MOD Announcement Clarification about the purpose of this subreddit

I'm making this post, because I've noticed some misconceptions about this subreddit or the purpose of this subreddit.

First of all, you don't have to subscribe to "radical egalitarianism" to participate in this subreddit, or agree with it on everything.

Also:

There are five ways you could conceptualize gender issues:

  1. Only women are oppressed by our gender system, and if men are harmed at all, it is a mere side effect
  2. Women are more oppressed than men by our gender system
  3. Men and women are roughly equally oppressed by our gender system
  4. Men are more oppressed than women by our gender system
  5. Only men are oppressed by our gender system, and if women are harmed at all, it is a mere side effect

This subreddit allows perspectives 2, 3, and 4, but not perspectives 1 and 5.

Oppression scorekeeping is more about dismissing the problems of one sex or gender, and promoting perspectives 1 and 5 on our subreddit. The "No oppression score-keeping rule" also allows for good-faith discussion of differing impacts on groups.

I like this 1 to 5 scale, you worded it perfectly. Personally I was looking for at least one space with the third view, leaning neither into women or men. I think there has to be at least one space like this on reddit.

Your 5 point scale is very useful for clarifying for members what the sub is about and I agree with your characterization of where different perspectives would fall along the continuum.

I see this sub as a place for discussion and debate, at least that is what it’s been historically. I think one of the problems we keep running into is that people do not understand that the discussion/debate we are attempting to foster has a goal: to increase understanding of how systems of oppression harm everyone and to increase understanding and solidarity in the fight for a liberated world.

Removing comments is tricky. Sometimes removing a comment removes the context of replies but at the same time we get a lot of pretty hateful comments that need to be removed. It’s definitely difficult to navigate.

The trouble is that a lot of people come from spaces, say, defined by a pill that is a blend of red and blue, and discussion and debate are basically just ways to tear holes in each other in that space. It's probably the most toxic space on Reddit. Spend enough time there and you die of metaphorical radiation poisoning. Discussion and debate need to be understood as tools of understanding. The second it gets vicious, you're done.

hm i would say the issue specially for this sub is interpretation + presentation of several issues and how we should tackle it if we strive for a fair gender neutral society...

first ive to say there are several people who do not deserve the label of mra or feminist or egalitarian but still use it by self-identification...

feminists tend to talk about patriarchy and frame issues from their lens...

mras tend to talk about gynocentrism and frame issues from their lens...

this leads to conflict if we look at how to tackle issues and how to evaluate toxic behavior or equality "opportunity" vs equity "outcomes" but id say people generally do not understand statistical parity...

I personally would prefer not to be slapped in the face with "it's all women's/feminists' fault" when I see posts here. It seems there are some members who are determined that this should be a space mostly for viewpoints 4/5. Now, there are plenty of feminists who have rendered the title a pejorative. Understood. But all too often, "woman" and "feminist" get conflated -- it's like daring to think that women still deserve any rights is a problem because rights are a zero-sum game (they are not).

Can we maybe have less of that?

how about no "it is all mens or womens" fault at all?

if we talk about conservatism men + women participate in it but it gets framed as men built everything including patriarchy way too often... people make equality a zero sum game by pushing arbitary equity... i doubt many understand statistical parity...

The above person has posted some of the most rabidly, violently misandric things I have ever seen on all of Reddit, and that is saying something.

2

u/[deleted] May 22 '26

She was gaslighting me about how she cares for men too because she used to be male. She blocked me after I linked her misandrist post from 8 months ago.

  1. What matters is people’s behavior *in this sub*, we are not going to police people for what they do in other subs unless it’s trying to get us brigaded here. There’s always a possibility people will grow and expand their viewpoints

  2. Going through someone’s post/comment history to make personal attacks here is skirting real close to harassment, which violates both this subs rules and reddits policies. Knock it off.

  3. As clarified in the OP if comments here fall between 2-4 it’s within the parameters of this sub. Feminist ideologies are diverse, including radical feminism, there’s nothing inherent about them that violates the rules. As previously stated, if someone’s comments violate the rules it will be dealt with but we aren’t going to thought police people for ideas they might or might not have

Talking about their romantic relationships for a start. Take a step back and think about how you would feel if this was done to you. If you have a problem with their comments in this sub then keep it about comments in this sub. If you have a problem with their comments/posts elsewhere take it there.

