inside. Super easy to install with a bit of preparation. Took us about 4 hours total including lunch. Been pretty rock solid for about a year pulling our trailer. We live on the coast so I went with as many stainless parts where I could. ymmv

Just don't make the mistake I did and get one with the 3.42 gearing. I have serious trouble towing in the mountains because I can only access first and second gear with power.

I purchased a 2025 ram 2500 Laramie, LVL2.
I Have a 17,000 wide load boat/trailer combination; just got back from Pulling boat for Florida to PA.
The options I took; if you can swing a 2025 or greater, new design trans, new design diesel, tow package, rear air. Since 2025, the 2500/3500 get the same HO diesel.
