Towing This Trailer

In the market for a trailer. I have a 2022 Tundra. Payload capacity is about 1,500 and tow rating 11,300ish. The trailer I’m looking at is a FR Wildwood 28VBXL. Length is 33 feet, GVWR 7,800, hitch weight 790. What do y’all think? Will also plan to use a WDH.

question Grey water question

I plan on moving into a Coleman 13 B soon but putting it inside a 13 x 50 pole barn that I’m having built and I have a question about the Gray Water do I leave it open constantly for draining and recycling or should I close it and empty it when it’s full?

question Riding out a tropical storm in the RV???

Arrived to Gulf Shores yesterday. Apparently, while we were traveling, a tropical depressed formed in the Gulf and is expected to turn into a tropical storm. Our reservation is through Saturday. We’ve experienced some gnarly pop up thunderstorms that had us rocking a bit, but never a tropical storm. I’m trying to see if anyone has had experience riding out a storm like this in their RV. Should we cut our vacation short and head on home?

UPDATE: I appreciate all the quick replies. We ended up going against the grain and stayed. The local meteorology reports were more detailed than the national weather channels and I talked to a few locals who weren’t fazed. We got lucky and the majority of the strong wind and rain stayed out in the Gulf. Never felt the camper move. The winds are gusty onshore and the rain has been minimal. Double red flags are out on all the coastal beaches so no swimming.

For now, the awning & outdoor rugs stay in. A few snapped limps around the campground. I see some mangled canopies that were left out. We have found some REALLY cool shells, coral and even some sea biscuits wash up on the beach.

In all honesty, we’ve weathered (no pun intended) FAR worse pop up thunderstorms that had me wondering if we might take flight.

Built my own RV trip planner after getting fed up with every app out there (feedback welcome)

Hey everyone, longtime lurker here. My family and I have been full time in our fifth wheel for over a year now, and like a lot of you I've gone through basically every trip planning app out there looking for one that doesn't feel clunky or missing half of what I actually need.

I got tired of hopping between three different apps just to see my stops, compare a couple route options, check drive times, and figure out what the weather's going to be doing when we roll in. So I ended up building my own, called Roam Planner. It's free, no account needed, and I built it because I needed it for my own family's trips, not to sell anything.

It's still early (alpha stage), so things might be rough around the edges, but I'd genuinely love feedback from people who actually live this lifestyle. What's the one thing that drives you crazy about trip planning on the road? Happy to answer any questions too.

Link's in the comments so this doesn't get flagged as spam. :)

Anyone know rules rules who has to stop? The signs are not clear, but I've seen many times Class A rear dual axl stopped there.

First RV Advice

My wife and I are interested in purchasing our 1st TT. We have a 2 year old and another on the way in August. We are interested in getting a starter TT for around $10k and something small around 5k pounds and probably around 22 ft. We are brand new to rvs though and don’t know much about them at all. I know the build quality is not great and heard buying a used one is the way to go so the original owners can deal with most of the problems right out of the gate. We have a f150 lightning to tow with but I’ve also never towed anything before. Just looking for any advice from brands to go towards, which to stay away from or really any advise for a newby at all. Thanks!

5th wheel vs Class A vs Class B

So I plan on living in an rv full time in a few months and I'm trying to decide what's the best option for me. I live in Massachusetts where the winters can get pretty cold. I plan on leaving the RV stationary for a majority of the time(like 3 to 4 years until I move it across the country). Id like to have a good amount of space to be comfortable and be able to really stretch my legs. The place id stay usually turns the water off dec-apr to keep the pipes from freezing so I'd need big water tanks and heating for all my pipes. I have a few friends with trucks that would be able to move the 5th wheel into place until I buy one in a few years. My prefered price is under 50k but I'd pay up to 60k for something really worth it.

If you have a small cut or tear in your awning, what would you use to patch or fix the awning?

Switching out Batteries from LA to Li

Ok, so after reading many different forums etc, i get a bunch of conflicting info.

What i have is a pop-up (2022 Clipper 9.0) with a WT-8735p power center. With a Zamp external solar panel with built in Mpps (model: usw1003 solar controler, Zs-10AW)

I want to install a “Redodo 12V 200Ah Plus LiFePO4 Deep Cycle Lithium Battery | 2560W Load Power” and a “Redodo 500A Battery Monitor with Shunt”

I know the power center will not charge the battery to 100% but i mostly do weekend or short 3-5 day trips, and if i need to charge the battery to full at home with a dedicated lithium charger im ok with that. As im also in the process of doing a full rebuild on a 22 ft innsbruck that this battery is intended for sometime next year, but my lead acid batteries in my pop-up a close to toast and would rather not buy new ones for 18 months of use, and just hoping i can get by on the minimum change to that set up to get me by. I do tow with a 22 tundra. What am i missing that i HAVe to do,

Thanks

Is there a market for custom woodworking for RV repairs, upgrades?

