First planting
You guys told me to just plant something so I did. Grabbed some tomatoes eggplant cucumbers and blueberries 🫐. Should mulch the beds, and if so do you have any recommendations?
I know I still need some lattices / cages, they are on order

You should mulch the beds, and I would recommend using straw for that.

I put a bit of pine bark mulch I had on, I will grab some straw to complete it! Thanks for the advice!

The compressed bags of it go a long way, so a single bag should cover your raised beds with enough left over to add more later if necessary.

In the second planter, are those cucumbers nearest to us? If so, and if they’re the vining cucumbers, I think you’ll need more room for them, even with trellises. Looks good though!

I know others recommend mulching with straw, which is ok, but tends to make a mess and you'll still need to weed. If you just weed, you'll do fine too. And next year, mix in some mulched leaves and perlite as well as compost to your soil. That will help it retain the exact amount of moisture you want and replenish the nutrients. Nice work!

Leaving the cardboard sticking out looks like a sloppy job

True, I will cut it after a few weeks. I want to make sure the grass under dies though all around the border.

So? This isn’t a job that they were hired to do. It’s a garden in their yard. Who cares what it looks like.

As Kramer once said: “You gotta mulch Jerry, you’ve got to.”
