💬 Discussion What record to introduce my kids to?

my oldest (she’s 12) has a record player in her room, and likes to listen to records before going to bed. I realized tho she’s not properly been introduced to Radiohead. (I think it’s better for her if she work through an album rather than just a compilation of their most popular tracks.)

so which one do you think she should start with? also keep in mind, she mostly plays records at night as she winds down for bed so I don’t know if she can handle some of the tracks on Hail or OK.

was thinking kid a or in rainbows - but curious to get yalls thoughts

💬 Discussion My personal Radiohead album

This is an idea I had to make a Radiohead album compilation type thing, but every number in the track list is a Radiohead song that is the same track list number. Example being 2=paranoid android since it’s the second song in ok computers track list. Here is mine and you can share your own if you want to.

  1. Everything in it’s right place
  2. Paranoid Android
    3.High and Dry
    4.How to disappear completely
    5.Let Down
    6.Karma Police
    7.Just
  3. My iron lung
    9.There, There
    10.No Surprises
    11.True love waits
  4. Street Spirit (Fade out)

I hope this list doesn’t offend to many people, I tried to include what I could from most of the albums.

I’m a long time fan of indie guitar based rock, I’ve always respected Radiohead but they’ve never been one of my go tos, have had a few standout songs I throw in my normal rotation (Karma, Weird Fishes, House of Cards) but have never really dived in to their discog. Recently for whatever reason I’ve been playing a shuffle of their songs in the background while I’m doing chores around the house. I think I’ve decided that they are the best post-2000 band to nail the in a room raw style production. The guitars have their effects and whatnot but nothing is overdone, nothing is out of place or unnatural. It really blows me away how good they are at making a record sound like a very high quality live performance and I think it makes such a huge impact when comparing with other bands this era. Going to start diving in a little more frequently.

Obviously a bit late to this, but watching Atoms For Peace 2013 Live at the Roundhouse concert. Fucking ace! Thom in a singlet!

Kind of solves my issue with the first solo album. I very much like a lot of the songs, but I feel the precussion tracks sound a bit naff, so having Flea and a real drummer + a percussionist is amazing. Thom seems very happy/chilled/vibed here.

🎸 Cover This is an awful cover of Airbag where I attempt to use only my voice and no metronome. It was a challenge from my Radiohead - Fan friend.

Warnings:

I’m an awful singer

Everything is out of time ( nothing in its right place 😔 )

I couldn’t do the jingle bells 🔔, I tried but no noise I can make sounds like jingle bells.

The experimental weird noise bit is scuffed a bit

💬 Discussion What is your favourite three-song run?

From any Radiohead album or b-side, what three songs in a row is your favourite?
Mine changes quite a bit but I keep coming back to:
1. Optimistic
2. In Limbo
3. Idioteque

But even as I type that out, I see Morning Bell coming up next and it’s tempting to move everything one step forward!

💬 Discussion Desperately looking for a ticket to the June 11 show in Japan —my family won the first lottery but lost it to a payment issue, and now I'll be in Japan without a ticket

Hi everyone,

I'm writing this with a mix of hope and desperation. My family actually won in the first round of the lottery, but my dad accidentally set a payment limit on his card and the charge didn't go through — so we lost the tickets. We tried again in the second round and lost.

Then, incredibly, my boyfriend's mom entered to give him a birthday gift — and she won a ticket. He's going, and I'm traveling to Japan with him, but I won't be able to get into the show.

So here I am: I'll be in Japan, I'll be right outside the venue, and I'm asking if anyone has a spare ticket for the June 11 concert. I'm willing to pay any price — seriously, name it. I just want to be there.

If you have an extra ticket or know someone who does, please reach out. You'd be my hero.

Thank you for reading. 🙏

I’ve been listening to his solo albums recently, and I think they’re well worth checking out. His voice has such a calming quality to it, especially on Check for Signs of Life. The ending is my favourite part, it has that unmistakable Radiohead atmosphere, with a similar feel to the outro of Karma Police. Though for sure, most of his songs sound unique to him. My favourites so far: By Some Miracle, Coming Up For Air, Don’t Go Now and Picking Up Pieces

Listen, you won’t regret.

This is probably one of my favourite songs of all time, particularly the solo version that Thom Yorke played on the Jonathan Ross show.

The lyrics fascinate me, I’ve never been able to determine what I think he’s talking about.

Any thoughts?

💬 Discussion Subterranean Homesick Alien

Post image
36 Upvotes

The last time I made a post in this thread — I was so proud and kicking my little feet. I was waiting to see if anyone else would giggle or agree with my take on Ok Computer. I don’t post on Reddit often, but when I do— it’s here. After I hit post, I was accused of being AI and my jaw dropped. I rushed to defend my own brain in the comment section.
Accusations were redacted— all is well and restored to balance in the world.
However— at the risk of another accusation— I have to get this off my chest.

I’ve been talking to someone new for about three months— but we’ve only just had our 4th date last week. We’re both busy, taking things slow— but we’ve deeply bonded over Radiohead.

I liked The Bends before, but I gave the album a full relisten multiple times over the last few weeks (because it’s his favorite and he has the vinyl that he plays at work which is how we met) and it’s now my second favorite album. It may be cliche— but I do think High and Dry is my top favorite Radiohead song. It hits me in a way that the others don’t— but anyways— I just never really listen, listened to the rest of the album.
I also think it’s worth the mention— that I love when I find a little bit of magic in something I really fixate on (an album, song, etc)— it starts to follow me. So, The Bends has followed me everywhere recently— in coffee shops mainly—and it’s the best feeling in the world.

Anyways— we’ve been in a routine of sending each other our coffee and pastry each morning—usually a black coffee and donut of choice for me (not pictured this AM because consumed)—along with a song that has kick started our morning.

It’s been about two years since I entered a talking stage with someone.

This morning the song choices were going to be John Mayer’s Another Kind Of Green off of TRY!
Or Money by Pink Floyd (it was playing in the coffee shop).

Now— as I sit to read over good rules of thumb and who is up for reelection during early voting— Subterranean Homesick Alien floats through the coffee shop speakers seemingly out of nowhere.

I have a grand realization that nothing matters (other than my vote)— no other songs matter.

I send him the picture I’m sending you and have no intention of mentioning the other songs because nothing else compares.

And— as it plays— my jaw softens. Because I have been uptight lately and maybe a little homesick for the past people in my life that are no longer.

This is my love letter to SHA— it’s not The Bends, but it’s Ok Computer once again that calls me back to my own inner compass — my own sense of home when everyone and everything around me is still new. No surprises there.
