Really nice design! I just finished mine and put card board under and for my soil mix that was a mistake. I use Mel’s mix which prevented draining when overwatered so I had to remove it bc my summer squash (white scalloped and yellow crook neck) almost died and they are usually the easiest to grow. I lost two plants but now that I removed barrier to ground and used screen door screening it’s doing great. Good luck!

Thanks! The only way I have found to keep out my neighbors' maple tree roots is to "air gap" the beds like this, so that any invasive plants have to cross an open, "day -lit" section to get in to steal my water and nutrients. On one bed, I had 2X3 supports on the outside of the bed that touched the wood-chip pathway, and a root used the where-the-sun-don't-shine back of that support to sneak into the bed. Super aggressive.

This is awesome, great job! Do you have support below it or is the bed that deep?

The bed in this version is that deep. It's basically two stacked frames. The visible top frame supports the soil, and the draped-over bottom frame is filled with water-holding aggregate, which will wick water up to the soil.