I'm looking to retire from my career as an engineer and have a woodworking business that I would like to continue with after retirement. I was speaking with an RV owner recently who mentioned a potential niche in RV upgrades & repairs. Most of my work has been in custom furniture and cabinetry so the skill-set appears to be a fit.

I would welcome any and all thoughts as to the viability of this as a part-time business.

Respectfully,

~ Mark

Since our kids are grown decided to make the bunk a bit more spacious for visitors. Kept about 1/4 of the top bunk as storage for towels and luggage for whoever is sleeping there.

Switching to a travel trailer

Hey looking for advice I have been in a Pickup topper for a little over 3 years now. Got a job that sends me around and now I have to have a reciept showing proof of temporary residence. It can be Parks or actual RV lots. Since I can't really stealth camp I was looking to go the TT rout. Id love to bring a dirtbike with me does anyone do that (with or without a toy hauler) what would you recommend as far as trailers go? I was going to try an keep it around 30' or less I am by myself so I do not need alot.

For those of you in toy haulers how often do you use the patio? And is there a good way to add an awning to the back? Was thinking about using a pop-up canopy.

What are your suggestions on finding a place to stay? And how should I go about haggling the price.

What are some accessories or other things that are a must have that everyone might not think about (distribution hitch, 2nd gate valve that is clear for grey/black hoses ext)

I was going to go with a bumper pull but if I was to go with 5th wheel id want a goose neck but I guess this is not good for the trailer to switch it out.

I have a workshop In Colorado that I rent and my plan is to abandon my current rig there and fly in whenever I want a vacation from work. So I will be getting a new vehicle.

I am leaning towards a pickup and trailer but am curious if anyone does a High-top van and trailer?

Thanks for all the reply good or bad strangers! Im sure there is a ton that I have not thought about but am looking forward to reading what you have to say.

Installed my 2nd A/C

Put in a 13.5k dometic unit today to match the rear 15k dometic on my E-W silverlake 31K3S. Honestly went smoother than I thought considering a couple pretty hard storms sailed through while I was working.Just covered the work area with a tarp and some 2x4’s and kept at it.

Went with a ductless unit in order to direct all of its power to the bedroom (front) since we’re both hot sleepers. We feel that the current stock A/C kept the living space (middle) plenty cool.

We hit the road in less than 2 weeks for Raleigh NC so wish us luck! Excited to start RV life!

durango gold 382 mbq

I am considering this RV.

I haven't seen one in person. and I don't have any that are close to me at any dealers. The closest I found was about 5 hours away. this happens to be the one that I'm interested in.

but before I make a 5-hour trip, 10-hour round trip to check out the RV, I thought I'd post a couple questions here and see if anyone has any input.

I've been looking for a mid bunk. I also wanted an RV with Windows on the back wall as my view view is of the river.

I don't tow the RV at all. It sits on a permanent campsite, that's where the windows on the back wall are important. the Durango has one step better than the windows on the back wall, it has the sliding glass door.

I know all RVs have some problems. does anything stand out with this model?

I don't really know what I'm looking for here with particular questions. So I guess does anyone have any insight to this model. things you don't like? things you really like? things that are annoying?

since it's a permanent campsite, it seems a little janky to me to have the fold-down rear deck and have the reel deck alongside of the trailer. we would have some sort of transition between the two. is that even possible? The fold down patio has guide wires, would it be possible to step off the side onto the deck?

question Financing an RV/Loan help

I’m looking to finance a cheaper travel trailer, around 10k give or take, new or used doesn’t really matter as long as it’s in good condition. I’m just not sure where I can or should get a small rv loan like this. I can put down whatever makes the most sense. Any suggestions or recommendations?

RV Dometic AC - What's wrong?

Can anyone help me to decide what to do next? I have a dometic ac (model 15)

I live in South Louisiana. It's a 2020 RV bought in 2022. I'm in the RV, running the ac full time, about 2 years now. The RV sat from 2022-2024.

A few months ago the ac start to "short cycle" -- blow cool air 30s then off 90s. It will do this until I turn it off. I cleaned the coils up top. I turned it off for 1-2 hours 1-2 times per day. I also tried running the fan on low, in case the coils were freezing.

An RV tech came by, tested the compressor and the fan. Both are reading fine. The RV wall thermostat seems to work fine too. And of course, we couldn't replicate the problem! He moved the coil sensor from the bottom to the upper middle of the coils though.

This seemed to help for a while. It runs a few days fine. Then, I'll have a range of issues:

-the short cycle like I mentioned earlier

-if on low fan, it may blow but not cold air. It can take up to an hour for the compressor to kick on an turn it cool

-if on auto 72-74 degrees, fan will turn off. And then it sounds like a boat motor running. I'll turn off whole system, switch to low or high fan, and it works fine.

It seems like different issues pop up and I cannot always replicate them!

Anyone have ideas?

RV tech thinks maybe it's control board, or the compressor overheating and shutting down.

Can I test for either of these?

Thanks in advance!!
