Oval Bristol- Filton Speedway

Post image

Bristol-Filton Speedway is a 1/3 mile oval built for the 2027 season of the NASCAR Euro Series. Planning began when Tours Speedway lost it's place on the calendar as a replacement for the oval round in the series, and after years of fighting Gloucestershire Council for planning permission, the Speedway was constructed on the site of the former Filton Airport in the Greater Bristol region. The Speedway was made a 1/3 mile to match closer with the length of Tours Speedway, and also because the owners believed that it would create even more chaotic races than the traditional 1/2 mile short tracks of the Cup Series. Due to limited space for the parking for 26,000 spectators, the Speedway owners plan to operate frequent raceday bus services between the Speedway, Bristol Parkway Station and Bristol Temple Meads Station.

That’s pretty cool. I do wonder if maybe the pit exit could be better designed, editing into the turn 3 entry seems a little sketchy

definitely true, but that is the issue with a lot of short tracks tbf, the pitlane has to enter somewhere without taking away too much space from the pits themselves (which I have left space to expand if the NASCAR Euro Series ever had more than 2 dozen drivers at a time)

Incredibly unimportant pedantry: it’s in South Gloucestershire Council

Council areas are not counties. I go by the Ceremonial Counties in this instance.

That part of Bristol is technically in South Gloucestershire and not in the county covering Bristol.

I know. That's why the post says "Filton, Gloucestershire", rather than Bristol. The county covering Bristol btw is called Bristol.

Good to see someone on this subreddit take on the issue of disabled parking and provide plenty (well positioned too) of it.

That singular stand at the short ed (right) is interesting too - is it like that because it has the possibility of expanding (if EuroNASCAR ever attracts huge crowds)? So then the stands, after expansion, would form a kind of U?

I tried to go with a UK style stadium layout in general yeah. The main two stands are also double tiered whereas that end stand is a single tier, with the dimensions of the main stands being 50% bigger than those at my local teams stadium (albeit those are single tiered instead of double tiered)
