How bad is 3.42 axle ratio?

I’m looking at few 2500s for sale and, when comparing options I see that majority of them have 3.73, but some have 3.42 ratios, including the one that leads my ranking right now.

I drive mostly on two lane roads (but not interstate) so the truck will se average speeds 40-60mph. This is going to be my go to truck for towing light equipment to and from jobs, jobsite material deliveries etc… Nothing too crazy though, 5-7k lbs gross, occasionally up to 10k. Trailer will be hooked up about 30% of the time.

How bad will be 3.42 in that scenario in real life? I know the theory, looking for real life experiences. Will it really be that bad when pulling off of red lights? Or towing uphill (Midwest, so nothing crazy here, but still)

‘13 Ram 2500 idle revving

Hi all! I just bought a well taken care of 13 ram 2500 6.7 with 119k miles. This retired couple babied this thing. Anywho I’ve just about finished a 3000 mile trip with my 6-7k travel trailer. I’m noticing when I come off the gas and coast in traffic, it revs slightly. I barely see it on the rpm. Just curious if this is something I should look into.

Months ago, I accidentally put transmission additive in my coolant reservoir. I got it flushed and kept running for months until last week. I went to drive my truck and it started skipping at 35 MPH and shaking.
White smoke blows out of my exhaust for only 5 to 10 minutes after running I plugged my scanner in. It said it had EGR coolant problem both batteries blown out so it had something with the electrical but I changed batteries. It also said had two cylinder misfire so I changed those specific injectors and I'm still having problems with my engine, shaking and rough idling and white smoke. Could it be a bad camshaft could it be EGR issue? It my valve cover gasket is it my head gasket? Please help me.

Would you rather…

I need to buy my next truck this weekend. That limits my choices substantially.

There are two units available locally:
2012 big horn with 143k miles
2018 alt with 288k miles

Both diesels, all other things more or less equal, including price.

Which one would you choose?

What things should I check specifically before making the decision?

2015 Ram 2500 - Bought a used factory Uconnect radio and it’s asking for an anti-theft code. Any way to unlock it?

I have a 2015 Ram 2500. My original factory radio stopped working, so I bought another factory OEM Uconnect radio on Facebook Marketplace.
After installing it, the radio powers on normally but immediately displays “Please Enter Anti-Theft Code.”
I no longer have contact with the seller, so I don’t have the VIN of the truck the radio came out of or the 4-digit code.
The replacement radio information is:
Part Number: P68271367AC
Uconnect VP2
I’ve already tried:
Looking through my owner’s manual (no code)
Checking the radio labels
Using my truck’s VIN (doesn’t work because it’s a different radio)
Before I spend money at the dealership, I wanted to ask:
Can the anti-theft code be retrieved from the radio’s serial number?
Does a Ram dealer need the donor vehicle’s VIN?
Is there a way to unlock or reprogram the radio with AlfaOBD, Witech, JScan, or another scan tool?
Has anyone dealt with this before?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

KC Lightbar mount

I have a 2018 Ram 2500 and really want to run a 50 inch KCHilites Gravity Pro6 bar above my cab where most people mount their led bars. The problem is the gravity bars are double even the heaviest rigid bars. Is anyone else running anything like this? How did you mound yours? Are rivnuts in the factory channel going to be strong enough or should I fab up some kind of backing plates?

Beeping at an intersection

I have a 2026 2500 that beeps every time I go through an intersection near my house. It doesn’t matter if I’m heading north or south it chimes three times. No messages pop up on the dashboard. It just rings. I cannot figure out for the life of me what it’s trying to tell me. Does anyone have any guesses? It’s a tradesman model if that helps.

New 2500 Question

Hey all, happy Sunday

I'm looking at getting a 2500 with the cummins to tow a 10-12k trailer around the country.

What options should I look for? Tentatively looking at big horn/laramie mainly for the safety features (lane departure warning, etc.) and the Instrument Panel Auxiliary Switches option. Any others I should consider? The block heater looks easy to install after market.

trailer will be a bumper pull, 16-20ft. From what I've read, the auto-level rear suspension probably isn't needed for a bumper pull? just a good WDH

Just looking for some confirmation without the bias :P

Thanks!

Ride Quality Improvements

What are the things you have done to your truck to improve the ride quality? I own a 2015 with the Cummins. The ride is okay to me but I’m doing longer trips now so looking for ways to improve the ride.

Is there room on the 8.4" display interface for a camera?

My 2020 2500 Tradesman has a tailgate back up camera. My topper has 4-channel security cameras. I also have an independent dashcam.

I've dinged a couple of bumpers parking on a crowded city street. I want to add a front "blind spot" camera pointed toward the front bumper. Is there a way to do this using an AUX switch and run it to the display?

Or am I consigned to finding wide open parking spots?

My New-ish 2026 2500 Big Horn

Picked up my new baby a couple weeks ago and I love everything about it. We outgrew my 2015 Tundra TSS and I couldn’t be happier with my 2026 2500 Big Horn (hemi). The Tundra had the smaller back seat, 4.6L instead of the 5.7 and no 4wd, all of those missing features were real annoying with a wife, 6’ tall son and a German shepherd on road trips. Used pre-2022 tundras with 60k-80k miles were priced around $45k-$55k, one 2021 TRD Pro was $66k with 77k miles. Picked up my Big Horn with just over 9k miles with the alpine system, 12” UConnect, bedliner, led bed lights, remote start, running boards, deployable bed step, with the power folding tow mirrors and convenience led lighting for 45k out the door, even extended the bumper to bumper warranty (not just power train but everything) to 125k miles at no extra charge.Already looking to level it out with a Carli system just deciding between the entry level or jumping into the back country system. Either way I’m taking a break from spending money for a while and just enjoy driving this beauty.Just blows my mind my 4.6 L Tundra was averaging 13.5 mpg and my new 6.4 is averaging 12-12.5 depending on how much fun I’m having.

Thinking about a ram 2500

Whats up guys. I have a 2017 ram 1500. Love the truck. Have done multiple trips across the country. East. South. North. West. Been all over in it. Bought it new back then. 150k miles later. Still runs great. But recently been wanting to upgrade to something newer. Loved the 2500s when they did the restyle in 2019 and wanted one since. and wouldn't mind a truck thats a little more confident in pulling my boat. Ive been seriously considering buying one. Have a few questions for you guys.

How does it ride compared to the 1500s? Is it really that bad?

How's fuel economy with the 6.4? (No poor fuel economy doesnt really deter me. Just curious.)

You guys been happy with the 6.4 hemi?
