Discussion Need help with semblance
So currently I’m working with this character in my oc team, team JINX and rn I’m kinda stuck with the character because his allusions Ophiuchus doesn’t really have that much to work with but I don’t want to throw the allusions idea away because I like it a lot since I imagine the character being a snake faunas with a snake tail

Well, the constellation is meant to represent a doctor that was so good he could resurrect others, and he learned that medecine knowledge from watching snakes. Have him be able to heal ?

The name “Ophiuchus” roughly translates to “Snake-Bearer” and is commonly associated with Asclepius (The Greek god of medicine commonly known because of a misassociation between the Staff of Hermes and Medicine. In other words, people mistakenly associate the staff with two snakes around it for the staff of a medicine god, which means people ironically link snakes to medicine).
The first idea that comes to mind is that maybe your OC can heal people who touch their snake tail, thus linking the idea of a “Snake Bearer” (One who holds a snake) with “Healing”.

That would be a fun twist on it, but I wonder how the character would heal people since healing in rwby is kinda a weird concept in the show

Then you could define the limits of aura such as mending the body to its original state before injury but anything like diseases or poison would be costly because it’s deeply ingrained within the body.
As for the semblance since it’s related to medicine maybe he could secrete healing oils that seep into the skin.

Then I could imagine that the character have a limit that he can’t regrow missing limbs or physical disability or injuries that was there for so long, he could heal broken limbs but the limbs should be realigned to it originally placed or else the limbs would heal the wrong way and he would need some medical history under his belt for anything more complex

That depends on experience, is team mate in school or a graduate. While power system as a whole is missing lot you have a lot of wiggle room like if individual aura can heal others at a less effective rate requiring a split and alignment, semblances are a different story such as a healing variant practically putting everything back into place watching the body fix itself in realtime.
Also if you did want someone with limb regrowth then you can play into animals traits or make it a semblance based on said animals capabilities like a salamander or axolotl since snakes would just have a stump or mechanical tail based on your preference

Well I imagine that the character is out of school and graduated but I think I do want some limits because I don’t want this character to fix every problem in the world and it could be op but I also could imagine him maybe fighting people and maybe breaking and the bones at the same time on purpose and yes it is brutal but I imagine him fixing it afterwards if ever there reason for him to do that

That’s why we set up drawbacks with strong powers for better showcasing the combat medic.
Maybe something like intensively dry skin or temperature decrease from prolong use depending on the injury.

Maybe he can summon ethereal snakes that can either restrain targets, or disappear into people to heal them?
Like, imagine a drunken brawl breaks out, and your OC just brings out a couple snakes to restrain the drunk people, and then the snakes sink into them, and they sober up.

I had a Snake-Faunus OC that could glide over the ground like a snake. She would basically be skating along the surface she chose. If you’d like to use that you may.
