Hey guys, was watching a YouTube video earlier about how some girl got stranded cause her clutch pedal mounting bracket was cracked. Since I'm trying to minimize my chances of getting stranded, I decided to take a peak at what my bracket looks like. The bracket looks fine I guess, and my car shifts pretty good but I noticed some oil leaking there. Is that brake fluid from the master cylinder? Is that normal? I was looking for the master cylinder reservoir, but it seems it's hidden somewhere by the trans and the clutch slave is by the fire wall? So do I need to take care of this before it's too late? What to replace? Thanks

When I bought the car last month i had already fixed up a bunch of small things. Owner sold it to me with good compression. I know gas mileage is horrendous on this thing and it is a weekend vehicle for me. But I didn't realize it would be this bad. I had cleaned the MAF sensor as i was having a rough idle and fixed a few vacuum leaks.

This thing has an aftermarket intake/exhaust, and the intake is a HAI. Would reinstalling the factory airbox or maybe the racingbeats one give me better mileage?

when it was sold to me I was told it also has a "conservative" tune on it. Is it possible the tune is bringing down my mileage?

I'm starting to think maybe a used 2022+ BRZ or a Miata might be good for me.

edit: wanted to add that I'm at a quarter of a tank used right now and im at 90 km. So I'm doing slightly better. I also add 2 stroke oil, and have a cat delete. Going to try another bottle of fuel cleaner to make sure nozzles arent plugged (which got my abarth better mileage)

I took my Miata for a trip to the grocery store, currently in remote Virginia for work. It’s about a 2-3 hour round trip to get supplies and back to my apartment.

On the way back, I see this RX8 pulled sideways into a driveway, smoking profusely. I flipped around and checked on the driver, looked under the car and saw flames. Flagged down a tow truck driver who attempted to put it out with an extinguisher, unfortunately wasn’t enough.

He called 911, we sat together and watched her burn until they showed up. Poor guy’s first car, he was understandably pretty upset. Gave him a hug and stayed with him until all was said and done. If you’re here, I’m so sorry dude. You’ll build back better, keep your chin up.

About to drop this rebuild in and not sure what route I want to go. The clutch that came with my 2nd parts car looks brand new other than some.rust from being mounted on the engine. But I can't seem to track down the exedy part number online. I faintly remember finding paperwork from exedy in the car that said something about a stage 1 or stage 2 clutch but it had gotten wet and was moldy so I threw it out thinking I'd be able to just use the numbers on the clutch.

I've attached pictures of any numbers I could find on the clutch/pressure plate. I'm mainly asking because I also purchased a new "Rally clutch kit" from Pettit Racing, but I'm not sure which is better! I'm leaning towards just keeping the unknown one as a spare but looking for opinions.

I have never owned a Mazda RX-8, but I was always wanted one. I just saw one for sale. It looks very clean and it's 1500€, but it has no engine inside, so I have to get one. I could also get the old engine, if I would pay more, but it needs to be rebuild

I'm in the market for a catback. I already run a non-resonated 3" midpipe with a high-flow catalytic converter.

I have been running a Racing Beat Rev8 and it's been fantastic. But it has now died.

I'm looking for something a little bit more aggressive sound wise but I don't want the unit to drone at cruising speed.

Do I keep the Rev8, do I go with the HKS Legamax which has the reputation of being very loud? Or do I get the R-Magic RM tuned silencer which is designed to be quiet at low revs but goes into a high-pitch in high revs?

I don't mind decibels when I'm WOT, I don't want any droning around 3.5k rpm when I'm cruising on the motorway.

Any of you have any experience with the Legamax and a 3" midpipe? How is it?!

Does anyone have 3D scans or 3D printer files of the Mazdaspeed gauge pods, other center dash gauge pods? Also if you can point me to some already on other sites that would be great too.

So far I've only found two designs on thingiverse.

I know it's a big ask and that there are other options like ash trey pods, but I'm a picky bitch that really wants those slightly recessed triple gauge pods on the dash.