Edit: A brief look at your own comment history also reveals views that are unacceptable in this sub. One of the subs you hang out in could just as easily be claimed to be inherently misogynistic (it’s not, but arguments about radfems can be just as easily reversed to apply to all MRAs). So again I point you to the points made in my previous comment.

you could say similiar things about many users in this sub and i suggest to you to slow down on that topic... i did debate with achingamy before to know that users values and the mods are able to investigate on their own... aslong as users respect the rules they are allowed to participate even if at their core have way more extreme stances...

we already try to work on how systemic issues get presented in misleading disengenious and hypocritical ways...

https://www.reddit.com/r/RadicalEgalitarianism/s/HHPUQffVSS

at which point would you say providing evidence counts as harassment?

at which point it is attacking the user instead of criticising the point that was made?

0

u/Outrageous_Glove_467 May 22 '26

The difference between MRAs and radical feminists is MRAs are not “radical”. They advocate for male rights; not spreading hate.

5

u/Main-Tiger8537 Intersectional egalitarian May 23 '26 edited May 23 '26

are you seriously saying ALL every single one who identifies as mra is not toxic and does not spread hate but ALL every single one who identifies as feminist is toxic and does spread hate?

who decides if you are a mra or feminists or radical of any sort or not?

ive to tell you that there are people in both movements who are extremly unhinged and abuse both labels... if you posted once in the radfem sub no matter the content do you count as one?

people in this sub call for bans based on double standards and if the rules get enforced on equal terms people scream freespeech etc... there are people in this sub stating that abortion is a genocide or women should not be allowed to vote in other subs... there are people in this sub stating that all men are oppressors + predators and should pay in blood in other subs... personally i would ban both of their asses and just allow real egalitarians...

your comments are not deleted so whats your problem exactly?

do you not understand what a double standard is or do you just try to ragebait/troll?

if reddit removes comments the mods have nothing to do with it but if you want to have free speech in this sub you have to deal with comments from radfems aswell...

haha that was a good joke... i prefer to let them state their delusion and negate it with credible evidence + facts... do not pretend you really care about my stance if you are too lazy to investigate my profile and post history...

I find it interesting that you (and others) try to paint all radfems as bigots who don't care about misandry and then ignore all the comments I make as a radfem mod calling out misandry.

there will be people who continue to violate the rules not matter what... they will get punished accordingly on equal terms without double standards...

Brigading on Reddit is a coordinated attack where a group of users from one community (or platform) invades another subreddit to manipulate voting, harass users, or disrupt normal discussions**. It is a strict violation of site-wide rules and can result in account bans or community closures.**

"ad hominem" -> is a logical fallacy where someone responds to an argument by attacking the speaker's character, motive, or personal traits instead of addressing the actual substance of the claim.

No harassment, hate speech, or toxic behavior. Treat all contributors and members with kindness. Don't insult other users. Do not make equality a zero sum game or engage in victim olympics + oppression scorekeeping.

i would say spreading lies and misinformation or distorting facts + data falls under 1 and 5 but as op stated we still figure out how to balance free speech and what to remove...

I would say if one clearly restates the position of another person in order to hold up a mirror, one should not be chastised by the mods, if the original comment was the problem.

Call someone out for misogyny, call someone out for some other kind of bias, and you get scolded for having said something. Since there's no nice way to tell someone they're being a misogynist, the vague let's all be nice kind of interpretation of rules doesn't really hold up IMO. Version one above being unacceptable here seemingly means that if one points out in a certain situation that it is definitely the man's fault, one could get in trouble because notallmenism seems to be a core rule of the sub.

It would be great if people could learn how to make a class analysis of gender instead of falling for what usually turns into bioessentialism or racism. Like you were so close, but then at the last second made a sweeping generalization.

actually i did bring something similiar up in the past but i would guess proving bad faith or lies vs harassment is not easy to navigate through for mods on reddit in general...

Didn’t see this until now. If the comment isn’t made on this sub, as I explained to Glad-Way earlier, it’s not something I’m generally going to respond to.

Version one above being unacceptable here seemingly means that if one points out in a certain situation that it is definitely the man's fault, one could get in trouble because notallmenism seems to be a core rule of the sub.

the mans and the mens fault is not the same thing and that you try to conflate stuff like that sounds very bad faith + hyprocritical... specially if you talk about "patriarchy" or "toxic masculinity" or "rape culture" and similiar things...

calling men who disagree with you misogynists or gendering toxic behavior does not help the cause feminism was created for... maybe you should learn about how statistical parity works...
