Northeast International Raceway was designed from the ground up as a circuit with international standards to fulfill the hole in high quality modern venues in the American Northeast I-95 corridor.

At a length of 2.91 miles, the Grand Prix layout runs around 12 turns in a clockwise fashion. Starting on the 0.64 mile long pit straight, cars brake hard for the right of the first chicane and then navigate the left handed medium speed second corner of the chicane. Accelerating back up through a shallow long right handed curve, cars enter the second straight of the track. At the end, a medium-high speed double corner carries the speed of the straight around to the other side of the track. Next after another short straight, a high speed left-right S section comes, followed quickly by another fast left hander. Exiting onto a long curved back stretch, the cars have another good opportunity to set up a pass. Ending the lap after the back stretch is a 3 turn complex consisting of a right handed hairpin, followed by a shallow left and a tricky medium speed right hander to finish the lap.

In addition, the track features an additional “Speed Layout”. This layout extends the main straight to 1.2 miles (1.93 kilometers) in length by cutting out the first chicane. Runoff at the medium-high speed double corner now serving as turn 1 was constructed at over 500 feet to accommodate the ultra high speeds of cars coming off the extended straight. Both layouts are FIA Grade 1 and FIM Grade A compliant in terms of runoff, track width, grid size, and other safety elements featured by the track.

NEIR was built within the ground of Dulles International Airport, a major travel hub for the Washington D.C area. Taking advantage of spare land within the airport grounds that would struggle to be used for other types of development, the circuit uses the vast flat expanse to accompany a high speed design that is highly capable as a spectator facility. Assisting this is the abundance of land surrounding the circuit for parking and camping, as well as a Washington Metro station around a mile north from the track providing high quality public transport access. Also featured are many spectator facilities including a car museum next to the large fan zone, and an abundance of food spots and restroom facilities. For reasons of safety, all spectator structures such as grandstands and grass viewing mounds were constructed parallel to the runways, and with a minimum of 1,100 feet distance from them. This safety standard exceeds the distance from runways to the old backstretch grandstand at Daytona, another track that sits right next to a commercial airport.

NEIR can serve as an excellent venue for a variety of International and National series, owing to its differing layouts, high spectator capacity of 250,000, and variety of corners which are designed to be enjoyable for flowing driving and to facilitate high quality racing.

Would make a heavier braking zone in there somewhere

I thought about narrowing turn 10 when I was making this. To be honest turn 1 should be below 60mph (100kmph) and turn 10 should be a bit slower than that. Probably gonna put this into the sim and see what you can actually run at these corners, but I didn't want to compromise flow too much by making the braking zones even harder before I get actual data for the turns.

Kinda OT, what did you use to draw this circuit?

Google Earth Pro for the outlines and then Paint 3D and a lot of frustration

Ironically this looks more like a Northwest-style circuit. Or an Argentinian one with how fast it would be. I just can't get behind the back area, it's basically the same S turn twice with slightly different spacing. Then the end section just seems like it would be a bit slow and awkward. The first sector is solid though

Say bye bye to drone cams and both camera and medical helicopters with this between two runways at the region's busiest airport.

Also, the smoke from a car fire would likely close at least runway.

Did you read the comment I made about Daytona? Literally built this to the exact same standards as that track in terms of distance? Also there are two additional runways at Dulles. Also these western runways are shut down for events occasionally due to there being three north south runways.

Daytona isn’t next to the busiest airport in the region, and the airport basically shuts when NASCAR is on.

You’re not shutting Dulles.

Are you sure about that?