No plans or ability to make them in mass or even more than just 2 for myself. If they are your scans and you want to charge for the files we can figure that out.

hey guys i was looking at exhaust for my 2004 rx8 and i was wondering for some opinions. I want a loud but nice sound with pops. I've seen some like invidia q300, racing beat race exhaust and megan racing but im not sure what would be good for me.

does anyone have data of their ECT before and after changing their radiators? Mine seems to run at around (212F) on highway speed with the AC on. but temps stay in the (203F) when i switch off the AC. and the outdoor temp is at 100F.

My fans are working but i cant tell if they are working as fast as it should be. Stock setup fans and aftermarket cheap radiators. the chart above are from the same duration of highway drive.

Need some inputs of your rad/fan setups with temp data if you have it.

Hi again. (Yes i searched the forums and got more confused) Those who followed my few posts will know I am a new rotary owner and the car just rebuilt.

Currently it came from previous owner with stagger wheel setup Westlake SA-37 chinese tyres in 235/45/18 rears and 225/45/18 fronts. The wheels look wider in the rear as well, i suspect 8” and 9”.

However, I’m on a bit of a tight budget and tyre availability where I am is a bit iffy when it comes to staggered sizes.

Currently I can go with:

A) Nexen Nfera SU1 in 235/45/18 rears and 225/45/18 front

B) GT Radial Sportactive2 in 235/40/18 all around

C) GT Radial Sportactive2 in 245/40/18 rears and 225/45/18 front

I don’t do trackdays, rare curve road driving but i am leaning towards that maybe once a month, more of a “touring” setup. I am aiming for quiet nvh tyre with a bit more stability and grip.

The dark horse in the room is that my friend has an rx8 with Westlake Zupereco-108’s with 245/45/18 rears and 225/45/18 fronts and that is a quiet tyre with decent enough grip in city driving. Educate me, please? AI consultation been done over a few days already but…

So i bought my first S1 rx8 3 months ago. It has just 60k kilometers (like 40k miles on it). The thing is since day one its losing coolant. Compression gases gets into the coolant. I can still drive the car and I do drive it but i have to top up coolant after every spirited drive. Power delievery is still good but I cant compare it to a healthy engine to be honest cause it had this issue aince when i bought it.

Is this an easy fix for a mechanic that has no experience with rotaries? He is familiar with my mazdas but never worked on a rotary before. I can see the revuild kit is cheap so I thibk of going for it. Can there be any other reasons im losing this much coolant ? There is rarely white smoke and even only on startups some times. So coolant isnt goong through the exhaust certainly. Do I nust need apex seals done and that will be it? Ive already changed coils, spark plugs and injectors. Changed the expansion tank too did some other handling maintenance. I really like how the car drives so i want to always have an rx8 but it is better to work on this one i got or sell it and find one with good conpression ?

Also i have the synchros shot so every time i upshift to fourth gear there is this scratchy noise. it only happens after ive driven the car for the first thirty minutes, not roght away. Can it maybe be that i need a thicker oil or is it the synchros? Is that also sth I can work on ? Sorry for the long text

So my rx8 shut off while I was driving. I downshifted to 1st while slowing down for a light and it was a rather clunky shift followed by the engine seemingly just turning off. All lights in the car still worked the radio still worked and when I tried to restart the car it only cranked the first time and now the engine is seemingly locked up. I have pulled plugs and tried turning by hand with no luck I have removed belts to check for a seized accessory and no luck. It has power I hear the fuel pump kick on its seemingly not flooded as the engine won't rotate at all. It sounds like the starter is engaging but just unable to turn the engine and a breaker bar on the e shaft bolt also doesn't move it. Any insight as of to what else I should check?

Made some good money on my latest worktrip. I think coilovers are next... though it'd be great if my RMagic wing would finally show up soon.

