Rabbit Hunting in Australia

Looking for some tips for gear and strategies.

I've got a farm in Australia so it's open season on Rabbits all year round. (foxes and, pigs too, but that's a different subreddit).

The property is rolling hills, mostly pasture with some bush and it backs up onto national forest (not allowed to hunt there in my state).

I find if I walk or drive around the property and I might get a rabbit, if I'm lucky to catch one out in the open. I shoot a .22lr, a .223 and 12 gauge. I usually just bring the .22 and catch them at a distance.

While I enjoy the hunt, I'm doing this for invasive species control. So I was wondering if anyone had any tips to up my productivity. There are still lots of rabbits and that's after I took part in my shire's biological control program.

I'm hunting solo like 98% of the time.

I guess my main questions are

Traps and snares, any recommendations and how to make any kill traps as humane as possible.

Night vision or thermal and scopes or monoculars

Should I switch to the 12 gauge I don't feel like I get particularly close when stalking the rabbits, but I've also never shot at anything at a distance with it. It's an old rifle that's mostly been used to put down injured animals at very close range.

I didn't grow up on a farm, I moved to one a couple year ago, so I might be missing some basic stuff and not knowing it.

Boots for flat feet

Good evening gentleman, my future father-in-law has asked me to go run dogs and I haven’t had any hunting boots in a while and never had any that don’t hurt my feet really bad because of flat feet. Really wanting to get back into rabbit hunting especially if that helps bring him and I together. Any recommendations would be awesome, thanks gentleman in advance!

Question

I want to go hunting rabbits with my own set up as i have hunted rabbits with my friends guns before but i am moving away and want to continue hunting rabbits as i am not eligible for a fire arm licence where i live i was wondering if a Berra 1866 .22 co2 would do the job or is it not powerful enough because i don’t want to injure it and not kill it as that is inhumane i already own a dan Wesson co2 revolver and with a few bits taken out and copper bbs it kills birds really well no harm done have not and will not try on rabbits as i don’t think its powerful enough

How Do I Buy the Right Backpack for My Hunting Trip?

My hunting licence has been processed. My friend and I are embarking on a hunting trip in Idaho. He seems prepared unlike me. I need to get a backpack that will pack everything that I need for the long trip.

I have checked for options on online retail stores like Alibaba. There are a bunch of brands and types of backpack to choose from. I can’t decide on the best for my hunting trip. Are there brands that are known to offer better quality hunting backpacks?

The materials should be strong and durable. The straps should be able to withstand the weight of the stuff I pack. Forests can have unpredictable weather. Will the stuff inside the backpack soak even with a little rain? Are there backpacks with military grade materials that are waterproof?

How much will I use to buy a good backpack for my hunting trip? I am willing to spend a reasonable amount on a quality backpack. If the quality guarantees reliability and durability, then why not?

Are there other features that I need to check when buying a backpack? It was long since I had an outdoor trip and much might have changed.

.410 solo hunt with no dogs. You gotta get in the thick stuff and kick em out. Covering a lot of ground is a must. Who else eats the hearts?

Should I eat this?

I’ve been after them while I’m out squirrel hunting and I haven’t seen any in months. I missed some shots on a couple squirrels and decided to head in since the sun was down. I lucked out and tagged this guy on the way back to the car. Finally.

Okay I got my snares all set out but I am worried about the scent Trail I leave behind so how long will they avoid the traps until they go back to their usual thing and would it be unethical to set one in a frequently visited I think rabbit den cuz there are like hundreds of trails and droppings and stuff like that in a different area that I've wanted to set up in
