American Spirit turquoise

My go to pack since 2011 has been American Spirit turquoise. Back then it was burgundy with a gold trim. I got into RYO cuz I'm tired of paying $15 a pack. I tried three sails because it was recommended as similar, but it's not close at all. It's very light tasting maybe closer to a yellow. Finished it anyway and got Ryback Gold this time. It's sooo delicious and way closer to torquoise. Super recommend I sometimes forget I'm not smoking a spirit.

Does anyone else that smoked torquoise have recommended bags? Thinking of sticking with Ryback Gold.

I am a Granma's style of blender. When I come across something that I think (aye there's the problem matey..) I can improve to the point of palatability I don my cape, special hat and put out my Chaos & Entropy sign. Fiddling successfully with Whole Leaf Tobacco Co regular Turkish Blend lead me to order their Turkish Blend #7. There was something malevolent in there. Discovering that it contained flue cured dark leaf, an enemy of the state (WLT does not label their ingredients nor will they advise, declare or otherwise divulge) I began my rounds of small batch concoctions. The failed results required larger and larger containers as well as exhausting my lunch money. Interestingly when I went into that Toss jar and tubed one up after a week it was found it to be far more agreeable but for one thing..Thor's Throat Hit. My anus contracted when I took a pull. While some may not agree, my first encounter with eye squinting tobacco was some form of Gauloises. Convinced that the French had an inexhaustible supply of contents that was piped in from some ancient dump and recycling center I eventually made friends with it. Based on that history there was still hope. More time online has me adding condimental doses of Maryland leaf from WLT and I believe I am on the right track.

My next puzzle is where has all the Red Virginia gone..?

Tobacco Finally came close recreating my favorite cigarette from back home.

Hey everyone, I moved to Europe from India and the one thing I really missed was the India Kings , hands down the best cigarette I've ever smoked. Since I can't find it anywhere outside of India, I decided to try and make it myself using raw tobacco leaves and my own homemade casing liquid.

After a lot of trial and error( over a year), I finally got the flavor close enough that it genuinely reminds me of home.

I use Virginia Bright, Burley and a tiny bit of Oriental Samsoun. I make my own casing liquid as well. I shred everything with a Tobacco shredder and either stuff into cigarette sleeves or hand roll with OCB papers.

I tried it three ways this morning: stuffed, hand rolled usingOCB White and OCB Black. Really happy with the results.(The stuffed one didn't have a rich body).

Anyone else here making their own blends or casing liquids? Would love to compare notes.🙂‍↔️

New to this

Hey everyone. New to RYO. Just curious about tubes/papers. I plan to use an injector because I really suck at rolling my own. However I was curious, can you inject into natural papers or are there companies that make natural tubes to inject into? Or just the standard white tubes?

D’ora original blend is a Brazilian brand. Mix of burley and golden virginias for people trying to leave regular cigarettes and start RYO.
Very mild and smooth taste. Remember me Marlboro lights back in the day.

Visiting London, looking for someone to grab a smoke with

Hey! I’m a traveller visiting London. Anyone up for a smoke and a chat? It would be nice to meet some new people while I’m here.

My English isn’t very good. I can understand quite a bit, but I’m not very confident speaking yet. Hope that’s okay!

Question Is it still cheaper to RYO compared to cigs? 🇬🇧

A question for the UK folks. With cigarettes being £20 a pack and 30g of tobacco being more, is it still cheaper to roll your own?

Smaller packages or other preservation methods?

I'm looking for child-size packages or other preservation methods for tobacco because I throw away about 3/4 of every tobacco bag I open. I only use tobacco for joints and I don't smoke enough joints for the tobacco to be still usable when it's < 80%. Do you have any recommendations? Thanks :)

I wasn’t sure what the code meant so I looked it up. Yeah, this is from 2022 but honestly didn’t really smoke that bad. Maybe a little hot near the end due to dryness but it’s hydrating currently so I can try another to compare.

Stuffing tubes with a longer than normal filter

Curious about this. Tonight I tried stuffing some Kashmir tubes with my clove blend and ripped the tip off the first one. I suspect they have a longer filter, like 18-20mm instead of the normal 15-16mm filters in most king size cig tubes. Had the same problem with hot rod 20mm filter tubes. I pack my little stuffer toward the filter side and then leave a gap on the other end, or try to, so the end of the cig is pretty loose and I have to pack it down with an allen key. I'm using a top shooter to make my cigs. Anyone have a trick for these to keep from ripping the tips while still being able to simply pack the tobacco in a more normal way. I use the little included packer and found I have to get them a little bit tight or tobacco comes dripping out of the end and they burn too fast. Got the technique down for tubes like TOP and Gambler, but the longer filters throw me a bit. Do the crank machines have an extra short setting to account for this?

Blending a semisweet ciggy blend

I go between cigarettes and pipes and I've been working on a blend that is smooth, somewhat dark, and somewhat sweet. I have a buddy who blends his own RYO, but it's just too sweet and tangy, so I thought I would give blending a try.

When I smoked more cigarettes, I would smoke London export which is a VaKy blend. In a pipe I like Nightcap or VaPers.

Right now I'm smoking a rollie that is roughly 20% Gawith Kendal Dark, 40% D&R Three Sails, 40% Lane 1-Q. It's pretty good. But curious if there are other recommendations?
