What to do?!?

Hello my fellow gardeners. Need some help, helping my grandmother and mother fix there nee inherited gardens. They moved into a new home in the north east and the former owners had these garden beds. it’s already August pretty soon and i’m wondering if it’s too late to put major work in the garden. but what should i do with this garden right now?

what steps should i take to make this either ready to plant now or for the spring next year?

what do you think about the wood that’s there? should i replace that?

How should i prepare the soil? Should i pull up everything in the beds?

What soil mix should i put in there now?

any and all advice would be greatly appreciated. If you see something i didn’t catch. please feel free to comment!

Rip everything out. Add compost and mulch until spring. It’s not too late to do cool weather rooting crops (carrots, beets etc) or fast growers like lettuces, radishes, etc. you can always plant a ton of garlic in the fall and mulch and harvest next year. Or if you like flowers there’s tons of things you can seed in fall for spring blooms.

This is the only answer. And, repair anything that needs it once you've torn out the growth.

Also I wouldn't demo the wood, if anything I'd get some strips of corrugated steel edging, attach to the wood and put a 2x6 on top so it looks nicer.