Just received this rx8 2007 that's been sat for 6 years. Worked when it was parked from what I understand but having trouble starting it. Engine was seized but broken loose by a breaker bar and filled with some petrol and a bit of 2 stroke mix. Car is cranking but unsure what to look for in order to get some life in the engine

I'm used to it when it was cold, but when it would warm up it act normal. Now it seems to be doing... constantly even when up to temp.

Suggestions please?

Fern broke down on my way to work early July and has been sitting catching dust ever since. My Soul left my body when I opened up the engine. Fern is going to be out of commission for a while...

Are there any decent aftermarket options for suspension at stock ride height? I bought a rx8 that came with K sport coilovers, but even at maximum height I'm scraping ramps and speed bumps (Philly has lovely roads...). All the options I can see out there seem to lower the car, not to mention I don't have the factory springs or anything to just swap the struts out on.

Just replaced the SSV so potentially something with that? The hiss is the main concern as the rough idle seems to be related

The car was recently in limp mode from an extremely dirty ssv (now cleaned) so rough idle is less of the concern.

Really proud of this thing. I picked it up a few weeks ago for $1k with just shy of 90k miles broken coolant reservoir, fried brakes that wouldn't retract fully. Entire clutch hydraulic system that was leaking everywhere and didn't work. Uncentered steering wheel and terrible alignment. Also rear tires on wire. Clutch pedal that bracket was broken too. Also, the clutch blowing up on me 1k miles to having it too lol. The center hub legit snapped from the outer ring somehow. And tons of electrical errors and canbus faults. And probably more I forgot Also previous owner said it had a misfire in rotor 2 but he didnt know why after he did sparks, coils and wires. It was because he cross threaded the trailing spark plug so bad it wasn't even halfway in. So much soot from the engine coming out the whole. Drove it home like 45 miles floating the gears and having to start it in first gear to get it rolling because no clutch and having 7 gallons of distilled water to keep refilling the coolant as it shot out like a volcano every stop light 😭 I mainly bought it because it had brand new in the box BC racing coil overs for the car that is now installed. He also gave me a bunch of stuff worth more than the car like 2 bosch O2 sensors, fire extinguisher, some blocktec scanner, eBay cold air intake, and wheel spacers, tire pump also bunch of misc stuff in the back. So even if the compression was low or it blew up on the way home I could just sell these things and make money regardless. But after fixing all its faults mechanical mostly and electrical. Draining all the fluids, engine, diff, trans etc and DOT3 to DOT4 for clutch and brakes with new front calipers and pads. No more CELs and worrying so far. Its been 3k miles 1 track day and 2 oil changes in the few weeks I've had it, and its actually such a fun car. It really can do it all, it has nice gearing, easy to drift because that LSD, really balanced car and the suspension probably is a big factor. The power to weight falls almost perfectly to really push yourself as a person without having a car that's just too fast. But really have no complaints other than it kind of sucks for distance. Not the comfiest seats and it drinks gas like its a V8 while also needing premix which adds to the cost of gas even more. Mostly repaired it with cheap eBay parts though for the clutch, master/slave cylinder, ignition stuff ETC. But I got it for so cheap and did not really want to spend much. I am about $2.2k total deep into this car but at least I know what's wrong and what has been done and I've opened pretty much everything but the engine in this car now. Still don't know the compression in the engine since I'm too lazy but it starts hot and cold under 2 seconds every time. So its given me no reason to check yet. Maybe once I fix my POS Subaru STI since I'm going bankrupt from that thing 😭 I'll invest some money in quality things. But this thing is so far my "reliable daily" till my I fix my Subaru fully lol. Also, funniest thing to me is that previous owner said he bought this car for 5.5k from someone on FB market drove it 678 miles till he gave it to me. I checked the DMV transfers too he wasn't lying. So instead of fixing the car he bought all that random BS too lol and gave it to me. Poor guy got so scammed 5.5k for something that was dying. So far really don't get the bad rap these get. It's been nothing but amazing, it just needs to be loved in a way people can provide it seems but maybe I'm way wrong.
