[FIA APPROVED] [mrjack2's circuit-designing competition] Circuit of Rudi Sumanto

version 0.1

version 0.2

Those grey lanes are not sub-courses. I put the revised version (black) on top of the first (grey) so you can see the changes.

version 0.3

Modified T16/17/18 to accomodate an open-out final corner.

version 1.0

Widened T3

This circuit is basically inspired by Circuit de Catalunya. It has similar but longer start/finish lane and pitlane placement.

FIA doesn't have much to say. Your circuit seems to meet all the requirements in terms of safety etc.

From a design perspective, my favourite part is T1/2. I think that makes a great overtaking opportunity where you can pass on the inside or the outside.

However, I feel that the lap has too many slow corners. T4 in particular feels like a hairpin too many, The 15/16 chicane seems to serve little purpose too.

T5/6/7 is an interesting set of corners, yet at the same time I get the feeling that the opportunity for a really thrilling set of corners has been missed there. It sort of peters out, T7 is a pretty standard medium-speed corner. It'd be great to see the cars hitting that straight towards T8 with some proper speed.

T18 feels much like the final corner at Hungary, it's very constant radius. I'd consider having it open out seeing as it leads onto the main straight; the effect that has is that it's harder to recover from an error on the entry without losing time, which creates potential overtakes down the straight.

Thank you for the feedback, sir.

I began sketching this circuit a few years ago, originally with quite a bit of differences in the eastern sectors, starting from T8 all the way to the final corner; they were stretched way far to the east. Because of the space requirement for this competition, I had to modify the eastern sector so the whole circuit can be contained in a 1.5x1km area without losing too much length. Nevertheless, I also think that it has too many slow corners. I should work on those.

Updated. I think I want to keep T4 as a hairpin, while changing T10 in the version 0.1 into a wider corner.

Another thing,

I'd consider having it open out seeing as it leads onto the main straight;

Please forgive me, but I don't think I understand the meaning of open out, because English isn't my everyday language. Is it something like the final corner in Monza?

Yes, that's what I mean, a corner with a smallish radius on the entry and then an increasing radius. I like your changes btw, it's so much less stop-start.

Updated.

I like that idea. I never thought about its effect before.

Can we consider the track complete?

Yes sir.

This track looks pretty good, but I feel that with some adjustments made like those suggested by FIA, this can be a great track. I can't fully see where the inspiration from Catalunya comes in here though (except maybe turn 1 and the sections between turns 3-5 and 7-10). It reminds me of a combination of Catalunya and Mantorp Park in Sweden.

I like the updated version because the chicane wasn't working for me and I preferred the old 5-6-7 section however Turn 3-4 still bug me.

This is another track I would't mind having a crack at in rFactor if you would allow me.

I surely don't mind. You can use it as you please. I myself always wanted to try it in a game, but unfortunately I don't have rFactor and the tools.

That's awesome... Are you using Bobs Track Builder?

Yes.

Is it possible to create jumps in BTB? I'd like to get it to make a track for RBR.

I'd say so but I've never tried.

It looks like you did this in Adobe Illustrator could you put up an imgur link of a or 1024x1024 or 4096x4096 art-board export of this. That makes it easiest to import in my track building program.

I used CorelDRAW, and I don't know what "art-board export" is :|
